    well thanks to ISAYOLDCHAP...

    i have secured

    xl telephone
    l broadband
    free 08 nos
2 v plus boxes on the xl tariff
    free boxes
    free installation

all for £36 incl vat...... after 12 months rental goes up £6 its a 18 month deal on line rental

    Hi Foxyuk
Where you say free 08 numbers these are usually specified as 0845 or 0870 I think and billed at £1 each.
I am unsure if you are phoning other 08 numbers like 0844 or 0898 whether you are covered. You might want to check that out should you want to phone other ones.

Are you sure you have free installation. In a previous post I wrote that they tried to charge me £40 for installation even though I insisted a courier delivered the V+ box and I fitted and got it activated. At least you are on the XL TV tariff as there can be another nasty £49 charge for V+ box activation and a £5 per month extra charge

Really go through your bill when it arrives in the next few days.Any mess ups get it sorted out very quickly. It maybe a real headache to sort out especially if you get through to those nice people in India who were unable to work out a simple balance from one last bill to one new bill.My previous post highlights that headache. If it does not get done properly it's time to speak to Heather at the CEO office. She will get straight on it for you.I have the email address if you need it
  • Hi, if you see I have been in contact with the CEO's office and as you see I've been refused what I was offered few days ago. It's bad enough to be told that I won't get any calls any more about this and the equipment will be collected day after my cancellation.

    Hi DaMaster
You are now in the cancellation period now.May not be such a bad thing. This could get you a call from retentions regardless of what you were told.CEO have said there's nothing on file to say you were going to get that deal.In anycase I think you can improve what you thought you were going to get.

    My advice.
Get onto a cashback website like Topcashback and see what amount of cashback you could earn for joining Sky,Bt etc.Just clear your cookies if you decide to buy with them.
Then go for one of their deals.Ask to keep your phone number too.
As it will be a new contract you will still have the right to cancel if VM contact you over the next few days.In a ny case you may like the international £5 deal they do which covers some international countries ,UK landline calls and 0870 numbers. That's right only £5 per month.
I would move on and forget about your VM experience.
They will come to you if they want your business.
Keep your options open and search that market.

PS.I am on a mission to get your posts up to 20 by Christmas.

Did you put in your 30 days notice? Did you contact sky / another provider or did Virgin just call you back?

lol thanks, to be truthful I'm only with virgin media still because their Asian bundle is very good value for money, I have no interest in keeping the phone or broadband services, but to keep just the basic tv with the Asian bundle it will cost me £22.50 a month!
  • i have just cancelled with VM, i was paying £42pm for
    Xl TV
    M phone (eve + we)
    L BB (10mb)

phoned up to cancel and got offered
    ready.......

a free wireless (im still on wired)
and halfprice hd box (not even hd+)

oh well, i shouldnt expect to much ive only been with them for 15+yrs
  • Have been reading this thread with interest as our VM contract was up this month, and I've been horrified by the bills, however OH is loathe to give up the V+ box

Anyway armed with what I learned from here and what BT could offer me (definately let them know you know ;)) I sent a mail giving notice to quit through the customer section of their website and waited for the call...

    Have:

    TV Starter M+
    V+HD box
    BB L up to 10mb
    Talk Weekends package

    And this was costing £37.49/month

Spoke to a lady from retentions and now have all this for £24.99/month. Mentioned BT include 0870 and 0845 in their package so she agreed to this
also said the BT deal includes up to 20mb. Of course got the lecture about "check the speeds online, you get at least 8mb with VM and only 2.5mb with BT" but as I was institant she said she'd send me one of the new hubs to replace my modem and router and this should help too (would have cost £60)
From reading this thread insisted she put this in writing so have got all this on an E-mail!
New hub turned up today (thats only about 3 days!) so it seems I can trust what she said. Not bad for not much effort on my part.

so 1. Definately try for a better deal
    2. Ask them to put this in writing
    3. Be aware of what the competition can offer you
Thanks to all posters for your never ending help and support

I too have been with them for 15+ and today i phoned up to request a wireless router as my ebay one died, she told me no problem as long as i sign up contract for 12 more months!!!! Lol, i balk at that and say i derserve some customer loyatly bonus points after all these years  she doesn't budge just gives me speel about other providers speeds.

I decide to look at latest virgin media deal for new customers which is cheap as chips so ring up indignant that i want to cancel, end result is.... large broadband unlimited phone and new home hub for £23. 49 forever! ( said for 12 months at first) i have asked for this in writing, and also made him swear on his granny's life :D
