How did you get on with them?

I keep trying the Outbound Customer Relations Team number I was given but can never get through to anyone (although at least today I get through to an answering machine rather than it just answering then going dead)

    Hi,

I currently am on the smallest bundle with Virgin, which is: Phone M + line rental, TV M+ and BB L. I pay £33.90 a month for this.

My contract for the TV ends in November, the rest is already out of contract (I added a couple fo channels a while back which lengthened the Tv contract.) so I could give my 60 days notice in September.

I was wondering if I could try to negociate anything cheaper then? Has anyone been offered the same thing for less? I am not bothered about V+ boxes and the likes, I'm happy with my current package - but obviously if I could get it cheaper it would be a bonus!

The only way that would work is if they are going to credit your account elsewhere - I doubt the £49.99 would be credited - that sounds very suspect for me (and pointless too as the £49.99 is the same for ht eV+ as it is the TiVo so almost worth going for that instead.

I'd be cautious of that £4.50 difference too - the contract should reflect the accurate price of the deal, expecially as VM retensions say they cannot apply the old manually applied monthly discounts...
Dude, do you get paid by VM to crap on peoples deals on here or something? I've seen you do this on more than one occassion and its not helpful.

You might not be a good haggler, but can you try and stop poo-poo'ing on deals that have actually been confirmed via email?

    Cheers man.

Says the man who said he got free activation on two boxes and after I pointed out it was unlikely you phoned them again to find out you were wrong?

And why do people always think people who are critical for the sake of accuracy work for the company concerned.

The problem with VM and other networks is that they have an incredibly complex system for deals and contracts. You will note that I have been critical of the replies for the sake of ensuring people are not fed the wrong infomation, you know like the wrong boxe type or something ;)

I'm a pretty good haggler thanks, I'm just being a voluntary voice of customer reason to the complex deals that VM offer - again, with email confirmations, they aren't worth the 'paper' they are written on - the contract is the only binding agreement where all features, costs and contract lengths are legally itemised and confirmed.

    Regards,

    The 'Dude'

p.s. now go pee on someone else's rug.
    p.p.s what a film :D

    Hi,

We've got broadband L and phone L and are paying £40 per month for the pleasure. I've noticed that equivalent (well, 8meg unreliable)ADSL packages are now going for less than £20 per month and even £24 with unlimited phone.

Out of contract with Virgin. Don't want Virgin TV as I can't be messing with new cables and have Sky+ and like it very much.

Any thoughts on whether they will offer me anything if I am up front with them about thinking about leaving?

    Thanks.

I've cut everything else out for a second - and the main reason being is your first requirement.

Before you do anything else go here http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker

And check what you can get speedwise - as PlusNet, Post Office, BT and Sky will all have the same maximum speed - I suspect you will be looking at 3-5mb at best - and it is just that, the best you will be expected to get.

I agree with you about the TV, getting a freeview box is the cheapest way if TV is not important, so get one and then do a quote for Virgin on phone and broadband and see what that comes out at

Thanks everyone who replied, and apologies for delay in responding and thanking as been away. But Virgin Media Retention Team did call me and chatted, offering what I have for £28 a month which seems a good starting point (by which I mean, if push came to shove, i'd accept it).

    So i'd get:

    TV M (45 Channels)
Phone XL ( Unlimited calls to UK landlines all day, every day)
    Broadband L (10 mb)
    Virgin phone line
    Phone extras
    Voicemail Plus
    TV extras
V HD Box - HD ready

For £28 a month (not a short term offer and now includes 0845 & 0870's). Saves £10 a month on what i'm paying.

So, do I now try and try and trump that. An improvement somewhere? Maybe an extra box?? I've gone through this thread and it is apparent that people have got the same package for less than £20? And i'm happy to continue with the cancellation. But am I being greedy / unrealistic?

They are due to call back today...

A really nice, helpful man sorted me a fair deal out today.
Not the cheapest, but I know I have good service in my rural area. He also offered e new, better router free, and gave me a tip about increasing internet speed.
Very pleased with Virgin customer services.
if i had known then what i know now
  • Hi All,

I currently have the following package with VM:

    TV XL
    PHONE XL
    BROADBAND XL (20MB)
    V+ HD BOX
    ADDITIONAL STANDARD BOX

    £61.40 p/m

I have given VM my months cancellation notice (as they gave me a pathetic offer) and we are due to disconnect on 24th Sept. I had a call from the retention team earlier this week and they offered me:

    TV XL
PHONE M (I don't use it so knocked it down)
    BROADBAND XL (20MB)
V+ HD BOX (got rid of additional box as I don't use it enough)
    Sky Sports Package

    £67.40

Apparently they have had all their discounts taken off them so this is the best they can offer, I'm not convinced. Is this a reasonable deal? I'm going to hang on and try for a better offer...

    You have done well.

    I have telephone + 24/7 calling plan &
    10Mb internet.
The best they could do was £23.40, but managed to get caller display thrown in. Their calling plans now include 0870 but NOT 0845.

Well I am due to be disconnected this Friday ( and I have not sorted out another supplier ) was hoping VM would phone me back but it was clear they had no intention of doing so. I obviously dont want to be left without any services so I phoned saying there had been a problem with my new suppler so I would have to put my cancellation on hold, after chatting to nice man for a while he warned me my new supplier I had said I was going too may not have given me the whole picture with regards to services from them ( only 2 megabites , paying for box repairs ...ect,ect ) and he looked at what I was getting from VM but he insists I am on the best package price VM can offer

    phone line rental £13.90
    talk unlimited £8.00
    tv XL £26.00
    broadband L £26.00
    loyalty pack BB,phone TV3D sky -£22.70

    total paying each month £51.20

All he would offer was taking us off talk unlimited ( we hardly use phone ) and stopping paper bills which will take us down to £40 a month.

So unfortunately for me it appears no offers will be forthcoming and they are certainly not bothered about losing me as a customer ....

But well done to all who have managed to get new deals and offers
