How do you do the speed test?0
-
There's lots of speed tests about but I used http://resources.zdnet.co.uk/speedtest/0
-
Thanks for that: I've tried the test but I'm so dense about these things that the figures mean nothing to me! It's telling me I my speed is 474 kbps. I thought I was on 2MB broadband so I'd have expecting that to be... oh... about four times faster!
I obviously
need to look into this a bit more.0 -
That's odd. I use that speed test because it always seems to deliver a fairly accurate (and consistent) result for me.
You are right that you should be seeing 2000 kbps (or thereabouts) - that's what I'm getting on my 2MB connection.
Sorry that I can't be more helpful.0 -
Okay, phoned Virgin now. As an ex-Telewest customer we were paying £44.75 (after our previous 12 months renegotiation had ended) for:
2MB broadband
Talk Unlimited
Caller display
And around £55 per month to Sky for Sky+ including some sports and some movies.
Virgin have offered me:
2MB broadband
Talk Unlimited
Caller display
XL TV package
V+ box (with four times the capacity of my Sky+ box!) no installation charge
for £54.50. Again, a lifetime deal.
Haven't accepted yet as I need to phone Sky and see what they can do!
Hope this helps someone.0 -
thanks to reading site I managed to get my tv/phone/internet package from telewest/virginmedia reduced.
before: talk unlimited 14.00
telephone line rental 11.00
broadband size L 25.00
tv size xl 20.50
non direct debit fee 5.00
total including vat and phone call charges 75.50
now I am getting the same as above but at 35.00 a month
I could never pay the full amount in one before so thats why I hadnt set up DD but now I can and to help me do that they have cancelled the non DD fee for the next 2 months until I get 1 set up.
Waheyy Im well happy thanks MSE and members!!0 -
Currently I am having
Broadband - 2 mb (9.99)
Starter package (free)
No phone line (as I have Vonage and quite happy with that)
alas my 6 mnths running out next mnth.
Anybody got any good deal out there?
most of the deal fellow MSEs mentioned are mainly with phone.
Do they do free TV if I don't have a phone line with them.
I was casually offered 2 mb broadband and L tv for £20. this is too much for me. I am sure. Only thing is that as I moved house 5 mnths ago I am bound to 12 mnth contract so I can't strech them much.
Any suggestion welcome
Happy money saving
I cna ytpe 2000 wrods per nimute0 -
So I finally got up the courage to phone virgin this evening. I had been paying:
broadband M £18
Phone M +TV L £22.50
TV XL - £9
Calls - around £10
Got it down to:
Broadband M £10 (offered XL for £17.50)
TV XL £10.75
Telephone M £11
:T
Very pleased with this, since most calls are at weekends we'll save around £20 a month. Feel I more or less got the 3 for £30 but with XL TV in for an extra £1.75. Might have done a bit better if I'd been willing to pay a bit more but main aim this time was to get costs down. Deal lasts for 6 months. Thanks again everyone.
Also my extra bit of advice, he was really reluctant to talk about bottom line prices, kept talking first about service till I said v clearly that price was my key factor. Had to hammer this a bit. Also I had to do a bit of adding and going back over figures, kind of think he was trying to make it confusing. Have a pen and paper or calculator handy0 -
After my brother got a new package with Virgin Media I decided to give it a try yesterday.
We did have the following with NTL:
2mb B/B
Phone (no free calls)
Standard TV and 4 'packs' (very old!!!)
Sports channels
All of this was costings us £67 a month. Was really tempted to move to Sky+ as the GF wants to series link stuff eventually.
So got onto Virgin yesterday and spoke with a nice bloke in Rententions called Carlo who did me the following deal for life and I wasn't resigned to Virgin for the year minimum that you get if you choose the new V+ box (we wanted the choice to be able to move if Virgin isn't as good as they say it will be!)
So we now have
Broadband M (2 mb as we did have)
XL TV
M Phone (both have free calls on mobiles for eves...)
Sports package
All for £47.50 so saving a massive £19.50 a month.
So we are getting a 3 for £30 bundle but the XL tv (it's normally only L) and then Sports for £17.50 (which they quote on virginmedia.com as £26)
1 hour lunch well spent I think!!!!0 -
My deal (NTL) which I got last year ran( around the 20's of this thread) out recently so gave them a ring the other day on the retention line 08000529403 now answers as virgin media. I just said to them can you do something for me, he said "you have just had a half price deal on your B/B raun out" yeah. He said "I can do you a long term deal for £9.99" Ok I'll take that. Still getting the phone line for half price.0
