to get a better deal am i pretty much FORCED to phone up and just say "i wanna cancel?"

Worked for me and others, but make sure you have a back up plan, in case they drop you straight away.
Also make sure you have the facts and figures of the company you are intending to move to, even if you want to stay, it makes it more convincing.
    Move along, nothing to see.

I was paying £43 for XL tv and XL broadband. I dont watch much tv but use the internet all the time. So now I have cancelled the XL tv and moved onto XXL broadband for £37 a month (plus £20 connection fee). I also plan to get a cheap Freeview box.

Hi - I need some help if possible

    Line rental - £11.99
    Talk Unlimited - £7.95
Voicemail - £2 (should really get an answering machine - it was free up until a month of so ago)
    XL TV - £24.50
V+ Box - £0 (we paid it outright when they first came out)
    Broadband L - £25.00
    Premium Channels £27.50
    Loyalty discount - £24.00

We have been told that we have the maximum discount available but I cant help thinking that the broadband is not such a great deal - but they are not for budging. We can obviously save £2 but OH is a sports fan so we wouldnt want to lose either the XL TV or the premium channels if possible.

Any idea if there is more they can offer us? We cannot change to Sky or BT as there is no BT line into the house (the last owner had it removed) so we would have to pay a reconnection charge of £124.99 if we wanted a new line put in.

I have exactly the same virgin package as yourself (except the voicemail) with the same discount applied. I have now tried on 3 occasions to reduce my costs but every time I am told you are on the best deal already! The only way I could reduce costs would be to reduce the packages but that's far too obvious I guess. Try again soon :)

    I'm now getting:

    TV XL
    BB L
PHONE L (Talk evenings and weekends)
    2 x V+ Boxes

for £42.25 with new 12 month contract. First V+ was installed free but got charged £49 one off fee for the second. I'm happy with that and think its a great deal.

Has anyone got a good deal lately?
If you don't mind telling me that is!

I am out of contract with Virgin and want to renegotiate a cheaper/better deal.

    Currently we have

    BB - Large
    Phone - X large
TV - the lowest one you get that is free (think it is called M)

I also have a Virgin mobile on a separate contract that I would be happy to bundle in for a good deal if needs be.

Has anyone got a bargain lately?
Would be happy to upgrade either bb or maybe the TV

Oh and I am paying £33.95 pm for this.

My experience: I had landline phone (basic deal), tv basic package and broadband (10mb) for £25.50 per month (I had negotiated this down due to mistakes Virgin had made in the past).

Anyway, as I use voipstunt for all my phone calls, the TV has freeview in built and I can connect it to the PC to watch the iplayer, I just wanted broadband.

I called up on Sunday and spoke to an Indian call centre lady who said there was nothing they could offer me.

So I signed up to Plusnet for £17.49 per month (and £28 cashback via Quidco) for 6mb broadband.

Today I called Virgin to cancel and spoke to someone in England. I was told they would offer me £20.50 for the broadband. I said I still wanted to cancel.

Then they offered me £17.49 for the broadband. And I accepted and canceled with Plusnet.

So I've saved £8 a month, and the only thing I've lost for it is a tv package that I've got anyway
  • Hey guys

Looking again for a 50mb option.

XXL Broadband, XL Phone, M TV
£47 pcm cost, plus £20 activation.

Sounds like a rip-off to me, anyone else got a better deal? Any advice?

I threatened to cancel but got no better deal. I've seen a deal on quidco but I cant use it as I'm existing customer

my advice would be to call retentions to see if there is any better offer they can give you.

do it at the start of the month - that way the agent you speak to won't be watching their credit spend as much as near the end of a month
  • Thanks.

Do you know where their terms and conditions are on what state the differences between a new and existing customer?

I was thinking of cancelling my contract, and getting my brother to subscribe - as a new customer he gets it slightly cheaper at least £2 a month cheaper, making a £24 saving! Nothing but something.

Can anyone help me ? I dont want to cancel and then be with no internet lol!

    thanks guys
