Ok I finally pluck up the courage to call retentions. The lady was very helpful and not to difficult to strike a deal with. I mentioned talktalk's offer and she pointed me to a website called http://www.samknows.com/broadband/ which checks how close to the 8mb speed I would be likely to get. I told her I didn't currently have a BT phone line and that my internet access was currently down so the website was useless.
She then offered me 10mb (which i'm currently on) for £17.50 a month for the next 3 months. I tried to get her to go up to 6months but she said she couldn't because of the new pricing structure coming out in February. I told her that this was just not good enough and she started the disconnection process, at which point I backed down and told her I would take the 3months offer and ring back once I had seen the new pricing structure.
It will be interesting to see what prices come in feb.0 -

I realise that but they are still getting virtually the same amount of money from the OP every month and it's not costing them any more, when the OP could have got the 2MB for £9.99 or less! i.e. saving at least 50%. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

FACT - you have increased your speed to UP TO 10 MB but you are still paying £17.50 per month, which is a real saving of only 49 pence per month!
:wall:
FACT - this is a money saving forum, not a forum for speed freaks and you have a lot to learn yet because you have fallen for their sales patter and have actually saved very little money!

I am an NTL customer of long standing, paying £24.99 per month internet only, not sure what speed I get for that but I am happy with the service.
Sky have sent me an e-mail ( I pay about £42pm Sky TV, Sports etc) saying I can now get the broadband Base £0pm, Mid £5pm and Max £10pm, £40 activation fee.
This caused me to look at NTLs web site and they have some great offers to newbies which close 31st January.
Any forum members suggest the company and package I should go for?
FWIW I have my telephone with BT.

Look at your invoice to find out what speed you are currently happy with, see what they are offering it for on their website and ring retentions 08000529403 to haggle. You can normally get the packages for half the normal price. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Thanks for the retentions number, just as a matter of interest Sky has a 40Gb monthly usage allowance on the Mid package.
I guess I use the internet 3hours per day= 90 hours per month, would that be under 40gb per month?
I do not do much with photos, videos etc
I think my download speed is now 4Mb.0 -

A usage allowance of 40GB per month is quite a lot however it depends what you actually do while online. The best thing is to measure your current usage for yourself to predict future usage. see this thread. Obviously the faster your connection speed, the more you can do in a given time online. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
