  • I'm on
    4mb broadband at £25.00 pm
    XL TV at £20.50 pm
cheapest basic phone at £11.00 pm

was thinking of adding another set top box. at £9.50
which would equal £66.00 per month.
None of their deals give me what I want, whaddya reckon the chances of me getting this £66 reduced any are?
Especially as I have been a customer since day one of Telewest.

    hi
I was so inspired by justwannabeloved that i called t/west{virgin media} the deal i had was £18p/m 2mb b/b,£11p/m line rental,£5.50even.&w/ends £34.50p/m in total.Using the the same tactics quoting vodafone deal got it reduced down to £18.45p/m and coming out with a improved package which now consists of talk unlimited, incl.of line rental, cheaper calls to mobiles and very same 2mb b/b.Well as you may imagine feeling pretty good about my super haggling skills, many thanks minnie125.

    Hi minnie125

Well done, and good for you on saving some money. Since my last posting, I've had some trouble haggling a better deal with Sky... I was feeling brave at the weekend :) .

After speaking to different people, in different departments, and cutiing cut off a couple of times, I got so fed up I went to retentions, told them how I'd been from pillar to post on the phone with them and different price etc ( one adviser offered me sky + for £49, and otherone said £99 + £60 installation), and that I wanted to cancel as I wanted to go to virgin v+ deal, as I never got this level of bad service from them.. A calm softy spoken scottish gentleman, said that he could convince me to stay with them, if he could only put me on hold... A few minutes later he offered me sky + for FREE, with FREE installation within the week. It's being installed this Friday..

Ok, I have changed my family package to the movies package and will now pay £37, instead of £21 (bare in mind I've saved with my fab deal with virgin that will cover this cost)- however I have read on this site somwhere that sky will be scrapping the £10 charge for sky + soon.. then I can go back to my family package for £21 and will have still had a free sky + box and free installation. Then I'll will see my saving's again.

    regards

  • After reading this thread, I called NTL today to negotiate a reduction in my bill - Line rental, 2MB broadband and XL TV was £49.50 p/mth. The first few offers were poor, so I told them I was leaving for Sky and they put me through to the Retentions Dept. who immediately offered me the same package with Talk Unlimited added (worth £25 p/mth) for £34.95! I wish I'd called them months ago! I would urge everyone who hasn't tried it yet to do the same.
  • Has anyone tried to get a price reudction in their first month?

I've only had Virgin Media for a month now and I'm paying £40 for Talk Eve & Wkends, 2mb broadband and L TV package.

I've had a look through quite a lot of this thread but the impression I get is that it's only for customers who've had their services for quite some time....

Thought I see what advice I could get though. ;)

Yes, I did this, I've been with them for about a month and a half. I had signed up to NTL and they had the same deal cheaper on the website now. I phoned and they gave me a price cheaper than the website one, upgraded my phone package to give free calls 24 hrs a day and added an international call thingy (quite what this is I don't know, but hey).

I phoned retentions, if that helps, as they are usually easier to talk to. Oh, and they credited me for a wireless router (bought online from them whilst I was on the phone, credited back to my bill). :D Always worth a shot, the worse thing they can say is no.

And I got straight through without being on hold at any point which in itself was a miracle to end all miracles :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

  • If I've only got NTL's internet, am I likely to get a deal still? I don't want the phone line and I use Sky for the tele but I'd like to pay less than £24.99 pm for my broadband now. I've been with them for years so I could use a deal.

    Is it worth phoning?

Yes definitely, phone retentions 0800 0529403 and the going rate for 2MB BB is £9.99. Obviously more for higher speeds.
