Anyway armed with what I learned from here and what BT could offer me (definately let them know you know) I sent a mail giving notice to quit through the customer section of their website and waited for the call...
Have:
TV Starter M+
V+HD box
BB L up to 10mb
Talk Weekends package
And this was costing £37.49/month
Spoke to a lady from retentions and now have all this for £24.99/month. Mentioned BT include 0870 and 0845 in their package so she agreed to this
also said the BT deal includes up to 20mb. Of course got the lecture about "check the speeds online, you get at least 8mb with VM and only 2.5mb with BT" but as I was institant she said she'd send me one of the new hubs to replace my modem and router and this should help too (would have cost £60)
From reading this thread insisted she put this in writing so have got all this on an E-mail!
New hub turned up today (thats only about 3 days!) so it seems I can trust what she said. Not bad for not much effort on my part.
so 1. Definately try for a better deal
2. Ask them to put this in writing
3. Be aware of what the competition can offer you
Hi
At least they improved the deal for you.I was happy to read you spoke to Retentions as you did put in a cancellation which triggered a call from them.I was very happy to read you asked for the deal to be sent by email too.Hopefully my messages are helping someone.
Shame they couldn't upgrade you to XL Tv and calls to landlines anytime.I got all that including international 250 mins and 0870.0845 are also covered for just £26 and I have been with them(well Eurobell-Telewest-VM for over15+yrs too).Oh and I received a V+box which I fitted in(easy peasy) and got activated myself saving huge charges.
Watch out for extra charges on your bill!!!!!
Lastly members are urged to do their research.Sky for example charge just £5 per month and give you unlimited UK
Landline calls, international calls (to selected countries),and 0870 calls included.Their unlimited broadband is just £7.95 per month and their landline rental is £12.00.All this would be expensive on VM so they need to offer you goodwill payments to reduce their rates.
Ignore the website rates if you as renewing your deal with VM as retentions offer you a cracking deal.
Don't bother phoning 150 as the deal you are offered is not a cracking deal more a reduced rate. You must cancel and wait for the call or apply with another company.
Any new members wanting to join VM or Sky should consider using a cashback website, like Topcashback as there is money to be earned.Go and check what you could earn .Clear your cookies if you do this.0 -

Xl TV
M phone (eve + we)
L BB (10mb)
phoned up to cancel and got offered

a free wireless (im still on wired)

oh well, i shouldnt expect to much ive only been with them for 15+yrs

I'm just about to phone up because my internet is fricking low, only 0.3mbps when its supposed to be as high as 10mbps but I'd settle for a couple of mbps.
I've just done the test again and now it is 3mbps, I don't know whats wrong with virgin but my internet is going dreadfully slow and then normal again
And a third time in 10 mins and its up to 7mbps ??
====
My last bill was as follows as well, is this a good price?FIXED CHARGES
Line Rental - £11.99
Payment Handling Charge - £ 5.00
Talk evening/weekends - £ 3.45
Phone/Broadband - £12.50
Paper Bill - £1.25
===========================
TOTAL - £34.19
===========================
USAGE CHARGES - £19.00
===========================
GRAND TOTAL - £53.19
Seems like a lot of money to pay, what else is everyone paying? I'm more interested in the fixed charges than the usage charges.0 -
Can anyone offer advice please.
I am paying
Line Rental £12.25
Talk Unlimited £8.00
Call Reject £2.55
TV XL £25.00
Additional V+ Box £15.00
Broadband £22.50.
Sports £23.50
I then get loyalty discout -£22.70
Additonal discount -£1.75
Boxes Discount - £9.50
Total £76.69. Could I get better please ?
It is so expensive. I am out of contract.nothing.0 -

If you can pay by DD it will save the £5 handling charge.
If you sign up for online billing it will save the £1.25
I'm guessing that the £19 is call charges. If they are normal and just daytime geographic numbers rather than 0845 0870 etc. and premium rate then the £8 Anytime would be cheaper although there are cheaper options still such as VOIP avoiding VM call charges entirely.
£53 for phone and 10Mbps broadband is absolutely dire imo - doubly so as it seems it isn't even working properly.0 -
This is my latest bill from Virgin dated 06/12/2010
Line Rental............ 04 dec - 03 jan £11.99
Talk Unlimited........ 04 dec - 03 jan £7.95
Callbar................. 04 dec - 03 jan £2.00
Anonymous Call 04 dec - 03 jan £2.50
Rejection
BROADBAND SIZE L. 04 dec - 03 jan £25.00
Now my query is on Broadband homepage there is an offer at the moment that Broadband size L is halfprice to new customers if they have Telephone as well at £6. 25 a month for 6 months and then full price after that at £12.50.
Why then I ask myself have I been paying £25 for years and even my current bill for this size package???? Any offers of what help and where I go next please.:j :j :j :j Thanks to all the MSE members for helping me out with coupons and vouchers :A :A :A :A :A0 -
You need to phone up as I also had to do that (though it was a good two years ago), when you use phone and internet you get a discount as I expect users who subscribed before the offers don't getd the discount automatically applied.0

Hi all. Ive just joined the forum and this is my first post:)
I would like to upgrade my M broadband + M phone ,as the bill frequently tops £60, and add the XL TV. Ideally I would like the triple XL bundle plus Sky sports and V+HD at a competitive price.
I'll try a few of the tips from this thread, give VM a ring and let you guys know how I get on.
Great forum by the way!0 -
Hi,
I have today received an e-mail from Virgin in response to my recent contact via their website (they tried to call me twice but I missed their call).
Here is what I sent to them:
Good morning,
I phoned earlier and spoke to a member of staff regarding the services that I currently have (M broadband and XL TV) for which I pay £41.50 per month and was advised that I would need to get a phone line in order to save anymore, and by doing so would only save me around £1 per month, which just isn't worth it with the benefits that I have with my current landline provider.
Given that I know of someone who has the following services with yourselves:
XL TV
2 x V+ boxes
XL Telephone
L Broadband
For a fixed cost of £37.19 per month for 18 months with £30 credit for the first month (so only costing £7.19) and they were given a new home hub, I'm sure you will agree that the amount I am paying, and have consistently been paying for the last 3 years, is excessively high in comparison.
Because of this I will definitely be looking to change my services to Sky in the new year and am aware that I have to give you 30 days notice in writing. Can you please advise me as to how I go about this i.e. is there an e-mail address I have to send it to or do I have to it by letter, as I fully intend to do this after Christmas rather than continue to pay my current amount?
Here is their response that I received today:
Thanks for your e-mail below.
I'm sorry to hear that you are thinking of leaving us due to the cost of services and that we are unable to reduce the cost sufficiently in order to retain your custom.
Further to your e-mail, I can advise that you can give your 30 days notice, either by calling, e-mailing or writing to us. However, we would recommend that you call us on 0845 454 1111, so the whole process can be arranged in one phone call.
If you prefer to e-mail us, please put disconnection as your subject, also include a daytime telephone number, should we need to contact you about anything, and if you were to write to us, please find the address below.

Once again thanks for contacting us and apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Best regards

I don't know what you guys think but I personally find that awful customer service!
I don't want to give my notice over Christmas in case they do something stupid and cancel our services but I certainly will do in the new year!
We already have a sky dish up from the previous owners so switching wouldn't be much of a problem.0
