I think what you will find is that outbound retentions offer better deals then when you ring them.
My package is way below yours, but here it is
BB L (10MB)
Phone XL (with caller display, 08 numbers included)
TV M+
2 X HD + boxes
for £26 per month
Contract length same as yours.
This is over £20 pcm cheaper then a new customer. I may be missing the point here, but IMHO getting £10 off on a £100 package doesnt sound good value for money.
I've just gone through the Simplifydigital link on this week's Newsletter for the O2 deal, which after discussion, worked out at £22 p/m average for a 12 month contract (inc. switch to copper set up from fibre optic). This was matching my VM deal which was:
L BB unlimited
Phone line rental + free Eve. + w/end calls
(No TV services, I'm happy with just Freeview)
£28.85 from 01/08 when the line rental goes up a quid.
First by Customer services/retentions was a discount to £25.40
called them up an hour later, said I wanted to cancel, offered me £21.85 p/m for a 18 month contract, starting from 01/08, so saving me about £89 for the first year and having to wait in for any physical changes to my hardware setup.
Is this a good deal/saving? is it worth cancelling and holding out for more from the "other" VM phone team? Anyone else have a better deal for the same services? Thanks in advance0 -
Answered my own question...just rang them up and now they've offered my a base package of an 18 month contract, with all services above for £13.50 for the first 12 months and then £20.49 for the remaining 6 months.
So I'm now paying less than half price compared to before for 10mb BB, phone line and eve/w'end calls which was £28.85.
Total savings for 18 months = £231.10:rotfl:
Really grateful to this site for getting and keeping me in a Money Saving state of mind!0 -
Almost two weeks since I cancelled. Had one call two days after, to ask why I was cancelling. His advice was to go elsewhere if i could get a better deal, then come back after a year and get a new customer deal! Virgin have almost £100 a month from me, including my mobile, and dont seem the least bit inclined to offer me anything. I'm at a loss as to what I can do next..I think I must be the only MSE'r who has cancelled and got absolutely no deal at all! Any ideas what i should do? Do I call them again, or wait until the last minute....?0

I did the same, waited and no call, cancelled cancellation, cancelled again, in the end I managed to get a reduction but nowhere near what others were offered on here (and VM claimed that the deals mentioned were not possible on their system, which is possibly true for them personally as different staff seem to see/offer different deals!).

How long did you leave it to cancel the cancellation? Can you leave it until the last minute?
Oh, and what excuse did you use?0 -
I was still sourcing an alternative supplier but wanted to be ready for the next offer. Left it until day 29 (as I didn't want to risk it going off, which happened when I was trying to get a deal out of Three years ago and left it to the last day, it went off during the call to them!).

Same thing happened to me. Cancelled, then outbound retentions phoned and spoke to my wife. She explained we'd been offered the same service with Sky for considerably less and the rep basically just said "Good Luck" and that was it. A week before my disconnection was scheduled, I phoned them and fed them a line about Sky messing up the installation date and asked them to cancel my disconnection. The rep was very helpful and asked why I was leaving. Ended up negotiating with her and got a pretty decent deal - nothing amazing, but a lot better than I was on.0 -
HI
I put in my 30 days notice last Tuesday after painful discussions with a very arrogant Virgin Media rep.
I currently have the following:
V+ HD Box
2 additional V-HD Boxes
XL TV
Sky Sports
XL Phone
S Broadband
My most recent bill was £91 (and bills in general range from £90-£100+) and that was without any excess calls or On Demand Movies etc.
People on here and other forums (many of whom have smaller packages/bills than me) seem to be getting excellent deals - sometimes without even having to speak to the Retentions department - yet all the "customer" service rep offered me before accepting my notice was a £7 discount.
Am I missing something or is it just a complete lottery who you speak to?
Also, how long do retentions usually take to call or is there a number for them?
Thanks

Craig, I got my call about 4 days after cancelling, not that they tried very hard to 'retain' me! I agree with you about the inconsistencies with deals. My bills are about the same as yours, around the £80-£90 mark (and I only have one basic Virgin box, no V+, or HD!) My Virgin mobile bill averages about £25 too, so thats quite a hefty sum they get out of me each month. I just cant see the logic in them apparently being happy to lose customers generating that sort of money and yet offer hefty discounts to customers on far smaller tariffs and to new customers. That doesnt seem to make much business sense to me! I think my main gripe is the broadband cost. I'm on the smallest Broadband package, and pay £21-25 a month. New customers pay £6-75 for 6 months, Sky Unlimited is £7-50. I'm beginning to get really cross now..maybe this is a good time to ring them again! I did wonder about sending a strongly worded letter, anyone tried that?0
