You can indeed cancel your cancellation so dont worry about that. Good luck with getting a better deal. I was almost certainly going to put in my cancellation but given the notification of increased costs I'm definitely going to do it. Just need to try and make sure they phone me rather than my other half who isn't interested in things like broadband :)

Thanks for the reply, I will keep you all posted how I get on if I get THE CALL !
  • Hey guys. Looking to haggle a new deal with Virgin and just had a few questions:

    1. When you ask to cancel do they ALWAYS give you a 30-day cooling off period to change your mind on the cancellation?

    2. If Retentions call to offer me a new deal then will it always be a new 12 month contract, or do they sometimes offer a month-to-month?

    Many thanks.
  • Just to note I find the best deals are available by cancelling and actually giving your 30 day notice not by saying you'll cancel and dealing with the first people you speak to. I got my deal thrown at me and could have better I reckon if I haggled but I was happy enough :)

Hello, could forumers help? We are on broadband L, TV M and V+ box and phone M and nearing the end of our 12-month contract. We pay £36 a month now. What is a realistic price to haggle for if we call 150 to cancel and (we hope!) get a call back from retentions? Thanks!

Its not a cooling off period, its a notice period so will give you as you have to pay for it. I guess they could accidently cut you off early but then you would be entitled to a refund which they wouldn't like.

As far as I know new deals mean a new 12 months contract.

    Hey all,

I am currently paying £19.25 a month just for the Large 10mb Broadband package (no phone line). My contract is up on the 24th February and I'd like to try and either get this down somehow or possibly get a good deal on adding TV to my package. What do you think I could expect by calling retentions? I have been with Virgin for 8 years.

    Thanks

    Russ

the best deals are for packages so that is probably the best option, I doubt they will offer much just to keep broadband but if you dont ask you dont get.
  • I have recently given notice to Virgin to cancel my services due to no being offered any Retention deal. My final bill has now arrived and I am being charged 8 days after I Leave.

    Current have

    TV XL
    V+ HD
    BB L
    VIRGIN SIM 500mins

Letter of complaint sent or maybe retentions will offer a decent deal what would be a good deal.
  • Ok, not been on here for a ahilw so bear with me!
I want to upgrade my virgin package from just having virgin XL TV.

I have priced it up from their website for XL phone, XL BB and XL TV as an existing customer £47.56 but this is just for the first 6 months. People on here seem to get equivalent deals to what I want for around the £40-45 mark as a permanent price for the contract. This is what I want. I have currently cancelled my Virgin as there original offers that they gave me on the phone where much nearer the £57-65 mark which is no good for me. I'd rather go to Sky. Now I'm a bit worried that they won't have my number to phone me back (they should do but slightly unsure)

I'll let you know how it goes.

Myself and my otherhalf currently have Virgin mobiles. Can these be added into the deal? I see some people getting SIMS with free mins on? Not sure how this works. I guess both mobiles would have to be on contract which my other half isn't keen on but I don't mind.

Thanks for this thread. It's really helped with my resolve! Why can't they just offer the same prices all the time. It does do me head! ;-)
  • People, the deals for new customers are amazing with virgin media

And I am paying the following :

    Line Rental 02 February - 01 March £12.24
Talk Evening and Weekend 02 February - 01 March £3.50
    Loyalty Bb/Phone/TV Discount 02 February - 01 March £-17.25
    Additional Loyalty Discount 02 February - 01 March £-1.75
    Free Voicemail 02 February - 01 March £0.00
    TV Size: X L 02 February - 01 March £25.00
    Broadband Size: M 02 February - 01 March £20.75

Do you think that the best approach is to tell them that i am cancelling and wait for them to call in order to try and get a better deal ?
  • Hiya Guys.

Just thought i'd let you know how my retention deal went with virgin, let me know what you think?

    Previously my package was:

    Telephone Line Rental 26 February - 25 March £12.24 Payment Handling Charge 26 February - 25 March £5.00 Talk Evenings & Weekends 26 February - 25 March £3.50 Phone, Bband L & TV M Saving 26 February - 25 March £-10.00 Payment Handling Charge Credit 26 February - 25 March £-3.50 Broadband Size: L 26 February - 25 March £25.25 T V Size: M 26 February - 25 March £0.00
    Total service charges: £32.49

my average spend on telephone calls was around £30 as i call a LOT of 0845 and 0870 numbers!
Was looking at the sky packages and saw a good offer with a self made bundle (Sky+HD, 3 channel packages including variety, unlimited broadband and talk unlimited) which came to a monthly charge of £55.50 and a £10 one of fee for the line rental installation. This included free 0870 numbers. Not really bothered about the free 01, 02 and 03 numbers as I get them free in my mobile phone contract. SO.

Called Virgin media to cancel with them to tell them I was going to sky as they could offer me more than I was getting with Virgin for the money im paying them, making them specifically aware that the free 08 numbers and HD box was a strong leader, also pointing out that with what it costs me in series passes on iTunes, getting Sky1 was also a big issue. The guy who I spoke to basically offered me:

    XL TV
XL calls (including free 0845 and 0870 numbers)
    FREE HD BOX
    same BB package (:()

    Total cost per month: £48.something.

I have checked on the website and an equivalent package would be around £58.99 with a one off fee of £49.95. So i've made a massive saving, especially when taking the series passes into account!
6 debts down - 1 to go: just over £1000 though, soon soon....

Staying happy and positive through 2011 (hopefully!) :j
