I'd also like some advice on what I 'should' be paying.
I've been with VM for years (since it was ntl). I'm not bothered about the TV as my daughter has just given me her freeview box and I hardly ever use the phone, except to phone my friend in Australia. I don't have a BT line. I was wondering about getting an internet dongle but worried about the usage limits as I'm on the internet a lot (download a lot of pdf files but not much in the way of music/films)
At the moment I have:
telephone line rental £11.99
TW 1M saving -£2.00
Talk Weekends £0.00
M+ (Starter) TV £5.50
Broadband £20.50
which comes to £35.99 per month (ebill) - too much!!
I've been guilty of apathy and just sticking with VM. Have had higher TV packages in the past but downgraded because I wasn't watching them.
Thanks
If you've been with them for years you should really be on or try to get/downgrade to the old M Tv pack which is Free.
See my post #1107 above, I was paying £19.50/month before April price rises, that's with XL Talk Unlimited phone, M Broadband, M Tv.
That's on a permanent retention deal from 2007, but you are paying too much.
I'd phone, say you are longstanding customer, are not happy with amount you are paying. Possibly say you are thinking of leaving or use this on subsequent calls if they are not cooperating, as sometimes you find someone in Retentions who willingly gives you a deal without pressure.
Ask for discount of £8-£10/month, saying they can downgrade your Tv to the free M pack (that's £5.50/month) & additional discount of £2.50-£4.50/month for broadband & phone.
I'm not sure what they are like these days on deals, but if they won't give, phone every so often to try to find someone in Retentions who will cooperate & give you a retention deal.

Why are you on M+ Tv at £5.50/month ??

Thank you for your help.
I thought I was on the basic pack for TV. It's only been now when I've been giving my finances an overhaul, that I've actually looked at the bill. Just not sure what the alternatives are if I threaten to leave them then have to go ahead with it.0 -
VM have got more expensive over the past couple of years for my needs. We just have 2MB broadband (no phone) & used to pay something like £7/£8 per month. This changed to £10 last year & now it's up to £14. Just called retentions & they can't offer me anything cheaper, even going up to 10MB would be £18.
i dont like this boat i'm on when it was so much cheaper in the past! Anyone got any experience or ideas on what options i have? Pretty much every competitor out there would require me to have a BT line which I dont have a need for... (another uneccessary expense)....
Have i missed a trick somewhere?:think:0 -
You could see if you can share a wireless connection with a neighbour halving your costs. or possibly getting a mobile dongle if your not a frequent user.0

Need your thoughts on this. I have been with Virgin Media for many many years prev with NTL and before that diamond cable so prob around 15+ years. I am currently on the M package and have noticed just recently prices have risen
Taken from my April Bill
£11.99 - Line Retal. Use to be £11.00 (pre-April 2010)
£7.95 - Talk Unlimited
£0.00 - TV Size M (Free)
£20.50 - Broadband Size M. Use to be £19.50 (pre-April 2010)
I then get a Loyalty Pack Discount applied for £18.46 as I have the M bundle. (Use to be £19.46 - pre April 2010)
The toal which results in a Virigin M pack at £20.50. Is this the best deal I can get. I really want to get a V+ box - we currently have a Vigin Box. I also want to get kids tv as we are baby sitting more and more for our grandchildren and wouldn't mind get the bollywood pack.
I don't even know my TV pin and only tonight discovered Virgin offered Catch Up TV for free as I read through the forums.
Am I doing well or should we move to Sky. We have been very loyal but somewhat feel slightly taken advantage of in recent months esp. with the additional features now available.
Thanks in advance0 -
I just phoned to see if I could get a better deal.
Currently pay 24.49 for Broadband 10mb, tv M (47channels) Phone M Free weekend calls to landlines.
I've come away paying more having been convinced I was already on a good deal another so 4.50 to upgrade to xl phone, free calls day night and weekend, should help my phonebill overall (I think it is normally 7.95 for XL Phone)
So now I pay 28.94 for
Broadband L
TV M
Phone XL
I also ordered N router for just 4.99 P&P
Reading the other posts this seems fairly reasonable?0 -
The deal im on is 50mb broadband(xxl),tv(m),and phone(xl) which is unlimited landlines anytime.
The total cost for this deal is £28 PER MONTH for 12 months deal.
I know individual prices are higher but this was offered to me, and i have been on this since September 2009 and my bills since have never been over £28 each month.
hope this helps.

You are on exactly same deal as me (Line+Phone size XL, TV size M, Broadband size M), my discount has also just gone down from £19.46 to £18.46.
How did you get your £18.46/£19.46 discount & when ??
I'd be surprised you had that discount unless you phoned in past (few years ago) saying you had a problem with pricing/service & asked for discount, is that the case ??
I'm on a permanent retention deal from early 2007 when Virgin Media were giving out permanent retention deals when Sky pulled their channels, I phoned in to get a deal.
If you change your package you may lose that discount & you may not get a permanent deal, if that is what you are on. I was told that I would keep my permanent deal unless i changed my package.
I think it's a pretty good price we are paying, even after recent price increases & reduced discount. I'm not sure you're going to get that deal or get a permanent retention deal if you change your package. I don't think Sky do deals & make sure you compare like with like, cable versus telphone line broadband performance.

Hi all
I am currently on the following deal - tv xl plus sky sports, broadband l, phone xl and paying £52.50.
My contract is coming to end soon and wondering if I might be able to get these cheaper although would be happy to continue paying what I am at the moment.
Thank you all.0
