I've just signed up as a new customer as im moving out of my parents house to join the big bad world!
im paying £43.99 a month for L broadband, L tv and M phone and a V+ HD box (minus £100 account credit, £65 quidco and £50 'refer a friend' credit for my dad).
Does anyone know if they will offer me a better deal if I call to cancel within my 28 day cooling off period? And if I did cancel it, would retentions call me even though I never really started the contract? Also, would I still get the 30 days to 'cancel my cancellation' if I cancelled during the cooling off period?
Thanks!

I tried that to cancel within 28 days last year and didn't get a call from Retentions. I left it for under a week before I told them I changed my mind. I guess it only works if you are actually at the end of your contract.0 -
So Vermin Media just rang home again and my OH answered it. The rep asked why we were leaving, to which my OH replied Sky had offered us their equivilent package with the addition of TV at the same price. The rep just replied "Ok, I'll go ahead and confirm your disconnection for July 15th".
Unbelievable! Is that it?!?
Should I expect another call from VM, or do you think that's going to be it? I'm half tempted to ring them and clarify what they've offered me in attempt to get them to up the offer... I really have no intention of signing up to Sky.0 -
Last Thursday I gave notice to cancel from my package:
TV - M
Phone - M
Broadband - M
for £29.58
They have rung several times a day since Monday, but I have only just been able to take the call. It's obviously a call centre and if you don't answer within a couple of rings the call may be lost.
The guy pretty much straight away offered me the same package for £14.99! New 12 month contract with upgrade to BB L. I accepted :T
Now need to cancel with Utility Warehouse.
Cheers all.0 -
Hi everyone - I'm looking for some advice please on Virgin and I'm hoping someone on here may be able to help?
I've been with them now for 4 years, the only reason I went with them in the first place was no line rental for the phone. The package I ended up with was free tv, with broadband and phone for £20 with no line rental.
I've been seeing this bill creep up and up over time, with the service getting lower and lower over time. I keep getting 'new customer' offers through my door and seeing offers that I have been unable to get access to - I've tried calling, even getting one guy in the customer services team totally agreeing with me that 'we are not looking after our regular customers, we are doing nothing to keep them'. Sounds like the staff themselves are getting very frustrated with the lack of service they can provide.
Anyway, now that I'm paying £30 a month - I have now received an email saying that I will now be charged phone line rental of £13.49 a month on top.....for a service that I don't want and I don't use. I have plenty of call credit on my mobile so I've no need for a home phone & paying nearly £45 a month is too much for what I need.
I'm stuck on what to do so can anyone advise? I do not want to pay line rental, but I do want broadband and a TV package. Has anyone got any ideas on where to go or do you think this Retentions team will be able to help as I'm willing to give it a go?
Thanks!0 -
I recognise that story - similar to mine.
I rang 150 several times expressing my unhappiness but nobody at virgin media seemed bothered.
The only way to make them take notice seems to be to give notice for disconnection. This will be at least 30 days.
Pick a good deal elsewhere as ammunition.
You will probably get a call from retentions within a week.0 -
Partner rang to find out why it's been cancelled straight away, which they said was a mistake so they are re-connecting us. This time we were offered something, the next broadband up, XL TV and phone for £38 a month, but not including line rental.. Currently paying £45 for XL TV and L Broadband, we don't need a landline at all so we declined the offer and continued with cancellation.
This has proven to be quite a hassle so far, and if I don't get a call from retentions after all of this I'll be mad!
So they cancelled our services straight away, then apologised for their mistake and expect it to be back on by 6pm. It didn't come back on, rang again next morning to be told it takes 48 hours further to come back on! Finally got our TV and Broadband back after 3 days without, and after much arguing they finally gave us £15 credit.
Had no calls from retentions yet.0 -

Tell them you're not having the installers inside your house until they've sent you a copy of the contract. I did this, and magically the contract letter turned up two days later via Royal Mail. I then called them and confirmed a new installation date...job done!
How right you are!
Had a call asking why i cancelled installation, i said i was given no contract in writing, so she says "well the contract was £21.50 a month for the first 3 months, then £31 after that for 9 months, thats what is wrote down here?"
"er, no, the offer was not for 3 month it was £21.50 for 12 months he said"
She says nearly laughing "That is why you got no written contract, no they can not do 30mb with phone at that price with £50 off your first bill"
then she offered me 10mb broadband for £14.50 first 3 months going to £21.50 after 3 months, but they wanted a £25 up front payment this time, so i refused the package and installation and i honestly hope they don't phone me again.Owed out = lots. :cool:0 -
I gave 30 days notice because Sky were offering free line rental and made it a lot cheaper for what I have:
Broadband - L
TV - M+
Phone - M
This for 37.99 compared to what others are getting is a joke! Still though the notice runs out on 10th June and haven't heard anything, had considered sticking with Virgin as I have high bandwidth usage but clearly Virgin don't value some customers as much as others...0 -

Still no phone call from rentions, just a missed call to arrange to collect our equipment. Looks like retentions don't call mobiles (we don't have/need a landline) so we may have to just cancel this notice, what a lot of hassle for nothing. I don't recommend it!0
