Sounds like a good deal! What time did they call (afternoon or evening) and did you just call back on 150 or to a different number please?

They called me back in the evening, about 6.30pm. I made sure I got the chaps name and direct contact number which was a 020 313 number.
  • Part of me wants to hold out until VM release the Tivo as might be able to use that as a bartering tool, failing that, if I was to cancel, would the missus signing up be classed as a new customer or does it go on the property?

give your 30days notice and that package will be offered to you by retentions for £34.25 ...and your current £42 is it actually just under £42 or are they charging you for some trivial thing?

I'm paying around £31 for L Broadband, M TV and a phone line, been with VM for 4 years now but they really don't care. Wanted to remove the phone line but it wouldn't reduce my package because I'd lose a discount.
I've cancelled my services about 2 weeks ago and got no call from retentions. Got a letter, however, asking me to reconsider my decision, with no discounts or offers :) I even called retentions to ask when my services will be cut off, they told me and that was it "bye bye!", they are not helpful at all!

Tempted to sign up with some fancy broadband from BE and just buy a Freeview+ HD box for TV, same as V+ but with no contract or a monthly fiver for HD.

I think that it is becoming increasingly clear from comments on here and on other discussion boards that the people you speak to when you take the "Thinking of Leaving" option on the phone system are no longer Retentions but Customer Services. This is a fairly recent change, but clearly means that you have to give your 30 days notice and then await a call from Retentions (which is an annoying change as you have to wait, have to actually give notice and they are in control of whether they call you or not!).

I had a call back from someone in Retentions the other day (turned down their offer as it happens as not particularly good, three weeks into my cancellation period!) and she said that the offer was only available there and then and if I called back, I would go through to Customer Services or Sales, as Retentions call you, and therefore I wouldn't get the offer by calling them.

To be honest like most things these days - I would recommend checking all the alternatives to:

    a) know what you are bargaining with
    b) know whats available should they not offer a better deal and/or they do cancel the service.

I'm currently doing this to make sure we have a backup plan before making the call to cancel.
  • you got to love VM

not only have they *****d me off by taking the BB down since the 6th dec without informing anyone ( theres 4000 of us apparently )

I just rang the retentions team and was basically offered a sweet FA alternative. The guy told me which package I should get at SKY lol :rotfl:

No help, no alternatives, nothing......enjoy your temporary xmas job mr retentions...!
