I have been with them for about 2 years on BB(£25)+ TV(£5)+Phone (£11), paying £40/mth.
Called today to get this reduced unfortunately they were quite happy to loose my custom , best offer was £35 /mth.
Would be grateful for any ideas.
    Cheers.

Not so sure about moving to Talk-talk as they have very bad reviews.

Dont know exactly what yopur package is so cant say exactly but it looks like you dont have a premium tv package. You might be able to get more for the same amount and that might suit you.

Unless you go to disconnections and tell them what you could get elswhere and invite them to match it they may well assume that you are just trying it on.

As far as I can tell the best basic package alternative is BT phone £11
Sky mix (2 choices - look on sky website for details of what is included becuase you might be asked)
plus 10meg broadband from Sky £10 (be aware that they will tell you that sky can only give you 3 meg or less in your area so you can check this also with sky before calling).

At the very least I would hope that you can get movies or sport or a family package on top of the basic service.

    Be prepared and perservere.

    Good luck

  • Thanks ooro,
This is a bundled package with
    4Mb broadband
    basic Tv
    line rental with weekend package.

I did try to disconnect and they were quite happy about it !
Unfortunatley it's not an option to use SKY as I live in a flat.

Guess I will go back to BT and use plusnet for broadband.
    Cheers,

Not always impossible to get sky in a flat - should be possible to but a dish on the roof or the side of the building. Check with sky - personally I wouldnt want a dish on my house so prefer cable anyway but wouldnt let that stop you from negotiating with NTL on the basis of the alternatives. If nothing else I'd look for movies or sport or some other premium tv package for the same price becuase Sky would give you that! also 3 months half price from sky at the moment so I'd ask ofr them to match that too.

If you really only want a basic tv package then the alternative is a digi bx (around £20 and no monthly payments with freeview). Film 4 is now on freeview so a good selection of movies each week! You might be better off looking at a digi box and BT line rental with broadband from BT (or virtually anyone who will do it over the phoneline).

Maybe leaving is your best bet....

  • I have the following package from NTL:

    Family Pack TV
    Sky Movies Collection
    4mb BB
    Talk Unlimited 24

On the phone to them this morning and they have reduced my bill to £50 all in per month for the next 6 months and cancelled the £4 non DD charge.

Would you consider this a good deal or could I do better. Any thoughts, thanks.

  • Am new to the forum and need some help
With the new cost increases scheduled for February I will be paying Telewest £62.50 per month for 4mb broadband (usually get 3mb); free evening and weekend calls and their supreme (nothing special) TV package.
I would like to continue with the above but add sky sports and movies but am currently being quoted ££££££££.
Have spoken to Telewest customer services and stated that I intend to canel and move to Tiscali & Sky and they have told me to contact their customer relations department who may be able to encourage me to stay (have been with them for 8 years).
Can anyone give me some advice regarding what I should be paying.

Cheers & have a good new year

You don't have to quote current offers. All you do is phone this number

The people on the phone are all quite used to offering cheaper packages to anyone who phones. I was honest and straight to the point

"I am unhappy with the cost of my ntl services, what can you do for me?"

They might say "I can give you BB 4mb for 12.50 month"
A lot of people will just take the 1st offer but I asked him the prices of the 10 mb BB and the 2mb BB, He told me the best he could do for each one and I settled for 2mb (which was 1mb at the time) for 9.99 month (saving an extra 2.50).

I then asked him what can you do for my line rental costs? He said he had nothing to offer me in that area. But I did some moaning about the cost of line rental and he eventually gave me a half price line rental for 3 months.

After 3 months my line rental went up again, and I didn't phone them back until last week when my BB offer for 6 months was due to expire.

This time they renewed the 9.99 BB and asked if I wanted the line rental renewed aswell. Of course I did.

I have now had my bill and the discounts are showing I have been given the same offer 9.99 for 6 months, 1/2 line rental for 3 months.

Interesting to see Dipak's post above. Same as me almost so the half price line rental (or 6 pounds in Dipak's case) is a real possibility if you push for it.

Dipak, How long is your BB offer for and your line rental offer, mine are 6 mths & 3 mths respectively. This time I think I will phone again after 3 mths and get the line rental renewed.

Just off the phone to NTL as my 3 months discount ran out....used the number you supplied and asked if they would extend my discount as promised when I originally phoned.....They did :rotfl: :-
    current rate £90 ish
    new rat £30 ish...for 6 months........YAY

This is what I was paying for 3 NTL services -

    Broadband -10mb - £34.99
    Tv - Base Pack - £22.50
    Telephone - Talk 24 £14.00
    Line Rental - £11.00
    £82.49

Now for Only £32.26 a month

    10 mb Broadband
Talk 24 Telephone service with mobile phone discount (add on) and free answering service.
    NTL Free View.
    £50 towards a wireless router

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.
  • I've just come off the phone to telewest (after a 30 min wait). I've been with them for 1 year now and get their 2meg braodband for £14.99 a month. After reading how many people got their bill reduced I thought I'd give it a go!

Unfortunately they did not budge...they seemed quite happy for me to leave them, and their advisor was quite rude!!!

I have an orange mobile phone and am now thinking of moving over to them. I'm an average user so do any of you guys think their 2gb cap will be sufficient for me?

Also any sugestions on which braodband I should go for would be much appreciated :)
