Ok I'll keep an eye out on my mobile and landline depending on which number they call back.

We won't use the virgin line it's just to get the best discount - we will keep the normal Pipex one alongside it.

I did tell them about the sky package but not sure if it is correct what I said.

Any reason why you don't take the whole package to Sky anyway?

No reason I am just happy with VM products and no hassle to change over etc.

Apart from the price presumably. ;)
  • Looking at what people are paying, I think I must be a fool!

    We have

    Telephone Line Rental £12.24
    Talk International £1.50
    Call Display £2.05
    TV size L: £12.75
1 Additional V Box: (our old one) £15.00
    1 V+ box £15.00
    discount -£9.40
    Broadband M £20.75
    Paper Bill £1.25

Total is £71.14 and we only have the smallest broadband and I dont think we get any free calls (to be honest we hardly use the landland at all - call charges last month were £3.86 so free calls isn't a big incentive)

If I pull up the similar bundle on the Virgin website it's £40.04 after the initial 6 months.

We don't have a BT line, so moving to Sky isn't an easy prospect, but I am not happy at paying way over the odds.
We have been with Virgin for about 8 years, so I presume out of any contracts.

Where do I start? I am not a ruthless negotiator, and realistically I don't want to cancel and move to Sky, but it's quite galling to feel completely ripped off!
  • just to reply to myself, I phoned them up armed with current prices and managed to get it down to £49, which still seems higher than others have quoted, but I didn't have to cancel etc, so it's a small victory anyway

Well yes apart from the price lol.

Plus I would need to pay for a variety of mixes to get the same channels as the XL TV offers for VM....

Out of interest and so I can see what Sky charges would be for the package I currently have, which tv channels would I need on Sky to match the Virgin XL TV package i.e. all the entertainment mixes?

I am trying to get a Sky comparison as a new customer for the following for when retentions phone:

XL TV with V+ HD Box
    M Broadband

    and

XL TV with V+ HD Box
XL Broadband with free combined modem and router
    M phone

Obviously I would like installation charges to be included.

If anyone can be of assistance it would be much appreciated.

Do you think I would be reasonable to say I will stay with VM when I speak to retentions if I get the following:

XL TV with V+ HD Box
XL Broadband with free combined modem and router
    M phone
and maybe an extra V+ Box (maybe too much though)

For £31.50 per month and with installation charge waived if I sign up for a new 12 month contract?

Also if I get an extra V+ Box at a later date will it just be the £49 + £99 charges I have to pay as a one off or will it cost twice for the TV package? Will VM charge for installing a line upstairs and is it just a case of running another cable up there?

There is a specific number you could ring for retentions.PM me and I may offer it to you if you are a regular poster.
Go down the CEO office if you are getting your bills mixed up or feel you are being lied to.They may offer you some compensation for your troubles that could put a smile on your face.

Remember SKY have been doing the £5 unlimited UK calls to 01,02,03 (up to one hour calls)
and this also includes international calls and 0870 numbers.
Mention this when you phone and keep haggling.
My posts will tell you exactly what I received (and wanted)

I will again say that unless you cancel you will not get that phone call and make sure it's retentions in Birmingham otherwise I fear you will be wasting your time.150 route will not give you a cracking deal.

My deal was in November so things could well of changed now.

Lastly if you go for the V+ box do not accept installation as you will be charged for this.Get it to arrive by courier(they pay) and arrange with them afterwards to have the other box collected by their engineers.Unless of course you want to be hit with a £40 charge. It's easy to put in just remember to change it to all the new leads and make an activation phone call.CHECK YOUR NEW BILL/CONTRACT WHEN IT ARRIVES.
