I have been with virgin for 8 years or more.

Bill is normally £75-£82 a month
    Your services
    TV L
    Phone Xl
    Broadband M

    TV extras
    Sky Sports Collection
    Sky Movies

I have the old silver virgin box so no HD or anything.

Obviously would like to pay less if possible or failing that get HD thrown in for the same price.

Also how much more would I be looking at for TIVO?

Sports and movies adds £29.50 to any bundle price - reducing your bill is pretty unlikely, but you could certainly pad out its value if you try.

A VHD box should be a freebie if you sign up to a contract extension although only retentions would do that, the benefit is the VHD is a self install...a V+ or Tivo will be free too, although there will be the £49.99 cost for either as an activation fee.

If you want to increase the amount per month a little go for this http://shop.virginmedia.com/bundles/bundles-with-extras/phm-tvxl-bbl-v-plus.html

The thing is, everyone expects to get it cheaper for being a long term customer, but since you signed up the service has got more expensive - there's little savings to be made since VM introduced the new systems, including getting rid of the one-off manually applied discount...

Just had a call from Virgin as a response to my email asking why I wasnt offered any incentive to stay. She offered for me to stay on the same package, but to go wireless with a free router, and V+ box (or Tivo) for £66-40 pm instead of the £73- I pay at present, Would have to pay one off activation fee of £49-95 in addition but if I keep the XL tv package, there is no monthly additional charge for Tivo or V+. I could decrease TV package to M+ for £55-49, but would have to pay for a V+ box on top. Must say, Im getting somewhat confused now, with so many combinations to think about. I suppose the way to look at it, is that Id be saving £7 a month, but having more for my money. I said I would think about it and get back to her. I'm wondering about asking to keep the old V box to use upstairs, but its not an HD ready one..does that render it obsolete, and would it be cheeky to ask to do that? I'm still unsure, as Sky would do the same thing for £60, with no activation fees, but they wouldnt budge on that.

tell them you will take it if they put the box upstairs - it looks like the discount might be the half price line rental offer they have at thier disposal - just check with them as the deal I was offered washalf price for 12 months but the phone contract was supposed to be 18 months (as it turned out the contract I declined to take up was actually 12 months all round...
  • Hiya!
I'm currently thinking about giving my 30days, as £21.50/month for 2mb (M) snail-speed internet is driving me crazy! I have absolutely no idea what to say while I'm on the phone to these people, as I'm not really an assertive person.

I've been with Virgin Media for 3 years or so and don't feel I'm getting the quality of service that I'm paying for. I started off paying £10/month for the first year as an introductory offer and the standard price was meant to be £18.00... but unfortunately the changes in VAT meant I've been paying £20.75 and £21.50. It's simply not worth that kind of money anymore. I've been putting it off for too long, but I simply can't afford to pay that kind of money for such slow internet.

I've considered switching to Sky and getting a bundle, but with my mum's name on the current line rental for the phone and mine on Virgin broadband, it would be too much hassle for us to switch at the moment while things are still tough for us.

Sorry for the rambled post, but I'm not the most practical when it comes to sorting out things like this. Would it be too cheeky to ring Virgin up and literally ask them to do me a better deal on my broadband to see what they say, and if all else fails, to put in my 30 days and hope they change their minds? I just don't want to fall flat on my face and end up with no broadband at all.

Thanks in advance for your advice :)

Absence is as important as abundance.

As bluerose I Was on the 2mb since last yr when I tried to cut the cost of our out goings. I was not brave (or v mse then) to go for a cancellation and when the CS said downgrade to lower costs we did. 1 yr on and was paying £22 for snail pace bb and phone line.
This time called cs and put in my cancellation.
1st call came the following day offering the same package for £19.99. I held my ground and said was going to sky. cs did the spiel about VM being best bb provider but as was on 2mb I was like- 'but I will be getting that from sky so I was used to it'.
over the next two weeks the best I was offered was £25 for the 20mb and phone.
    Again I said no.
Freaking out that the whole thing would backfire I phoned them on day 26 to ask if Sky would be able to get my old number(just a knudge to remind them I was leaving).;)

day 28 got a call from them offering me £30mb plus line rental for £25. I stated that I was paying £22 for now and she said fine will match that but was an 18mth contract . I got a direct number for there offices as I still did not bite- I need to discuss with OH.;)

