Virgin Media Retention thread

Hi,
I currently am on the smallest bundle with Virgin, which is: Phone M + line rental, TV M+ and BB L. I pay £33.90 a month for this.
My contract for the TV ends in November, the rest is already out of contract (I added a couple fo channels a while back which lengthened the Tv contract.) so I could give my 60 days notice in September.
I was wondering if I could try to negociate anything cheaper then? Has anyone been offered the same thing for less? I am not bothered about V+ boxes and the likes, I'm happy with my current package - but obviously if I could get it cheaper it would be a bonus!
Bump! Anyone?
There's some movement in that I would expect, as you are a 3 bundle customer, they might be able to give you the half price line rental for a £6 ish a month saving - you could also get a VHD box, no activation and you would get any free HD that way if its interesting to you.I was going to quote Orange broadband and phone at the moment.....
12 months contract, £12.75 line rental with unlimited calls anytime, £10 broadband 20mb unlimited data usage as a new customer..... = £253, then quico cashback is £120 so the yearly total is £133...... Much better than the £23 I was getting without cashback deal (10mb unlimited broadband, and line rental with free evening and weekend calls) for being a current customer for a few years.
Good luck getting 20mb, check Sam knows website for potential service speed - its gotta be said, when correctly setup Virgin Broadband cannot be beaten for speed - and they know this. (So does BT and all the LLU companies...)Just wanted to post what I received in the end, and hope this helps someone. I did the chasing, and the guy was helpful, if a little taught (tort? sp?) - but probably gets people stressing at him most of the time. I did use the 0191 423 6473 number to get through, both times I left a message I got called back the same day.
Anyway, this saves me exactly £10 a month on what I was paying for the same services, but with free 0845/0870 and Caller Display.
TV M
PHONE XL
BBI L
TALK 0845\0870
CALLER DISPLAY
FOR £28.90 12 Month Price on a 12 Month Contract
I feel I could have squeezed more, but i'm happy with Virgin, and also with the price. And most importantly my maxim 'anyone but BT for anything at any cost anytime ever' continues!
Good work, as long as you're happy then thats what matters...0 -
Finally got a call back from the outbound team but because they've taken nearly a month to get back to me the prices they quoted me have now gone up! The guy said they no longer have the personal credit they were allowed to apply so I'm looking at the following
M Phone
XL TV & Tivo
L Broadband
for £42.90 plus £50 activation for Tivo. This is more expensive and lower spec than the deal I was originally offered (which was £40.99 for the same but with XL Broadband - they now want £47.99 a month for that). It's not my fault I couldn't get hold of them (I rang about 20 times and left my name as instructed but no-one returned my call) but they tell me that's the best they can do and my disconnection date is Saturday so not sure what to do now - really tempted to just go to Sky even if it costs more as this has been a thoroughly frustrating experience.0 -
I have TV (V+HD), Phone & BB (10MB) with VM. With SkySports+SSHD. This is costing about £74 a month.
Contacted Sky and a similar package costs £75, and can't get them to budge on that.
Any help in getting VM to lower the costs?
Thank you.0 -

they cant match the price, but they can offer you a goodwill to offset the cost of the tivo install etc etc - basically for messing you around a bit - at the same time I signed up for TiVo and cancelled prior to install, too many issues with it right now and the £50 activation really put me off...I have TV (V+HD), Phone & BB (10MB) with VM. Sky won't budge, but you do get all sky sports in HD, and going through Topcashback will offset some of the sky cost.
I would think you would be better off bullking out your existing deal rather than reducing the price - although is saying that there is a SS price reduction coming soon, couple of quid I think. It seems VM are getting tigher with discounts again - Im hopeful of a gooddeal nearer to christmas time...0 -

"17Mbps or greater via ADSL2+"
1km from exchange in a straight line....
sounds faster than my current 10Mbs from virgin media.... Checked this out before I posted the info up here.....0 -
Longish standing VM customer and I've had reasonable success in the past but haven't gone back for a while, so am currently on the following:
- TV XL with v+ HD Box
- Phone XL (with Voice mail Plus)
- Broadband L
Not desperate to get anything extra as such but looking at my deal compared to a new customer, I could get XL BB for the same average monthly costs based on free installation/account credit - never mind any cashback deals!!! (Have correctly factored in the deal lasting 18 months and the discount being 6 months - so 100% 'like for like')
Any suggestions as to what I should be aiming for,
whether it be the same or similar package - then at what rate?
or
if paying roughly the same what services should I be expecting?
Thanks guys :beer:0 -
I am helping a friend try and minimise cost of her phone and BB. Although she does not have any internet to her VM account I assume she could set it up but before she does that does anyone know if you can check your VM BB usage. Armed with this information it should make it easier to sort out what download allowance she needs. She has recently ditched SKY and now has BB with VM and landline with BT and unlimited calls total cost around £40 per month. It should be possible to reduce that a fair bit.0

Current package 10 mb broadband, m+ tv and free weekend calls with line rental and v+ box £48pm,
4 weeks left on contract rang rententions team and she offered me £3 yes £3 per month of and tried get me to get higher phone package (no deal just tried blag me to do it)
needless to say i rang back next day said wasnt happy with that I worked out sky offer similiar package and pretended will throw hd in For free so he said he will increase broadband to 20mb free super hub and give me xl tv package for £45pm i said i wanted tivo but he said as new i cant and cant reduce activation fee from £49 or the £3pm but engineer will put v+ hd box in bedroom and tivo in main room for no cost effectively free multi room which sky would charge for.
It sounds like a great deal to me but i dont know if this is standard or room for more negotiation? He said as a new customer this setup would cost £12-13 more0 -
Currently getting the following:
XL TV (inc V+HD)
L BB
M Phone
paying nearly £52 a month for this but have just got off the phone to retentions and been offered
XL TV
L BB
M Phone
TIVO (+£50 activation)
for £43 per month.
Does anyone think I can do better or shall I just accept this one??0 -
I was paying £21 per month for L Broadband only (no phone line) and my contract ended in August.
I called them up as I was moving and said I couldn't justify the £21 for broadband alone, that I'd like to cancel it. The customer services representative said can I get someone to call you back and see if we can come to some agreement. Two minutes later the phone rang.
Offered £11 p/m for L Broadband, result. The guy went on to tell me of another deal:
L Broadband
XL TV with Tivo (free install)
Second HD box
Phone with evening and weekend calls
£36.40 including line rental for 12 months.
Tried to get it without phoneline but it worked out more expensive so needless to say I took the £36.40 deal.
Now I await the installation tomorrow and the contract and bill!0
