i been with NTL / VM for 8 plus years i have their LBB for which i pay 25.00. I wanted to try and get a better deal by adding XL or L TV (V+).. they have dropped my BB from 25.00 to 20.00 for free and are offering me:
TV XL plus my current BB
£36 - first 3 months
after £42.50 -
49 one off cost
Large TV plus current BB -
35.50 12 mothts
minimum 12 months contract
what you ladies and gents think? do you think i should haggle further and get another free standard box? thing is i don't really want the HD just the abilty to pause and rewind etc

I am just out of contract with Virgin Media and after two attempts to get my bills reduced (which they didn't)I decided to set up with Sky.I only asked Sky for the unlimited broadband telephone line rental and for an extra five pound international calls,uk anytime landline calls with 0870 inc.#
I was happy to pay £26 direct debit (includes a 2.50 surcharge for not taking the TV.
Then I get a call from Virgin Media requesting some feedback on why I wanted to leave them.
I was offered all this
XL phone package unlimited calls 24/7 to all UK landline numbers
- with 250 international minutes (Italy and Spain included)
- also including free 0845 0870 numbers.
- and including line rental
* L broadband with unlimited downloads at up to 10mb of fibre optic speeds.
* XL tv package with a new V+ box.
All of this for just £26 a month this will be the price for the duration of your 12 month
contract. The phone will be on a 18 month contract and will increase by £5.99 after
the 12 month period.
The advisor said to me that Virgin Media can beat Sky deals and I had been mis informed.
Also they said there was no activation fee for the V+ BOX and no monthly charge.
I stressed I wanted to stay on the XL TV package as they may downgrade you to M+
I was also advised that this is at the new VAT rate.
You will see that I have asked the advisor to include the actual deal cost in the email so that they cannot hike up my costs during the agreed contract period.
I really hope this deal can help others if they decide to stay with Virgin Media.
Don't forget you could get cashback from (Topcashback).
I know what your thinking ........it's a brilliant deal and well worded eh!:pShocking £26 INCLUDING VAT

Yep you'll need it.
I got a deal last january which was for 12 months - I got the contract in writing (they couldn't email it apparently). Just as well as after 6 months they tried to put it up by £11.99 saying I had been give a 6 months free line rental deal. I was more or less told I was lying when I queried it.
An email to their CEO with my contract attached soon changed their mind - still waiting on an apology though as to why their rep put different notes on my account than what she had agreed with me.
Contract is due up so I will be phoning to cancel next month again - see what they try to offer this time!0 -

Hi I was paying about £46 a month before. This was consisting of the same package but without the international option.I did have the UK free calls but no 0870 0845 free.
They can do you deals. You just need to haggle hard and get it down in an email to throw back at them if there is a problem,
Can I also add that it's not just the 150 number you phone to get the deals.
I used another rate number and spoke to someone in London(I think North of London they maybe singing from a different hymn sheet)0 -
I followed the instructions on this website about obtaining cheaper broadband, and at the time (Oct 2010) settled on the Virgin Media Broadband option as we already had a line with them and it was just about the cheapest option.
I decided to go via Quidco for a cashback deal, but called Virgin Media first to confirm i wold be classed as a new customer (being named on an account from years ago).
The person i spoke to was very helpful and offered to credit my account by the same amount as i would have received in cashback from quidco, if i obtained the deal direct through them. This I did and agreed a £20 per month deal, with a £5 reduction for the first three months, free installation and and the £65 cashback.
Unfortunately, it was not until my first bill came through that i realised that in fact they were attempting to charge me for installation and had not credited my account with any cashback.
On calling back repeatedly over the last 2-3 weeks someone eventually contacted the sales team, who denied any knowledge of the agreement and confirmed that they would not be honouring theior original offer. No attempt was made to investigate my complaint and my second letter has now been copied to the ombudsman. They have now agreed that installation should huave been free and i have cancelled my account with them due to the difficulties and rude responses i have received.
This is the second time my household has cancelled Virgins services, the first time due to their abysmal record in actually providing the service.
My advice is to avoid this company like the plague.. they're struggling in the market for a reason.. if you're stuck with a Virgin line, pay to have it changed and you'll have an easier life..0 -
At present, my current packages with Virgin Media is:
BB Size M
TV Size L
Phone Size M
and it all comes to £35 a month which I'm no longer happy paying. I'm going to send them an email telling them to reduce my monthly bills by a minimum of £5 or I'm going elsewhere. Do you think they'll do it?We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

BT wouldn't have had any reason to contact them as its a completely different physical line so you could have both at the same time?0