Next day leave a message on the answer machine and get call back from same advisor. said I've thought about it but not comfortable with the 18 month thing. she goes fine would put me on a 12 mth contract. I go on in the same breath so as not to lose my nerve that Oh was set on sky as would have taken our outgoing above what we were currently paying. She matched it to current bill cost.:T:T. I also got a new modem/router in one thing

OH was really getting p off with me everytime I hung up on the retention team with a 'no thanks its still too much'.

Cancellation is the way to go and never take the first offer as I was told its the best the can offer.

Today I am hoping to phone them to get the bb upto 50mb but I know will have to pay more but hoping to get it discounted.

after the snail pace we have gone a bit mad..3 netbooks xbox and wii connected to the internet and with the hols can get a slow.

sorry for the rambling resonse. but wanted to share with you the waiting game to see who cracks first pays off.
    :money:
    sealed pot chellenger no992Total for 2011= £198
    mfw= 2011 overpayment =
    Mfw 2012 no#25=OP target £2000
The road to success is always under construction.

    Hi Chrissy

Who / what address did you direct your email too?
I am still missing calls every day but as yet I have been unable to speak to anyone. Maybe emailing them might prompt a more time convenient response.

    Thanks

    Hi Craig.
I just went to My Virgin Media and 'contact us' link and put it as a complaint in the drop down menu. the lady that called said that she understood I wasnt happy with my retention offer, so I told her they hadnt offered me anything, nor had they attempted to ring me during the past 3 weeks since giving notice! I'm still unsure what to do, since my initial plan was to decrease my monthly payment, but I guess £7 is better than nothing, and at least I'd be getting more for my money. My main bugbear is having to pay £49-95 to activate the 'free' box theyre offering me. I have been onto Sky again today, and they dont charge for the Sky+ box, or for activation, would also provide a wireless router and adapter for free, and still be £6 cheaper than Virgin. I dont expect to get a better offer from Virgin, but will give them a couple of days..my disconnection is 5 days away.... Good luck!

Hi guys, my 12 months is up next month and I phoned today to submit my notice of cancellation.

At the moment my current package is:

    M+ TV - £6.50
    L BB - £26.00
    M Phone - 12.99

This all adds up to 45.49, but they offered a discount for the package of 12.50 which reduced the total to £32.99. As of yet, I have still to pay anywhere near that (I paid 45.00 my last bill)

I spoke to a nice young guy an explained that I get better selection on freeview in my bedroom than I get on the main TV in the living room and that VM is very expensive for phone calls.

He told me that he would give me a free basic TV package, Large BB and free evening and weekend calls on a new 12 month contract for £21.40 per month. I toyed around and told him that was still too much. He then offered a Broadband only package of Large for £16 per month. I asked if I could get the XL Broadband for the same price and he went off on one telling me that he dared me to find a cheaper deal for Fibre-Optic BB and giving me the 'anyone else requires a BT phone line)

In all honesty I need VM Broadband as I prefer it over ADSL, I guess I can do without the phone but it's handy to have a landline and as for the TV - I really don't watch it that much and think that for the price, the selection of channels is dire.

I'm looking for any of you knowledgeable people to tell me if I'm being offered a good deal or not, and if you know of anyone who has been offered better?

Edit: I just noticed on the page before this that someone was offered the evening and weekend calls and L BB for £17/m) will definately be keeping that in mind, but is it good practice to mention this site on the phone to them?

    Thanks!

don't mention this site, its all unproven data, and wont help your cause...you can't prove its a confirmed example...I think it was quite a fair offer you got to be honest...

Had a call to my wife today offering to reduce our bill by £5.00 my wife asked them to ring back when I am home. I'll NOT be taking that offer up. Any ideas what I should get it down to?

    Thanks
