I did ask for an email confirming it and he just said as it was a new contract it would all be on this when i received it, so i accepted this, however again i should have insisted really to save any potential hassle in future as it seems some people have had a deal verbally agreed which was not the same when it came to the bill! Infact i am gonna call them tonight to ask for confirmation of the deal.
I asked them to email the deal they offered me last January. I was told they couldn't do that as they had no access to email! However i would receive it in writing within a few days and could cancel - this I did.Do you get a cool off period when you agree these contracts on the phone?
From what I was told - yes. When I did receive the written contract it did say i could cancel.
In my case it was just as well I did receive that - I needed it 6 months later when they tried to suggest I only had a 6 months deal.
I had to email the CEO just to get my deal honoured. It's due up soon so I will be cancelling again.
In my case they phoned me within 2 days of cancellation in January - and it wasn't because they had another provider contact them as that was not necessary as I already had a BT line.0 -
I've had emails confirming retention deals, each time it was immediate, i.e. whilst I was on the phone to them.
When they called me after my notice to cancel, there was no increased offer.
During the course of the original conversation, the inference was that because I was BB only they weren't really interested.
It stands to reason if you have TV, phone and BB, then they have 3 leverage points, especially if you're a family with fans of each service, nagging for better (more ££s) delivery.
How many times do we see posts starting "I phoned because I needed to reduce costs" ? Then continuing that they have upgraded but it is only going to cost another £5 a month.
A win for VM.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
I am impressed with people getting the call back and the cheaper deal. I am still sat waiting for the call, clearly not on their christmas card list!
I am actually having to look at the alternatives...!

Might be worth calling retentions just to innocently check your cancellation date, a previous post suggested this...i didn't get anywhere with the call in terms of an offer, but coincidently i did get the proper 'call back' a few hours later with the good offer...so you never know it may have triggered it.
Good luck! I do think the call back is the one with the decent offer so try and hold out!0 -

How long ago did you give in you notice? I gave mine in on the 14th Nov and din't hear a thing until last week. Now I'm getting a call every single day. i've asked them to put their new offer into an email and I'm still waiting...... "We've been having trouble with our email since monday" ...yeah....sure, not really a good advert for your services!
Current offer TV XL, 10meg BB, M phone and line rentail for £34, down from £41. For £1 more they would up the BB to 20Meg and throw in a second V+ HD box. I'm sick of telling them I'm not accepting any offer unless its in wiring and clearly shows 12months contracr, no installation fee and the 2nd box is a freebie.0 -

Original notice period, missed one call (spoke to Mrs Anon and was going to call back, no further calls). This notice given since before you gave your notice and no calls and not long to go.

I managed to get a mates rates deal;
The deal is . - THIS IS A MIN 12 MONTH CONTRACT BUT THAT IS A LIFETIME MONTHLY PRICE!!!
However if our prices rise across the board as they do with all providers you may see a slight annual increase. The deal stays at around fifty percent discount for the duration.
V+ hd tv ( recordable box )
2nd set top box for elsewhere in the house
XL tv package
20 meg broadband with free wireless N. broadband speeds are realistically 17-20 meg.
Land line Inc rental.
All for a 33.50 per month, normally 70 ish. You will need to be in a cabled area and either be a new customer or have a lesser package than listed above. This is the price throughout the contract, calls and ppv are obviously charged on top.
Pm me and I will arrange for you. It's very easy and there is no catches!!
Also bear in mind that we are launching TIVO across our platforms in December/January along with 100mb broadband along side our existing 50 mb service. Some good stuff coming!
Plus if I want movies and films its at a 50% discount.
I've tried to PM you back but you need to empty your inbox.

My 12 months contract has just expired so I called Virgin on Monday to see what they could do for me. I am currently on the following:-
M+ TV
2 x V+ boxes
XL Telephone
L Broadband.
They informed me that my price of £50.99 including line rental could not be imporved upon so I asked to be oput throught to cancellations.
The chap, who was very polite and helpful told me that I already was. When I explained that I had been looking around at other deals from other providers he said if I could get something better then I should take it. He even confirmd that he had put me on the 30 day notice period without me confirming that i wanted to. I thereofre left it and thought I would try again another time.
I got a call last night from a chap who was equally helpful and asked what he could do to keep me. I played hard ball for a while and he left me with some options to consider. I called back today to see what else I could get and have now agreed the following:-
XL TV
2 x V+ boxes
XL Telephone
L Broadband
£37.19 per month fixed for 18 months. I also got a £30 credit for month 1 and a new Home Hub.
I am pretty pleased with that.0 -

Thats a pretty amazing deal!
Were at that time where we have started to look around at what Sky are offering, but ideally would like to stay with Virgin because their broadband is second to none.0 -
I think it's important to give the month's notice to leave if your contract is coming to an end.Give yourself enough time to look around before you commit to what maybe an 18 month contract. This will trigger a call at sometime from their Cancellations/Retentions Dept. You are in the driving seat.Haggle.Don't accept what they want to give you as the usual deal.Add what you want.Push for the XL TV.
I got an email, personally written from the person I spoke to at Birmingham as I really don't have the confidence in waiting for a contract to arrive as VM don't always record messages on the phone or make them available to customers who ask.
My email outlines exactly what I have agreed at the time of the original call. This was not just costs but what it covered especially for duration of my contract.I really don't want to be roped in and then get increases as soon as I join.
Remember you maybe on the package the next day when your new V+ box arrives and you install it and get it activated.
You may have made international calls too.
Your actual contract does not arrive in the post until at least four days maybe longer after your phone call and whilst I appreciate there is a notice of cancellation it becomes 'hassle time 'after to sort it.If they don't send you an email beware for problems. The email will give you reassurance and hopefully less problems.
I do hope you can all get cracking deals that are now being offered by VM.
VERY IMPORTANT.
When you get your balancing bill (old bill closed and new one opens)check the credit total you get.Mine was wrong
along with the bill(told you).VM usual charging period is from 26th month so if your contract starts then then you should have nothing to worry about however mine started on the 17th(about nine days before the starting period.
They only gave me back about a pound for nine days they didn't give. They had also taken their advanced payment in the bank for the entire amount(so already charged me for the time up to 25th)
They agreed the credit should have been around 13.50 (There charges were previously 46 pound so about 1.50 day)I must say the advisors I spoke to on 150 weren't at all up with it in dealing with this. The supervisor was called and eventually understood my calculation.
Don't trust your VM bill as things may have been inputted by hand.
London Electricity (early 2000 )sent me a computerised bill that worked out our bill incorrectly. It was about 100 pound extra. This had nothing to do with estimated bills but had everything to do with 2x2 =4 but they made it 5.The advisors are not trained to look for errors in computerised bill work outs.
If you do PM for information I will only offer it if you have a fair amount of previous posts.0
