Wait for retentions to call you. You will get a follow-up call, don't worry! The team you spoke to when you phoned to cancel is not retentions and they have no power to offer you anything decent.
Interesting, why did they refer to themselves as Retentions? Is there some sort of sub-department?
I'm looking at the cashback on offer, it'd only work out as £46/mo on average to get the most expensive packages if a new customer!0 -

Are we talking about the department you spoke to when you phoned to cancel? That would be cancellations/customer service I think.
Unless -they- have phoned -you- after you've already put in your notice of cancellation you haven't spoken to the right department yet!
Wait it out (and obvo don't settle for anything less than the current deals for new customers!)0 -
Hiya mate,
No worries! Yes it's true (well I hope it's true! - I asked for e-mail confirmation but they wouldn't give it me. Awaiting the letter in the post now...)
I was originally paying £26.49/mo, cancelled, waited for retentions to call then said that with Sky I could get Sky+, more channels, evening & weekend calls and faster broadband for ~ £30/mo (after cashback etc.). Was offered my above deal with anytime calls (XL phone) and same BB (L) but said I wanted a BB upgrade so switched to L phone and XL BB instead.
Pretty sure it's not a half price 6 months deal...was told it would be fixed at £30/mo and that would include the price rises happening in april.
I await the new contract...!
thanking youno sounds like your on £30 a month until you cancel
how long do retentions take to call you back? weeks, months,
i am going to try and skip the retentions bit, just hmm how to word the email0 -
I am on -
TV: M+ (With HD)
Broadband: L (10Mbps)
Phone: M (or whatever the basic one is)
For £37.49/mo currently.
Phoned to give notice of leaving and was offered upgrade to XL TV for ~£3 more (so about £41, I didn't pay too much attention to the exact price it would go up by.)
I continued to give notice instead and was told that if I changed my mind I would have to call them as there would be no follow-up call.
After the call I looked at the offer they classes as a Retention Deal - to replicate that currently would be £51.99, but £31.99 for 6 months so in effect would be no better off over 12 months!
Any advice?
yeah, £37.49 a month with package you described there ripping you off, isnt that package only just over £30 as in just over?0 -

because they like to scare you to make you think they aint going to better there deal, get you into a new part of a package and then hook you into another 12 monther :mad:0 -
Hi.. my contract with VM has just recently expired so I'm looking to haggle with them. I'm currently on
XXL broadband
M+ TV
L telephone
and I'm paying 48.49 a month.
Ideally I'd like to keep the broadband and tv but drop the phone to the basic ie just weekend calls only.
So, do I phone up and cancel and I'll get a call from the retention peeps? How much can I reasonably expect to get them down to?
Cheers0 -
Hi I posted a few weeks ago about my offer, and found the person at VM switched me to 10MB, TV M, Tel XL from 20MB etc for £20. What was agreed was I would get this for a month at 20MB then £34 after if I choose to stay, but found recently he switched me to 10MB. Slightly annoyed, I rang up today about this. I went through the option to cancel and leave and got through in no time.
I told the nice lady on the phone what happened and she was confused as to why her colleague even gave me that offer as it wouldn't of been possible anyway. That aside she went through my usage and gave me 2 offers which I was quite happy about, the offers were just for your reference are
My original plan
BB 20MB, TV M and Tel XL at £46 but usually £50
New offer
BB 30MB, TV M and Tel M at £30, no install or activation fee
BB 50MB, TV M and Tel M at £36, no install or activation fee
Both no new contract so an extra bonus
I went for the 50mb in the end and have it scheduled to be put in on 10th March. Looking at some peoples offers on here they may be better than what I got but my bill was always £50 a month so personally I'm happy.0 -

Hi Trickster,
If you have a virgin phone, just call 150 and select the leave option (5 i think) then select cancel (option 2) and just say what they can do for you as you feel that for instance sky has a better offer (look into prices of rivals and make a note as they will ask you about the prices and what they offer)
I reckon as the plan im on soon is similar to yours apart from the tv you should hoipefully be able to get it down below £40 at least.0 -

Offered and accepted an upgraded today. This was after trying the cancellation trick, from which I didn't recieve a call:eek: (I had to ring up and cancel my cancellation!)
Anyways, rang VM today and explained that new customers are currently getting better offers than existing ones and that I want a better deal as was thinking of upgrading my package (L phone, M bb). The guy on the phone said he couldn't move on his prices so put me through to "customer relations" and after a bit of chat they offered me XL TV, XL phone, XL BB, superhub, V+HD box and no install fee, for £51 on a 12 month, then ongoing, contract.
Got what I wanted as our phone bills alone are regularly £20/£30. Also i'll have a bit more bargaining power in 12 months time...0 -
how long is an expected call back from the cancellations dept?
before you actually are cancelled within the month0
