Virgin Media Retention thread

I contacted Virgin Media to ask for my MAC code the operator said they don't use that anymore because they're cable (Feb 23rd 2011) I figured I'd let them ask me what I wanted it for and said that having been a customer with both Blueyonder and Virgin for more than 15 years I felt I was getting a raw deal and had decided to check out other company's for a better one. The operator got quite shirty when I said I didn't want to downgrade my package, that I wanted a better deal than I'm getting with Virgin paying D/D which is as follows
Large TV @ £12.25
Large BB 10mg @ £25.25
Calls unlimited landline @ £12.24 and £8 line rental
£14 bundle discount so in total £44.20
She said I was getting the best deal on the market and that if I moved to other company's I wouldn't get the same package sizes for this amount of money, she did offer to tie me into another 12 month contract for a £3 reduction which I refused. I said if Virgin didn't appreciate such a good customer then I would go elsewhere she more or less said I could please myself but wouldn't budge. My problem is that I suffer with a form of number dislexia which makes it almost impossible to understand price comparison websites, charts or tables. I even struggle with public transport timetables. I'd really appreciate if someone could advise me how to work out where I could get a better deal without having to deal with the above. Is there somewhere I could just input my current deal and have it come up with cheaper alternatives?
Thanks
LIz
Liz, if you read a few pages back you will see what sort of prices people are getting for those services or more (closer to £30 than £44). You need to cancel and wait for them to call you back to get the best deals.
Good luck

Hi! Thanks for responding but as I said I have to deal with number dislexia and can't correlate numerical information as in this case I can't work out the differences between packages

Hi Guys,
Anyone know how much is a reasonable Total price to pay for the folllowing:
Line Rental
Anytime Unlimited Landline Calls
New V+ HD Box
TV Size M (pretty sure it's their most basic)
10MB Broadband, L (pretty sure it's their most basic)
We currently pay £42
This includes £2 for Call Barring so no one can dial a mobile/int'l number from the home phone and a 3 item 'discount'.
We've been with VM for as long as I can remember and are no longer in contract. The thought of cancelling and relying on someone to call back sounds fairly risky - I don't trust them!
Plusnet will offer
BB
Anytime Unlimited Landline Calls (inc. 0870/0845 numbers)
Line rental
for £27 a month (+ a one off £50 home phone - I'm guessing BT - line installation)
This sounds pretty good and I won't really miss virgin's basic (M) TV package (which is v. similar to the freeview channels that our TV has inbuilt).
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

basically i am currently on
broadband basic at a crap 10mb although most provide 20mb for the same price
tv medium
and phone line basic which is landlines free over weekends only,
currently a cost of £25 a month!!!
and obviously i would be willing to pay them an extra £5 per month to get 50mb broadband!!! and the super hub, and to get medium tv which includes living tvnot to bothered about the phone but hey owts a bonus and you have got an extremely good deal!
also however have they now got you locked into a 6 months half price deal? without you realising? or have they said it is £30 a month whilst you stay on it?
if you reply it would be a great help, so advance thankyous0 -
Guys, once again in order to get the best deal out of them you MUST cancel then you will get the call from retentions offering a much better deal.0

Hiya mate,
No worries! Yes it's true (well I hope it's true! - I asked for e-mail confirmation but they wouldn't give it me. Awaiting the letter in the post now...)
I was originally paying £26.49/mo, cancelled, waited for retentions to call then said that with Sky I could get Sky+, more channels, evening & weekend calls and faster broadband for ~ £30/mo (after cashback etc.). Was offered my above deal with anytime calls (XL phone) and same BB (L) but said I wanted a BB upgrade so switched to L phone and XL BB instead.
Pretty sure it's not a half price 6 months deal...was told it would be fixed at £30/mo and that would include the price rises happening in april.
I await the new contract...!0 -
I am on -
TV: M+ (With HD)
Broadband: L (10Mbps)
Phone: M (or whatever the basic one is)
For £37.49/mo currently.
Phoned to give notice of leaving and was offered upgrade to XL TV for ~£3 more (so about £41, I didn't pay too much attention to the exact price it would go up by.)
I continued to give notice instead and was told that if I changed my mind I would have to call them as there would be no follow-up call.
After the call I looked at the offer they classes as a Retention Deal - to replicate that currently would be £51.99, but £31.99 for 6 months so in effect would be no better off over 12 months!
Any advice?0 -

Wait for retentions to call you. You will get a follow-up call, don't worry! The team you spoke to when you phoned to cancel is not retentions and they have no power to offer you anything decent.0
