Unbelievable, I called to cancel again so that I can have some one call me back and give me a 18 month deal, I got told I won't get a 18 month deal, so take it or leave it. So I said I'll leave to go to sky for my services where I'll get better speeds then 10mb (exchange less then 0.5 miles away), she laughed and said yeah right I know adsl won't be faster then that. I said I wanted to leave again and she put me on hold for over 15 minutes and didn't come back and now its pass 8pm when they close so I bet she put me on hold and soon as it hit 8pm she just left.

I've been with cable for over 15 years, never left them. I think they are just taking advantage.

That's what he told me, I'd never get above 2mb according to his official speed checker, I'm quite happy with 6mb at £22 for the year with O2 LLU.
    Move along, nothing to see.
  • BT's website shows I would get at least 15mb and those stats are old!

I think you were in a better position to haggle than me, in that you already had a tv package and everything set up (except HD), and you have been with them longer than me.

I found it difficult to come up with reasonable arguments in my support, because what they offered me is better than anything I could have got from Sky as a new customer.

With hindsight I maybe should have been a bit more assertive and actually followed through my threat to give the 30 days notice to cancel, but for now I am still happy with the deal I got.

Your deal is very impressive though, and is something to aim for this time next year!

    Hi
I think if you are paying a certain amount and in these hard times you are offered a reduction when you dial 150,it's easy I guess to
accept it.However the problem is that 150 staff read from a script,
so they are going to tell 'it's the best they can do on that particular day and time you phoned.
I must stress that there is another number that you are given once they contact you for feedback as to why you are leaving VM.These are the guys you should be speaking to.

However once they know you have actually given 30 days notice to quit(that's why it's best to give this notice 30 days before your contract is due to expire and not at point of expiry, they will actually get a message from another supplier (as you may want to keep your phone line)which then activates the retention department deals
into a 'keep the customer at all costs deal'.
That's why my deal is so good.I haggled to the point that what they offered was good for me but the price needed to be alot better than Sky (who actually wanted £29 for just a phone line and broadband however that did include unlimited international calls and landline calls which also included 870 numbers). This includes a £3 charge for not taking the TV deal.
So in effect I was saying to VM give me the TV for free

This is a joke; I sent a letter to Neil Berkett complaining about the treatment I got from their customer services yesterday. I email back today from the executive team in his office that I would get a call back. I got a call back an hour later from the team stating there’s no notes of what happen and the offer I got was for £44.95!! and not £37.90. She said the offer I got was the best available and this is the price stated and it states this price in the contract I was sent out. I said this isn't the price I was quoted, she said you've been charged £5 for the v+ box services but the agent who offered me the deal said he would waive this!, also even tho I stated twice I wanted my new hd box and router sent in the post and agreed a delivery for Friday, a engineers visit was still booked for 2 weeks time. I'm so annoyed, I said I still wanted to cancel because these are all lies and she put the cancellation through and said I wouldn't get any call backs and my equipment will be collected the day after my services are cancelled!

    My services are the following

    XL phone with 0845/0870
    L Broadband
    M TV with V+
    Asian Bundle

I even asked the agent when I got the £37.90 offer to email me the deal and he said it’s been sent in the post. It seems I just got done over. Looking at all your deals, I don’t even have XL TV to be paying over £40, this means that before the Asian bundle which is £10 a month, they want £34.95 for the other services which most people here are getting for under £28!
  • Hi,

I have been with virgin (NTL) for got to be approximately 12+ years i was originaly i thinkon a 12 month contract the offer i had was as follows.

    TV L
BROADBAND 10Mb ( not sure originally)
    i got both for £20 a month

I am now paying £25.00 not entirely sure why!!!
I dont really need the TV as freeview is all i need but if i can get a deal then i wont say no like :D
I have never called them to see if i can get a deal in all the time i have been with them and think its now time to see what options are available to me, i would appreciate any help with this as i'm not very good with negotiation.

Should i consider over providers or do you thinkvirgin would offer better deal considering length of time i have been with them??

    Thank You in advance x

Further to my previous post as follows:
    Hi,

I currently have the following for which I am paying £41.50 p/m:

    XL TV (with V+ box)
    M broadband

I don't have phone with them but I think that's very expensive in comparison with:
    XL TV
    2 x V+ boxes
    XL Telephone
    L Broadband

£37.19 per month fixed for 18 months. I also got a £30 credit for month 1 and a new Home Hub.
    Wouldn't you say?

Been paying this for 3 years - definitely time for a change and if possible would like to integrate sports package in there somewhere or maybe movies!
I phoned Virgin up this morning and was told I needed to get a phone line with them to get any discount. I explained why I don't have one and was told if I get one with them it will save me........ready.......a whole £1 per month - I'll give you time to get over the shock! :rotfl:

I asked about cancelling and was told I need to give 30 days notice.

I later e-mailed them about what I had been told, mentioned about the above deal for £37.19 per month etc and asked how I go about giving my written notice i.e. e-mail/postal address, as I intend to cancel after Christmas. I am just waiting to hear back from them now.

    Hi
I have taken this from my post 29/11/10.Note whilst you are being given the usual price it's the goodwills and other discounts that will reduce your bill further.
The right time ,day and person you speak to will dictate what deal you get.If you phone 150 you won't get the best prices.
In my signature I talk about a 'few extra bonuses too'.These are nothing to do with my bill but everything to do with errors that have happened since I took out my new contract.

One thing that alot of companies do is try to compete with what they think the competitor is charging so they go to the website to look at their charges. What they sometimes fail to realise is that there are sometimes hidden agendas that keep customers where they are.
Just ask anyone who actually has been a customer of Homeserve if they pay the website price. They can actually cut their renewal price in half on a strength of a phone call if they speak to cancellations. They are another
company who are always happy to haggle at renewal.

    Here is the charge workout
Landline offer all inc VAT 11.99 (reduced to 5.99 for 12 months)
08 landline calls cost 2.00 per month(These are excellent for those 0870 and 0845 where you may not always get an alternative number on Say no to 870 website)
International calls(check the countries covered) 5.00 per month(this covers the first 250 minutes per month)there is a 1.50 package that reduces the minutes charge if you prefer that one)
XL tv package 25.00 per month
    L Broadband(up to 10meg)24.50 per month
Landline calls 01,02,03 7.95 per month

This works out to 76.44.Then they deduct 5.99 for the half price line rental,21.20 & 3.00 loyalty bonus and as a goodwill gesture a further
20.24 giving a total of 26.00 per month for the next 12 months.
The telephone is 18 month increasing after 12 months.
It is advisable to contact them one month before your contract ends to give them notice if you want to leave.
You then can give them notice or maybe you could be offered a new contract.
