At least they are calling you back, I am on my second cancellation period and still not had a call
.
If you only have two services, the Virgin Media Mates rates deal seems to be on at the moment and if you search on Google for virgin media mates rates november 2010 and you will find the offer on a number of boards with willing VM staff offering to sign people up. Current offer is £33.50 for XL TV/XL BB/XL Phone, V+ and extra V HD box.
Anon
We agreed on XL TV, M Phone, L BB, free V+ HD, free Virgin Media Hub (will replace the modem and separate wireless router we currently use), and free installation for the V+ HD and phone line.
£34.24/month on a 12 month contract so we are spending £3.74/month more than our previous contract. Hopefully we can renegotiate the cost in 12 months time
As to how I went about negotiating. I started by explaining what I was hoping for and we took it from there. I had done some market research for competing offers like BT Vision and Sky. The guy I spoke to throughout the process was friendly. He also said a letter outlining the T&C we had agreed on the phone would be sent within a week and gave me a direct line so I could get in touch with him if there were any problems0 -
Hi,
I've been with Virgin National (also called ADSL, I think) since 2008 when I moved house from a cabled to a non-cabled area. I currently get broadband and evening / weekend calls for £12.99/month.
I've been looking around at other deals to see if there is anything better, but am having a bit of trouble trying to compare. From the details I can see after logging on to the Virgin Media website I am currently on a package called Broadband Bundle 3. However, if I look at the billed charges I see the following details:
Talk Evening & Weekend£3.45Virgin Media Broadband Up To 1Mb£14.99Bundle Three Discount£-5.45
I'm a bit confused about the difference between the names of the broadband package in particular. None of these seem to match the current Virgin National broadband packages on offer. Also, I appear to be getting a download speed of around 3Mb, which roughly matches what is expected / predicted for the area I live in.
Can anyone advise me if I am still getting a good deal? Is it worth contacting Virgin to renegotiate or can I do better elsewhere?
Also, am I right in think that since I've been with Virgin since 2008 there will be no cancellation charges should I decide to move to a different provider (I realise that this would not be the case for BT line rental)?
Many thanks,
Michael0 -
I was on the following deal:
Broadband - L
Phone - M
£21.94 per month
I was out of contract for at least 6 months and have tried a few times to get the tariff reduced but no success.
2 weeks ago i gave my notice to cancel...never had a call back and called this morning to check the date the service would stop...the woman asked why i was cancelling and then launched into all the reasons why this was a bad idea, no other service was better for that price and i should consider quality of service/product before price....i stuck to my guns that i just couldn't afford it and that i could get deal with BT for same price and in future could move to cheaper provider once i had the BT line, she didn't even try and offer me a deal, just kept hammering home that i was making a mistake and would not be getting enough allowance to cover my usage..i said i would research it further but that may end up having no internet if necessary
This afternoon got a call from Virgin, don't know if the timing was a coincidence or just that i happened to be in during the daytime...said i was leaving as too expensive and he offered me the same deal at £15.94 per month and £30 credit to my account for 12 month contract...no haggling even required!:D
Very pleased with that....my advice is try and hold out for the phonecall, i was worried as rarely in to receive it, but it seems until they phone you they will not give any offers at all!0 -

I agree.
I did the same last January - no offers so put in my cancellation. I already had a BT line and O2 were doing a special offer for BB - with cashback I got it free.
Within 2 days of cancelling they were phoning me - missed the first call but took the 2nd. Evenetually settled on a deal of £13.95 and £30 credit for 10Mb BB and phone with Anytime calls.
Will be phoning in around a fortnight to cancel again. My O2 BB is also due for renewal having got it free for this last year so kept it - can probably get that for £5pm so may keep it even if Virgin offer me a similar deal on last year.0 -
I managed to get a mates rates deal;
The deal is . - THIS IS A MIN 12 MONTH CONTRACT BUT THAT IS A LIFETIME MONTHLY PRICE!!!
However if our prices rise across the board as they do with all providers you may see a slight annual increase. The deal stays at around fifty percent discount for the duration.
V+ hd tv ( recordable box )
2nd set top box for elsewhere in the house
XL tv package
20 meg broadband with free wireless N. broadband speeds are realistically 17-20 meg.
Land line Inc rental.
All for a 33.50 per month, normally 70 ish. You will need to be in a cabled area and either be a new customer or have a lesser package than listed above. This is the price throughout the contract, calls and ppv are obviously charged on top.
Pm me and I will arrange for you. It's very easy and there is no catches!!
Also bear in mind that we are launching TIVO across our platforms in December/January along with 100mb broadband along side our existing 50 mb service. Some good stuff coming!
