  • Just off phone with retentions and was offered Sky Sports package on top of existing package which was

    L Broadband
    L Phone
    XL TV
    V Plus HD box
    Standard set top box
    Phone rental

    Currently paying £56 per month

Offered Sky Sports package for a total of £73 pm.

Unsure if that's a good offer or not or whether I should try again

Well, my mum has been on VIP20 for about 3 years and called to see what they could offer as she has been offered Sky for half price for 12 months (TV only) and they offered nothing, not even to match the new customer VIP50 offer. Looks like she will be getting Sky now!

When you say match were you expecting the 6 months reduced offer they have for new customers?

The VIP 50 is quite a bit more money than the old school VIP - and the activations on TiVO are a pain - I would expect the offers prior to the key christmas period to be quite tasty this year - there's no doubt Sky are going to have some pretty impressive bundles

I would go again - except this time go for a VHD box in place of the standard (should be free..ish) as you will be entering a new contract anyway - as of October 1st the £7 per box fee for HD channels changes to £7 per address, so this change in box would give you SS1 & 2 in HD on both boxes.

It looks like they might have applied a half price line rental to get you that price, if thats the case, double check it will last for at least 12 months...

I've decided to stay with Virgin. After numerous phonecalls and going through the charade of cancelling they have offered me the following:

    Tv xl
    Bb l
    Phone m
    TiVo
Moving v+hd box to another room

For £43 a month. I was previously paying 48 without TiVo and multiroom so I've decided to go with it as it seems there is no further room for manoeuvre. Virgin broadband is far seperior in my area aswell so I'm kinda happy!

pretty good deal for you all told - would assume the £49.99 activation for the TiVO still stands though?

It would have been nice for them to offer it, they even said if we wait till the service has been disconnected for 30 days we can sign up as a new customer, including quidco. Just seems stupid to me that they dont mind missing out on that month plus the added cost of collecting the old eqipment and then sending another bunch of new equipment just week later! The cost at the minute is £100.95 (including paper bill @ £1.50)

They are unfortunately bound by the systems they have. They can only give you the 6 months half price TV if you take on an additional service - as you are already a VIP they can't do this - unless you used a different name then you would have the cashback declined - the 30 days thing doesnt quite sound right either.

To be honest they should be able to switch you to the VIP 50 tariff if you ask - but your price would go up by a few quid - around £104 - maybe if you could get the half price line rental on the phone you might get this reduced to sub £100 - no harm in asking...

    Hi All
Having gone through retentions and receiving and accepting a new offer of,
    XL TV
    V+HD (no activation)
    BB L (20 MB)
    PHONE inc line rental
    talk evening & weekends

£44.50 (I have this in writing via email)

The contract has arrived and shows a monthly price of £48.90
+ in the box for other items /charges, it indicates that there is a activation charge of £49.95.
After a call to cs they inform me that this is in fact the only way they can show it on the contract and that it will be discounted at the bill to compensate.
My question is if anyone else has had a contract like this or is it another fast one from VM.

This thread is quite old, just wondering if the advice here still stacks up? Are people still getting better value through the retention route?

The thread started a while ago, but the last 5 pages show the offers people have got in the last four weeks - its still working, although the best deals seem to require you to actually go through with the cancellation request...

Think you missed a bit off, if you can fill in the missing info and the exact question you had we'll see what we can do :)
