Ok, I called last Thursday to cancel. I currently have:
£47/month 10mb broadband, xl tv & phone evenings & week ends
On Tuesday afternoon they called and left a message with my husband for:
£36/month 10mb broadband, xl tv & phone evenings & week ends
On Tuesday evening, I called and left a message. On Wednesday they called but no one was in. On Friday morning I called and left a message asking to be called back before 2pm. 2 hours later they called with:
£34/month 10mb broadband, xl tv & phone evenings & week ends
I quoted the Sky package and I asked if they was anything they could do with the broadband speed and he replied immediately:
£35/month 20mb broadband, xl tv & phone evenings & week ends
So I have signed up for this deal for 12 months & I have 5 days from now to cancel if I change my mind
Hey there is this including your line rental?? did ya take it in the end??

Got a call today and it was her last call of the day. Was offered
TV XL
BB L + Free superhub
Phone M
Asian Premium Package (normally £11)
Free V+ box with activation
Line rental included
All for £43.99/month. Took it up straight away as we were paying that with everything on medium and the regular box. Hope it was the right thing to do as the more combinations I threw at her meant the price wasn't changing much so I agreed to it.0 -
Currently in the cancellation period with VM (Cancelled on 12.07.11) so got a while to go yet before equipment and actual cancellation takes place.
My package is as follows:
-TV M
-BB L
-Phoneline L
Price at £28.99 where the charge is only for the BB and phoneline while the TV is free. I called up 150 and they quoted me approximately £22.00 for just BB and Phoneline so I tried to convince VM to let me have it at that price with the free TV I was already getting. Unfortunately, they didn't play ball so I have cancelled and awaiting the magical call from retention.
They have both my landline and mobile on record. Will they try to ring both? I sincerely hope so!0 -
Well, after two unfruitful chats to Virgin to try and get a better deal, I finally put in my notice this morning. I have been paying £73 pm for M Broadband, XL tv with Skysports, M phone and line rental. The first lady I spoke to today was lovely, but could only suggest I downgraded tv to M+ or L, no further discount. Ive been with them for almost 5 years, and also have a mobile with them. I quoted them the current Skysports offer from SKy which is £40pm with a Sky+ box (I only have basic virgin one) and they just said they couldnt match it., and gave me a disconnection date of 20th August. I'm not a great haggler, and have no idea what a realistic price for that package should be, but judging from some of the deals on here, it looks like Im paying a lot. Any helpful suggestions of a realistic offer? Thank you x0

I waited for the call back for this 'new system' and it turns out to be a pile of guff - they already have the new system in other call centers - I called yesterday 30 minutes on the phone and they can do nothing for me.
I am on the original VIP - 20mb bb with a V+ and VHD box, with free HD Sports and Movies added for one box - this means my monthly bill is around £93 a month - I asked to go to the new VIP bundle with TIVO they have advertised - which is £101 a month (this would get me 50mb bb, HD on both boxes, TIVO - except it turns out it doesn't - the HD is only on one box, but there is no option to have it on both on that bundle - in other words their site is broken - even the woman on the other end kept getting random prices when making changes to the options.
As it stands im considering my options - sky is roughly the same price, but there is no activation fee (they want £50 to activate Tivo and cant in any way discount that) and they want £7 per box for HD - which makes them more expensive than sky - again apparently they now cant discount this anymore (once mine expeires off the current 12 mo £7 discount I will revet to paying) - basically Virgin told me there was nothing they could do - no discounts - and if I wanted TIVO I had to pay activation.
I refuse to pay an activation fee when I rent the equipment - if I owned it fine, but if I am renting it, it should come working within the subscription fee - and they should at least have some way of making it discounted or something...
Been with them 8 years - VIP since launch, had V+ the day it came out and Im really considering my options now...0 -
I would suggest cancelling and waiting for outbound retentions to give you a call. The normal customer services dept seem very limited on the deals they can offer whereas the outbound retentions team are a lot more aggressive.
I personally can't believe how much some people pay for their VM services. £100 p/mth just seems totally excessive to me, but each to their own I guess....
It is possible to get Tivo installed for free. They confuse the issue by referring to free installation but £50 activation. Whatever they call it, it's the same thing to you and I - a bill for £50. I got Tivo in for free after a bit of haggling. Whether or not Tivo is worth the extra £3 p/mth remains to be seen. I'm not overly enamoured so far....0 -
to be fair I do get alot for that £100 - but I would get more if they would move me to the new customer offer - but I refuse because they want £50 for activation and then they want to charge £7 per box for HD sports/movies...
I guess I will need to cancel and wait for the call afterall - a bit annoying i must admit.0 -
Cancelled two days ago, and had a call from (presumably) retentions today. The gentleman was lovely, but said he couldnt offer me anything except to increase my broadband to Large from the current medium (which I think is being done automatically anyway) and decrease tv package. So L broadband, L TV with skysports and M Phone for £55.49. Declined, but am worried that could be the final offer.....0
