from retentions. Waste of time really, she said I can save you money, i thought exacellent, Then she tried to reduce my phone package, call barring etc, Tried to remove sky sports 2 etc, I said you aren't saving me anything, you are just taking things off. She agreed, I just said goodbye.

Did you say you were leaving because you could get the package cheaper elsewhere or just say you wanted to reduce costs?

Hi, I spoke with Virgin media today (the retentions dept) after realising my bill has gone up significantly.
I was paying £28.54 until Aug 10, then it jumped up to £46.49 (details below). Reason being a discount was removed which was -£17.95. They informed me this extra discount was given to me for 1 yr and that it could NOT be given again and could not be offered. The reason they gave me the discount in the 1st place is that I said I wanted to leave to go to SKY to get a better deal which I quoted at the time.
    Service I get:
    Talk Unltd phone £7.95
    Line rental £11.99
    XL TV £24.50 with 1x V+ box
    L Broadband £25.00
    -£21.20 Triple combo loyalty discount
    -£1.75 Additional loyality discount

    = £46.49
    (this was -£17.95 = £28.54)
Virgin said they could knock this down to £41.99 pr month if sign up to another 12 month contract to stay with them.

Best SKY could offer this time is: £36.50 for standard TV +kids@ £1, 2MG BB, Phone Unltd landline calls. This inc. SKY +box but need to pay extra £10 setup fee.

Is what I am paying now OK? or does anyone know how to get a better deal. I need a talk unltd anytime, M broadband, Freeview TV with SKY1 and kids channels. I don't need amazing TV or BB, mobile calls or international calls.

Many thx 4 any help/advice received.

Before I phone VM to ask for sky sports to be put on(wife wants to see the darts) could I get a better deal from them?? Here is a breakdown of latest bill from them
    Line Rental 09 December - 08 January £11.99
    Payment Handling Charge 09 December - 08 January £5.00
    Talk Evening & Weekends 09 December - 08 January £3.45
    Loyalty Bb/Phone/TV Discount 09 December - 08 January £-22.70
    Additional Loyalty Discount 09 December - 08 January £-1.75
    TV Size: X L 09 December - 08 January £24.50
    Broadband Size: L 09 December - 08 January £25.00

TOTAL COST £45.49 + CALL COSTS

Sill have the same box as usual NOT A V+ BOX, still using a wired router & son got a XBOX for crimbo so would poss prefer wireless router.

I know I can save the £5 by using DD but having probs ensuring money in bank on payment date.

    Thanks in advance.

why not ask virgin to reduce the XL tv and see if that makes a difference (presuming you can get Sky1 or something other than XL?)

If not then i'd be going to Sky - save £60 a year :)

Depends what you need. BT are doing great deals with Sky Sports for £7 IIRC. You could also ask them to change payment date to on thats better suited for a direct debit?

As always, best advice is to research the competition and then phone to haggle armed with this info.
  • what are my options???

Having seen some of the great deals on here I have just given VM Retentions a call and tried to get a better deal. Here is what I currently have:

2 V+ Boxes with XL TV
    M Phone
    M BB
    £41.99 a month

and here is what I have seen on here that I was aiming for:

2 V+ Boxes with XL TV
    M Phone
    L BB
    £37.00 a month

Got told no chance and that I was already on the best deal I was gonna get. Tried to call his bluff, but ended up cancelling my contract :rotfl:

I suppose my questions are as follows:
    • We don't use our VM phone and dont even have a phone plugged in... is this the only way VM try to get in touch with you to offer deals?
    • Is it possible for me to cancel my cancellation or have I completely shot myself in the foot?

    Cheers,
    Michael

You can't speak to the "real" retentions by phoning them - you actually have to cancel and wait on them phoning you to get feedback on why you are leaving.

[*]We don't use our VM phone and dont even have a phone plugged in... is this the only way VM try to get in touch with you to offer deals?

Each time I have been contacted it's been through my Virgin line.
[*]Is it possible for me to cancel my cancellation or have I completely shot myself in the foot?

No you can cancel the cancelllation.

If you really want a good deal you need to be armed with competitor's prices so do some research.

I got my phone call yesterday and discussed a deal. I asked for it to be emailed and he said fine. Then said he didn't have a note of my email address - very odd! I gave him it and he said to expect an email within 5/10 minutes - still waiting on it.

Retentions phoned again - no note of yesterday's conversation and deal discussed. No wonder email wasn't received.

Started again - said he could do same deal and would I accept it today. I said I would if the deal was emailed to me. Sorry we can't do emails but you'll get it all in writing and if you don't like it you can cancel within 7 days.

I said no way as last year my agreed deal jumped up by £11 halfway through and different notes had been put on my account than what had been agreed. I had to go through the CEO to get it put right as CS more or less accused me of lying and then said I must have misunderstood the deal.

He is supposedly putting notes on my account and getting yesterday's person to get back to me as he said he could email it. I doubt this will happen.
  • Can anyone offer advice please.

    I am paying

    Line Rental £12.25
    Talk Unlimited £8.00
    Call Reject £2.55
    TV XL £25.00
    Additional V+ Box £15.00
    Broadband £22.50.
    Sports £23.50

I then get loyalty discout -£22.70
    Additonal discount -£1.75
    Boxes Discount - £9.50

Total £76.69. Could I get better please ?

It is so expensive. I am out of contract.

So after the third phone call from retentions when the first two times I told them I was stilll going they have now dropped my price to £61.90.

This includes all of the above.
    Talk Unlimited
    Large Broadband
    XL TV
    2 x V+ boxes
    Sky Sports full package
    Call Reject
    and Free 0800 numbers. !!!!

They have emailed me the deal, I have gladly accepted.

This is £50 discount per month from their standard prices.

    I am VERY happy. :A
    nothing.
