You stick to your guns, I did get instant email verification each time I negotiated a new deal.

As an aside, I went through a phase of having totally random billing amounts.

Instead of, at the time, £7/mth, I'd get £13.27, phone/argue with the off-shore billing, next month it would be £3.79, all over the place.

I could never get it to balance.

I've now left, and called to see why my modem hadn't been collected, I was informed that they wouldn't bother to collect as it was a plain modem (not router).

The retentions person said "Oh you've got a credit coming to you, it's more than I'd expect for BB only"

Cheque arrived today for £20.87. So perhaps they can't add up.
    Move along, nothing to see.

I intend to stick to my guns - no email, no deal!

I'm also tempted to email their CEO again and tell him about this year's efforts to keep me which have so far resulted in one person lying about emailing me the deal and the 2nd person lying by saying he couldn't email the deal as his supervisor said he wasn't allowed to.

I'm getting to the stage of thinking I'm better off without them and saving myself the £15.94 altogether. Totally fed up with the lies!

I already have a BT line and O2 BB.

    Hi,

I have just phoned VM to give them my 30 day cancellation notice and was offered the following:

    M Phone
    XL TV
    XL Broadband (unlimited usage)

This will be £43.49 per month if I sign up for a new 12 month contract. There is no installation charge for a phone line. As mentioned previously I am currently paying £41.50 for XL TV and M Broadband.

Is this a good deal or should I proceed in gving my notice? I wasn't told I was speaking to retentions but rather the 'cancellation' department and that they could "basically do anything regarding changing my account costs"...

Third phone call arrived today. Went over same old story - was told that email could not be sent on Tuesday as person who sends them wasn't there and yesterday the person I spoke to was off.

    Now have the email;

    XL Phone with 0845/0870 package
    L BB

    £16.94pm

However it's 18 months contract for phone and 12 months for BB - no mention if price goes up after 12 months.

Not happy with the 18 months phone contract - would rather both was for 12 months.

Not as much as the Retentions team can offer though. I would still put in the cancellation and wait for the phone call.

Have you got prices from elsewhere to compare with?

For example Sky is £12 for phone, £7.50 for BB - that's only £19.50. Find out how much for the TV.

    Ok will do - thanks.

They have put notes on my account as to what they offered me today so retentions should hopefully offer much better.

Just had my phone call as promised to discuss deal on receipt of email. I asked him to clarify what happened after 12 months. I was told that the half price line rental offer was only valid for 12 months and therefore cost would go up for the last 6 months. Sneaky negotiations by not mentioning the increase after 12 months for the remaining 6 months that I'm tied in.

Told him I wasn't interested as I can get cheaper with a 12 months deal.

I phoned back this evening and told I was giving my cancellation notice - date of disconnection 29/1/11 - as I was thinking of moving to sky as they are offering my current package as a new customer for £29.50 (not sure if this is correct).

How long should I expect to wait for a call back from retentions?

Also, I already have my landline with Pipex and they said installing a (separate) cable line wouldn't interfere as my current line BT/ADSL - is this right and will there need to be any digging up to install a cable line?

Could be a day or two but with the holiday coming up it might be a little longer.

Assuming you already have other services there will be no digging up to install a cable phone line. Pipex is indeed ADSL - what are you doing with this? Virgin's phone prices are very expensive.

Ok I'll keep an eye out on my mobile and landline depending on which number they call back.

We won't use the virgin line it's just to get the best discount - we will keep the normal Pipex one alongside it.

I did tell them about the sky package but not sure if it is correct what I said.
