Virgin Media Retention thread

  • I have been a Virgin Media customer for about 7 years now, ever since I moved into my current house. I haven't looked at my contract with them for ages, but I think I am paying too much for what I am getting...It's probably my own fault for not getting on the phone and hassling them about it.

My latest bill shows that I am paying £37/mth for the XL package - whereas on the website, this is being advertised as £20/mth (I would happily take up the advertised rate of £28/mth for the XXL - 50Mb package if offered).

Also, I barely ever use my land line - whenever I call my mum at the weekend, I use the free minutes on my mobile to do it. When I took the contract up all those years ago, there wasn't the option not to have a landline - should I be able to call them up and cancel the landline and save a further £11/m
  • Just found this thread and feel a little bit silly now! I called VM last night to cancel my contract as I'm moving home in a weeks time and they did a sales job on me...

They have offered on a 12 month contract XL phone and 10mg BB, plus free installation for £23.00pm. This price includes the line rental.

Having just read the above messages I'm wondering whether I should have tried to get it down further? I was quite pleased with that deal as its only a £6 more than the TT packages, but it comes with all calls included.

Any opinions as to what I should do? Is it a good deal?
  • Just double checked my new address and according to BT there is a line there that doesn't need connecting - so does that means I can go to whoever I want to now????

Tragically, I'm a little excited about being able to pick and choose! How sad :o)

Since calling them, our landline now only has an engaged tone - can't make or receive calls!! Done everything I can think of to "reset" it!! Nothing!!!!!!!!!

And the internet still works....barely - the speed is now worse than dial up

What on earth is going on, and could someone help please!? I'm going to have to ring them from the MOBILE (dread to think how much that'll cost) to see what the hell is going on. I'm FUMING!!

Have you tried Saynoto0870 ? They list Virgin Media customer services with...

    01752 300300

    and also

0800 9535353 (although this won't be free from a mobile, but if you have a telephone box nearby?)

There is a lot of numbers for Virgin, so just search for "Virgin Media" on here and try them: http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php
  • Can someone please explain how the whole cancelling process works please. I basically want to cancel and then back out of it when they call to offer a sensible deal.
    just call 150 for free
  • hi all. I have been with vm over 2 years phone M BB L and free TV M all for £22 a month. Last month I called VM and told them I want to cancel my services. they agree and the last date was 12.02.2010. One week before the cancellation I received a phone call from them offering me phone M +400 min anywhere BB 10 mb for £35.00. I said yes and started new contract. on 18.02.2010 i checked my bill and was £38.00 and my BB down to 2 mb so immediately i contacted them and they said I can't get BB 10 mbps and about the bill will give me a discount of 25 pounds next month. I told i want to cancel my contract and hi said they will charge me £180 if i do and told me i cant mess around with the company now i do not know what to do. very bad experience with VIRGIN Media

I am in a very similar situation to you.
I have been with Virgin Media for 7 years
    20MB £37 a month
No TV package - happy with Freeview
    Landline £11.00
    E-bill Discount £1.00
    Total £47.00
Very rarely do we make phone calls and if we do, we phone via '1899'
I have been planning to try to get a lower broadband bill, but as we don't want to leave Virgin Media I have been putting the phone call off, just incase they say 'yes, fine, ok, your account has been stopped.'
As a loyal customer for 7 years, I would expect some sort of discount to be offered.

Blimey I have the XL TV package plus broadband, phone, ebilling and all calls free to 01 and 02 numbers. My bill this month was £44. I got this when I called retentions a year or so ago.

Then wait until they phone you and see how much they will give you as a discount if you don't leave.

But do they always phone back ?

I have no idea - perhaps it depends how good a customer you are.
