I must apologise that the comma key on my keyboard appears to have food underneath it hence the strange sentence structure above!
I'll have some cheese please, bob.
  • I just rang virgin today and canceled my contract as well :) I have been a customer for over 18 months while my contract was initially only for 12 months and they been increasing price by £1 every 3 months of my contract. I wanted to upgrade the broadbrand and get rid of the TV package and the deal they have on their websites these days 6 months half price I asked for that and they just said no. Offered me a price lower than my current one by only £2.00.

I just wanted to ask you guys few questions when I was leaving he said few things to me which I think he might be bluffing but he said that if you leave and try to re-join as a new customer you can't do that within 3 months because your credit check will fail even if you do it in some other persons name is that true? He also mentioned some £60 rejoining fee. I didn't see any of these figures anywhere so I am really confused now.

As an existing customer you'll never get the same offers a first time customer gets. They are a one-off incentive and you will have had some deal or other when you originally signed up. The same is probably true of many services.

There is always an installation charge with VM unless there is a special offer on. It would only be £60 for the 50Mbps product though (which is currently a free install anyway) made up of £40 install and £20 50Mbps activation. Don't ask me what activation is or why it is separate - I think it's probably some marketing BS.

I currently pay £18 for Large broadband only and have just cancelled. The first offer retentions have offered is for Large broadband for £16 or XL broadband + phone for £25.

The £25 deal would be a good saving - phone is currently £11.99 and XL is £37 - the standard £17 discount so £31.99 total.

It's a good price however i don't need the phone. My company pay for a home line therefore it would just sit unused.

I know you wont get the same deal as new customer but it is only true for few cases. Once your contract is ended that changes the whole situation. Even with mobile phones you often end up getting better deals than new customers when you are leaving them because contract ended. My contract has been ended over 6 months ago.

That is a good deal cambb. I don't use their phone line either but if you look around you will see that there are better offers when you do get the phone line and it turns out to be cheaper option even if you are not going to use it at all.

No one really answered my questions :P. Do you guys think its possible to join again as a new customer without any wait or charges if its same address but a different surname?

As to special offer right now virgin media is offering free installation worth £60. XXL broadband costs £24.80 for first 6 months and £37 something for remaining of the months including phone line.

I am paying £34 for XL broadband + phone line. They offered me £36 for XXL as a current customer with free installation worth £20.

I haven't received a call back from them yet so they might offer me something better.

We've been with Virgin for about 2.5 years and ever since adding anytime calls to our package (hence going to phone XL) we've been billed more than we were quoted. I've finally made an official complaint and got a call back from the complaints team to say that they would offer a refund and a reduced rate for the package to compensate. I took the opportunity to say that I was planning on evaluating our options in the near future as Sky have been touting for business and have a very attractive package. He said he would look into the deals that were available and said there wasn't anything available through the standard upgrades.

He said he could offer a reduction in price which took the total down to £29.50. As we cant get the unbundled sky package where we are (I'm not telling VM that ;) ) I dont think we will get anything better but wondered what people thought?

    Phone XL
    TV M (basic)
    BB M (basic)
    Total £29.50
