speedyrazor wrote: »Hi, I have been with Virgin for more than 12 months now so it's the end of my contract. I currently have:
BB - 50MB (XXL)
Phone (which I dont really use)
I am currently paying £41.90.
I just rang retentions and they only offered what was readily available on the website, £38.90, or £35 without phone, in fact its worse than on the website as a new customer gets a better deal. The woman on the phone said thats the best they could offer. I said I would be contacting BT.
Any advice to get a better deal please?
Cheers.
OK, so I cancelled and waited for that golden phone call.
After about 5 days retentions called and I got the same as above, XXL BB, standard home phone, was costing me £41 a month, now paying £35 with no lock-in contract, this will last for 12 months. Fairly happy.0 -
Unfortunately nothing is forever and the price you are offered may rise during your contract (I am paying £2 more than we agreed less than a year ago due to line rental rises). Are they tying you to a new 12 or 18 month contract?
Assume they have offered you XL tv or is it a lower package?
Seems a good deal.

Not sure if they have tied me in - I would assume so for another 12 months but guess I will have to wait for the confirmation letter.0 -
Are you sure about the 0845 numbers? It's not listed in their Talk Unlimited plan, where under calling costs it says...
That's my biggest gripe with VM. They stitch you up on 0845 numbers, charging an 11.24p connection cost plus 10.22p per minute, rounded up to the next full minute of course. 0870 numbers have only recently been included in the plan.
I did ask this question - basically at the moment I pay £9 per months for the 200 additional home phone mis which includes 0870 and 0845 which is fine but he said he can I can have talk unlimited plus an extra add on which covers the 0870 numbers??? Will see if I can find it on the site.0 -
I don’t like to rock the boat. If it aint broke why fix it. But I would like to check how I’m doing. I don’t watch TV and I only use my mobile phone (pay as you go) so no home phone. I was with NTL now Virgin for my internet for which I pay £21 a month. I have not had any problems with them in all this time - touch wood. Is £21 reasonable for internet only?0

0870s are included anyway since the beginning of August when the line rental went up for "free" - there is an additional add on (no information on site, seems to only be available through retentions) for £2 per month to include 0845 numbers (was 0870s as well, but as this is now included, they seem to be getting the same amount for providing less!).

Colin retentions have just called me back and they wouldn't budge on anything less than £17.00.unless you want 2mb Broadband which we can do for £15.90!"
I was told same thing during early March 2011 having previously had 12.00ish a month deals for a few years, was told that based on my usage for previous 3 months those rates were great value for me, didnt get a retentions call so I ditched V.M. :cool:0 -

Be careful and check any new agreement.
I have been with VM (and telewest) for some time. Phoned to get better deal, no deal offered. Decided to terminate, and contacted by retention team few days later. Agreed £23.50 for 3 months and then £28.50 thereafter for 30MB broadband. No tie in.
Happy with deal, new router and fast BB. Then the agreement arrived with prices of pure fiction. Phoned customer services who without discussion just terminated everything!
Complained in writing; got a phone call from complaints dept saying it was all for my own good!
Result: Just sign a new deal with Sky BB.
Check the contract, because it may not be what you agreed. I almost missed it as it was hidden in a alot of bumpf that they send.0 -
