hi all.with VIRMIN. paying £26 a month for BB L only. i use Ebill & DD. do you think im getting ripped of. do not want TV OR PHONE just BB.do you think i should change provider or try to haggle for a better deal which im not good at. thanx.

Yes your being well ripped off (if ur referring to 10mb!!) Cancel it and they will call you back sometime in the next 8 days and offer you it for £17.00.

Its only £21.00 when you start a new contract with them so god know's why you have been paying £26.00?

I have been paying £21-a-month for 10MB-per-second broadband with Virgin, although I have had discounts in the past. I phoned today choosing the options that I was looking to leave and said it was due to price, and they offered me a permanent £4-a-month discount if I agreed to a new 12-month contract. So, I am now paying £17-a-month.

That £17.00 will run for 2 years mate but your only contracted for 12 months! :money:

I'm currently paying £20.50 for 10mb, I rang Virgin up today to cancel and they offered it for £17.50 but with a new contract... so I told them to cancel, are they likely to ring me back with a better offer?

I just ordered home phone and 10mb with Virgin and there monthly price was £25.15 over an 18 month contract, I then called O2 who offered phone/broadband for £17.36 over a 12 month contract.

Finally called Virgin back to cancel due to a better deal with O2 and managed to get phone/10mb on a 12month contract for an average cost of £11.83 after credit and discounts :)

They will call you back and offer you it for £17.00 for a 12 month contract but the £17.00 wil run for 2 years, sounds like they have been trying it on when they offered £17.50 as every penny more is more commision for the operator! if you manage to get it for any less than £17.00 then it would be great to hear about it.
  • Evening all,

    Penny for your thoughts?

I'm a customer of VM for many years and would like to tweak my package a bit but, naturally, would like to only pay what I need. I've not spoken with retentions for about 4 years so I thought my package wouldn't be competitive any more but it appears to be cheaper than what new customer would get?!

I'm on BB L, TV XL, Phone L. I also get caller display and my bill mentions that I have a "Loyalty Pack B B, Phone, TV 3 D Sky", whatever that is?

For this, I pay £35.35 when, to a new customer, it would be £42 (plus caller display which I think is £1). So, do I have much bargaining power?

I would like to switch to BB XXL, keep TV XL, drop the phone to M and keep caller display. As a new customer, this would be £49.50 (again, plus £1 for caller display).

I guess the difficulty is that I can't really threaten to leave on the basis of cost if I'm actually looking to upgrade my package.

So, any tips on how I can upgrade my package while, at the same time, improving/maintaining my value for money would be gratefully received! Thanks.

I got a call from retentions this afternoon asking me why I'd cancelled so I told him it was on price, he asked me what I would like to pay so I said £10 (cheeky I know) he said he couldn't do it for that. I said how about £15 to which he said OK, that's for a 12 month contract. I also mentioned that my modem was a few years old and could I have a new one, no problem he replied (apparently worth £60)

So by cancelling and calling their bluff I've saved myself 25% a month :money:

unlikely to get anything better than what you have if brutally honest - thats a better price than any current known deal would beat...bear in mind, the cost to provide a basic service has gone up in all those years you've had it.
  • hi guys, just come accross this thread. we have already rung virgin to cancel, as we think we are getting ripped off, they told us-nothing they could do to lower-so you might as well change supplier!.
now i've seen this thread i'm gonna tell them to stick it and wait for the retentions phone call.

currently we are paying £30 (just gone up an extra £5) for unlimited calls and 8mb broadband (no high speed bb here).no tv no line rental
how much should i be paying??
this time last year we were paying £12.50 which seems reasonable.
