    Hmm, ourbill is

    Phone = £11.00
    Broadband = £17.99 for 2mb unlimited
Phone usage is only about £2.00 a month

    Total is about £31.00

I seen Sky do tv,net, phone for £26.00 a month. So if the Prices do go up even more then i'm not going to stick with them. It all comes down the same line doesn't it I bet they get free telephone. NTL is poo. In the beginning line rental was £4.95!. How does it cost £11.00...... it doesnt cost ntl anything for a piece of cable yet we have to pay £11.00 everymonth again and again and again for the damn thing!!. GRRRR

    £11 = unlimited uk landlines
    £16.XX = 4mb broadband (unlimited of course):j

Got my monthly bill from TW yesterday and all offers I had where taken off. I called the retention dept. ON hold for 25mins to get through. Spoken with some person for 30mins and got the following deal

    Talk unlimited
Supreme TV Xl - Plus 1 additional Box
    10mb Broadband xl
    Caller display and Call barring

Bill will be £54.00 Monthly, They advised me that is for good and will not change. He went on to say the Virgin want to reward customers who have more services. I asked why the hell they charging so much and then offering such large discounts? Why not just offer all customers lower prices. He advise he could not answer.

But was quick to advise any offers they make are no longer for 3mths, 6mths but are for life or until we leave.

Last September I got 10mb broadband half price for a year, or so I thought. When I checked my statement a couple weeks ago I was charged full price for the latest month.

I phoned to query and was told the offers work for a 3 month period only. However, the guy said he will put a notice on my account to automatically roll the offer over at the end of the next 3 months.

I was not offered any form of refund for the extra I was charged. So I asked about that and was told this would be refunded on the next payment (will cancel out the next payment).

This isn't the first time this has happened to me, so double check.

Not sure this is the correct place but hopefully someone can help - after consumer advise as much as anything just to make sure I'm entitled to do what I've done!

    I'll try and be a brief as possible;
Bought new house in Dec, tried to sign up online for telewest at 2 for £20 with £10 online discount. Not possible as previous owner hadn't cancelled.

Phoned on Dec 30th and was given the all clear to order - I advised I wanted to do this online as the online discount was now £20, told that they could apply that over the phone so I gave all my details and they charged me £25 (which didn't appear on online quote) and said it'd be credited to my account.

1st bill arrived and contained the following - Service Charges £46.99, Credit £25. Amount due £21.99

I queried this (via online form) asking about the £20 discount, what the 'Service Charges' were and why the total is £21.99 when I'm on a 2 for £20 bundle.

The response said that there was no such online discount of £20, my bundle hadn't been entered correctly and would be amended and there was no mention of the £46.99. To this I replied including a link showing the £20 discount still available and re-itterated my query on the service charges.

All of the above took place on Jan 26th. I've since had no reply and sent (via website) the same questions on Feb 1st and again yesterday, each time including the text from my previous submissions. In the 1st (on the 26th) I stated that without satisfactory response I would cancel the direct debit and they could contact me to arrange collection of the box and modem.

The estimated date on the bill for them to take the 'amount due' was today so I've just cancelled the DD.

I guess my question here is twofold - anyone been in a similar situation and am I within my rights to cancel the DD?

(sorry, not as brief as intended!!)
  • Hi, I have just been to the phone box to try to get a reduction on my bill. Currently, I pay £17.99 per month, but used to pay £9.99 a month until 3 months ago.

I didn't directly ask for a discount, I just enquired how long disconnection notice I needed to give as I was thinking of switching providers as I thought £17.99 was expensive, especially seeing as my broadband has been off alot quite recently due to local faults.

She just said it's 30 days, but I can disconnect you now if you want, she didn't try to keep my custom by offering me a reduced rate.

I think I need to be a bit more direct and ask for discount, could anyone advise what I need to say?

Did you ring the retentions number? It is mentioned several times in this thread.

  • Hi money savers.

are you paying £17.99 a month for 2 meg broadband on NTL and Telewest, want to cut it down to £10.00 a month.?

I'ts easy give them a call and either tell them you can't afford it or you have seen a better deal.

to keep you they will reduce the $17.99 a month to just a £10.00 for 6 months, then in 6 months time tell them you really want to cancel and they will do the same deal all over again. thus saving you £95.00 a year for a 2meg broadband, where else can you get unlimted 2 meg broadband for £10.00

    Try it! it really works.
when you do let everyone know.

I have and all my family have to.
  • Hi all :)

    Just got a fab deal...

I have these already with NTL/ now Virgin media :
Talkunlimited 24 (landline calls, anytime of day upto 1 hr) = £25
Broadband 2 mb, which is fine for us (normal price £18,currently on a deal for until April) = £9.99

In total I'm currently paying £35, that's until April then it goes up to £43 when broad band ends.

Well, I've been reading all the threads regrading the deals with tv/ broadband/ landline, and like a others decided to give NTL/Virgin Media a call. However, after a call to them every evening for the past week hoping to speak to someone nice :) (if you know what I mean) I still never got anywhere near a deal, or a nice little reduction. That was until about 45 minutes ago :)

Yep, came up trumps....Thanks to this webiste, and a double checking first on the vodaphone website for proof. And went in for the kill... Hubby went upstairs, he couldn't listen :) ( Chicken) I dialled 150 and waited, pressed buttons until I heard retention, heart stopped but I made, I was finally was brave enough to do it..

I asked, as the account is in hubby's name to find out who to go about cancelling the broadband/ telephone. And was told it is 30 days notice required, ok I said I'll tell hubby

" may I ask why your hubby is thinking of cancelling " he asked.
"yep, vodaphone are doing unlimited talktime, broadband with download upto 8mb for just £25 per month. He's paying £35 at present for the same, and it'll go up in April to £43, big difference hey " i said shaking..
"No problem, he gave me the spill of virgin/ntl are now one, and straight away offered us Talkunlimited 24, 70% mobile calls from the landline phone, some sort of discount on international calls (couldnt believe what i was hearing to listen to this bit) & my 2mb broadband for just £19.95 for life"
then offered call display for £1.75. Total of £21.70 per month.

"That's deal I shouted", whilst waving like mad idiot to hubby who was hiding on the stairs!, hubby then had to ok the deal, as it was in his name.

It just shows, it's not worth speaking to sales, go straight to retention.

    regards
    justwannabeloved

so far this week cut i've managed to save £58 off car insurance renewal quote for the year.
saved £260 per year on telephone & broadband
British Gas/ Electric confirmed reduction costs as of March 12th,we will recieve a letter with next statement

Earlier tonight I got my Hubby a brand new mobile phone free ,with vodaphone tonight worth £150 , and wrangled a free 512mb memory card, and got him a 12 month contract on the same deal he has been on for years rather than an 18 month contract.

Oh my god what's come over me !! lol :rotfl:

That's a good deal, you did well.

I think you got £26/month discount on:
    -Talk Unlimited (£25), 2Mb Broadband (£18), Talk Mobile (£1.50), Talk International (£1.50)

I thought I had done well getting £16.50/month discount.

Bingo: £16.50 discount on NTL/Virgin Media
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=372436

I actually phoned up to complain about my Broadband & rearrange my package.
I think NTL have just changed to Virgin branding & have new deals.

She started throwing in offers & I wasn't ready to ask for any add-ons.
When I thought about it, I thought I'd better grabbit.

Talk Unlimited would have been useful, never thought to ask as I've never been on it (I'm on Talk Weekends).

Ps: just looked at NTL/Virgin website & seen those Talk Anywhere packages which include calls to Mobiles & International numbers.
Don't think NTL had this sort of deal.