Plus if I want movies and films its at a 50% discount.0 -
hello all
i've been with virgin for ages. my bill was 56 per month
i rang them yesterday and asked for a wireless router. they wanted to add the router charge and make my bill £58.50 a month and send me the router.
i rang back today and asked if they could a do anything with my package to reduce the price.
they reduced it to £45.24 per month . i am on
TV XL
Large Broadband
Large telephone (Talk Anytime)
free 0845 / 0870 numbers up to 250 mins
and they are sending me a wireless router for free
is this a good deal????
all comments welcome,
thanks0 -
I am surprised to read that the deals you have agreed or are considering are not as good as what I got on the 17/11/10 and they rang me(I think they were in the Retention dept.and they asked me for feedback as to why I was leaving. It would appear that VM contact you once they receive confirmation from another supplier that you actually want to leave. This kicks in a different approach and they actually adopt an offer you simply cannot refuse
I dealt with the Birmingham office. Please take a look at my previous post as the deal is there.
Here is the charge workout
Landline offer all inc VAT 11.99 (reduced to 5.99 for 12 months)
08 landline calls cost 2.00 per month(These are excellent for those 0870 and 0845 where you may not always get an alternative number on Say no to 870 website)
International calls(check the countries covered) 5.00 per month(this covers the first 250 minutes per month)there is a 1.50 package that reduces the minutes charge if you prefer that one)
XL tv package 25.00 per month
L Broadband(up to 10meg)24.50 per month
Landline calls 01,02,03 7.95 per month
This works out to 76.44.Then they deduct 5.99 for the half price line rental,21.20 & 3.00 loyalty bonus and as a goodwill gesture a further
20.24 giving a total of 26.00 per month for the next 12 months.
The telephone is 18 month increasing after 12 months.
It is advisable to contact them one month before your contract ends to give them notice if you want to leave.
You then can give them notice or maybe you could be offered a new contract.
You choose the package you want and they add the loyalty discounts and goodwill payment.
Don't accept M+ tv ask for the XL package.
GET THE DEAL PUT IN WRITING IN AN EMAIL.
State you want a new V+ box for free and YOU WILL ACCEPT A DELIVERY BY COURIER.Do not accept an engineers visit as they will put a 40 pound charge on your bill. These are easy to put in.Make sure you change over all the wires and scart in the packing box when it arrives.Really it's easy.
You must also say you want free activation with no set up costs(these are usually 49 pound). There is no V+ box monthly charge on the XL package.
Your old box will be collected by VM in one of their vans. This needs to be arranged on a particular date so get all your old leads ready as you are still responsible for the box.
Don't panic as YOU WILL HAVE YOUR EMAIL YOU GOT THEM TO SEND YOU ONCE YOU SPOKE TO THEM ON THE PHONE.DON'T AGREE THE CONTRACT UNTIL YOU GET THAT EMAIL FROM THE SAME PERSON YOU SPOKE TO.THIS CAN BE SENT WITHIN MINUTES OF YOUR CONTACT.IT GETS SENT FROM THE MANAGERS MAILBOX SIGNED BY THE ADVISOR.KEEP THAT EMAIL SAFE.IT WILL ALSO HAVE THEIR LOCAL AREA CONTACT NUMBER ON IT.
You will get a bill in a few days.Check it.My guess is it will be wrong.Get it amended straight away.
If your bill does not get amended as per contract by the office that gave you the contract. You will have been give their local number to call.If still no joy , it maybe time to contact the Chief Executives office at VM.They are very efficient and you may get a brucie bonus to boot. Then each month check you are getting the discounts applied and you are happy with the agreed sums.
Hope this all helps everyone get a cracking package.
Summary...........if you are not getting through to Birmingham office then frankly I think you are wasting your time for a great deal.
The other offices are not singing from the same hymn sheet
New customers to VM may want to consider using a Cashback website to make their purchase like Topcashback.
Clear your cookies beforehand and look at the T@C's.It's a pleasant bonus payment on top of a cracking current deal for new customers joining VM.
New customers to another supplier like SKY ,BT etc may also want to see if the site has cashback available for them.
PM me if you require further information.
I do not work for VM.Just want you to get a cracking deal.0 -

Thanks i sayoldchap - useful information.
In hindsight i should probably have held out for more when they called me yesterday...i was so staggered by the offer of £6 less per month and £30 credit that i just accepted and did not even try and get it reduced further! As Virgin had not budged an inch in previous conversations, this offer was way more than i expected..in that respect i am happy with it.
I did ask for an email confirming it and he just said as it was a new contract it would all be on this when i received it, so i accepted this, however again i should have insisted really to save any potential hassle in future as it seems some people have had a deal verbally agreed which was not the same when it came to the bill! Infact i am gonna call them tonight to ask for confirmation of the deal.
Do you get a cool off period when you agree these contracts on the phone?0
