  • Virgin Media are ridiculous
I put my 30 days notice in and have literally been bombarded with calls from the retentions team every day since - but these have been to my home in the middle of the day so I've missed everyone.

I have called Virgin three times to ask them to update my account so that if (never took for granted they would) retentions called me again they could call on my mobile or in the evening.

First Person said they would put this note on my account but obviously never
Second said the same and that they would raise this as a management issue
Third said they couldn't put notes on my account for retentions to call my mobile as they only call home phones so they can confirm they are speaking to the account holder.

So basically I'm being bombarded with calls from a team who clearly want to at least try (maybe they have nothing good to offer) and keep my custom, but Virgin media can't do anything to facilitate this contact and would rather just lose a customer.

Furthermore everyone I've spoken to has told me different things and never achieved anything.

    Really really annoying
  • Can anyone give me their thoughts on this. Been with VM for 4 years now on same package, I am thinking of giving my 30 days to see what retentions offer (if they ring). Any advice would be great!

Bill is normally (£78-85) per month, £5 of this is normally phone calls.

    Your services
    TV XL
    Phone M
    Broadband M
    Virgin phone line
    Phone extras
    Voicemail Plus
    TV extras
    Sky Premium HD
    Sky Sports Collection
V HD Box - HD ready
    V+ HD Box
  • Just been on the phone to retentions and handed in my 30 day notice, we are relatively low paying customers with currently 10mb broadband and evening and weekend calls.

We currently pay £28.50 and they offered us the same package for £21.40 which is not an insignificant saving but I ideally wanted to increase the broadband speed to 20mb (not sure why are still offering 20mb to existing customers when new customer only have 10, 30, 50 or 100)

Anyway they couldn't increase the broadband and keep the bill less than I am currently paying even if I dropped the phone package to weekend calls only.

So handed in the notice and will wait and see what they come back to me with.

Thank you so much for your reply visidigi . At the moment my basic services charge is around £73pm. These figures are taken from March bill, so have increased slightly to the current £73-00

    Line rental £12-24
Broadband (size M) £20-75 (no router so also having to pay for pay as you go dongle for daughter to use her laptop!)
    XL TV £25
    Skysports package £22-50

less £9-50 original discount for TV, BB and phone bundle from 2006 (was 3 for £30 then!)

I have a basic V box (not HD box as stated on my account)
    No other extras.

In addition, I also have a Virgin Mobile SIM only deal for £18 pm

I could decrease the tv to size L if thats my only option to cut costs.

I only use broadband for surfing and browsing, but do use it a lot! Dont do any downloading as such...

Any suggestions would be really gratefully received xx

If I read that right your bills are around £73 quid including the mobile sim too?

If thats the case then I can see why they aren't offering much - there are no current deals that can save you any significant amounts - especially considering you have SSports and a mobile.

Or is the mobile in addition to the £73?

I doubt you will get much - its pretty much the old school VIP bundle, current VIP bundle of equivalent spec is £103 per month....you've really got quote a good deal to be honest - especially if the HD Premium channels are on both boxes (as thats £14 in itself)

The mobile is in adddition to the £73, and is usually around £20 pm. So with the usual £5 of calls on landline, thats pretty much £100 pm that Virgiin receive from me every month. Maybe Im expecting too much but it seems quite a lot, Sky would do the same (minus mobile) for just under £60, but with a Sky+ box and router included.

Ok in that case then there is some movement - I would look to this...

    http://shop.virginmedia.com/bundles/bundles-with-extras/phm-tvxl-bbl-v-plus.html

    £45 a month - £22.50 for Sky Sports = £67.50

    or

    £45 a month - £29.50 for Sky Sports and Movies = £74.50

Both of those will require you to pay the £49.99 activation fee, but its the same fee on V+ as it is Tivo, so at least you would have Tivo.

On those price you could also see if they can do half price line rental for 12 months - would save £7ish quid off the monthly amount.

If you really want to go all out, it depends what you spend on calls for that £5 - go for VIP http://shop.virginmedia.com/bundles/bundles-with-extras/very-impressive-package.html

Yes its £102 a month, but you get two boxes, everything you could need and HD on one box.

Be cautious of the sky setup - the 'free'broadband they do is very VERY basic and not much traffic - additionally the configurator for Sky is a pain - make sure you go to broadband and calls to add on all the line rental etc - it does NOT add it by default and was what caught me out when I was looking for a new deal from virgin...

Thanks so much for all your help visidigi. My main reason for trying to haggle a deal was to cut my monthly cost, which we really cant afford anymore.. If it was up to me, Id just get rid of Skysports, but the menfolk wont have that! If they dont get back to me with any offers before the disconnection date next week, I think I might decrease the TV package to the bare minimum M+, which would save around £18, maybe get rid of the phone altogether, and then see if they would do some sort of deal for a router or V+/Tivo. I really appreciate your advice, thanks again.
  • I have been with virgin for 8 years or more.

Bill is normally £75-£82 a month
    Your services
    TV L
    Phone Xl
    Broadband M

    TV extras
    Sky Sports Collection
    Sky Movies

I have the old silver virgin box so no HD or anything.

Obviously would like to pay less if possible or failing that get HD thrown in for the same price.

Also how much more would I be looking at for TIVO?
Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j

TV is one of those things - you have to be careful with VM, reducing it will take away other things you may use such as on demand and remember, if sports is required reducing off XL pack TV will mean you lose the ESPN freebie.

I would look at 10mb Internet, if you don't download its more than enough - if you renew contract then you should be able to ask them for a free router at least (as you won't be on 30mb you will only need the router, not the superhub)

Both V+ and Tivo have this £50 activation right now - I am waiting for that to go before taking it up, at the moment too many people going for it means its gonna be there a while - if they want to compete with Sky they will need to do soemthing in the run up to key xmas sales...
