Was paying £33 for basic tv,telephone, call minder and broadband - this included bb at 14.99 instead of 17.99 for six months. Negotiatated, free tv (same as freeview which suits me very well) free callminder, telephone with free weekend local and national calls = £20.99 was told to ring back in January as they are changing their packages to include more free telephone calls. - put a note in my diary!

Phoned today following a kick up the bum to do so from Edinburghlass (thanks!!)

Was paying £46 for 2mb bband, base tv (which is one up from the free one), and phone with talk unlimited 24 plus itemised billing.

I'm now paying £31 for the same. 12 months offer, but no tie in so I can change or leave when I like.

  • In reply to gk172, you should be able to get a better deal. You are basically on the same deal as I was. I was paying £80, and got it down to £55.50 (I think).
You need to do some research and find out what it would cost with Sky (or sky plus talk-talk or whatever).
If you phone 150, don't bother with the first guy; get them to put you through to retentions, or customer relations. Say you want to leave. When you get though to the next person, tell them how much the best deal would be, and say you're happy to stay if they match it.
Don't quote a silly low price, as they have the internet too and will check!
Anyway, if you keep pushing you should be able to get a decent reduction. If they call your bluff and say "sorry, no can do" you can make some excuse about arranging the connection with Sky first and you'll ring back later to get disconnected.
You will have to put up with them giving you scare stories about using ADSL bb rather than cable, and that you lose the satellite signal in bad weather, bla-bla-bla.
You don't need to mention the bt line was taken out!

If you want I posted more details about my deal earlier in this thread. Despite being an IT professional, I haven't worked out how to link to this post, and I can't get any smileys or clever stuff to work!

Thanks;) They wouldnt put me through to the person i originally spoke to and who agreed the 12 month deal even though i have name and extension number:mad: and yesterday vai the post i got an offer from sky through and rough tally - 4 packages £18 3months 1/2 price, broadband free (set up fee £40) bt line rental £11 and sky unlimited calls £5 which telewest wanted a heck of a lot more so on principal and fed up with telewest thinking of jumping to sky as even if i opt for the multiroom subscription i will be saving £200 less any set up fees. Need to really check make sure everything adds up first.

PS Now they wont talk to me till hubby re autherises me to deal with account.
The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Having been a customer of NTL for sometime and paying £34.49 for Analogue TV, B/Band and phone decided in July to go for the 3 for £30 offer, digital TV, phone (free 01,02 calls at weekend and Broadband,) rang NTL and engineer installed new Digital box on 31 July.
When first bill received after 31 July it appeared I had overpaid by £6.52 but as NTLs accounting system seems to start in the middle of the month assumed, quite wrongly as it turned out, that everything was in order.
However, after returning from holiday last weekend found the September Bill did not include the offer of 3 for £30 plus phone calls but Digital Base Pack & Phone £22.50 plus B/Band 2MB at £17.99. totalling £40.49 plus phone calls.
Rang NTL on Monday 2 October to claim a rebate on both August & September Bills totalling £20.51 but was told that it was MY ERROR as I should have notified NTL in August that the bill was incorrect!!. It would appear that for the first month you receive a Free Family Pack but then it is up to you, the Customer, to ring NTL and inform them that you want the Select Pack.
Despite all arguments NTL refused point blank to refund any monies stating all they would do was to change my contract to the Select Pack from Monday 2 October.
As it seems that I signed up for a 12 month contract in July, without receiving anything in writing, are NTL, by charging me for the wrong package in September breaking my terms of contact re 3 for £30.
Has anyone else experienced these problems and is there any way I can either (1) break this contract with NTL,(2) obtain a better deal and get my overpayment back (Do not want too much!!)
An update of my problem. Wrote to Steve Stewart, Managing Director,Customer Care, NTL at Hook, result phone call this morning agreeing that I had overpaid and that the amount overpaid, plus £10 for my inconvenience would credited to my November Account.
So much for the previous person in NTL who told me it was my error and that I would not obtain a rebate from anyone in NTL!
  • Has anybody been able to get the telewest 10mb bb for half price for any amount of time?
  • Hi guys, I’ve just come off the phone with virgin and as a NTL Customer I've ordered 2 phones for £10 each per month. I know you can get better cash back deals but for £10 per month you get 300mins & 300 texts which is still a good deal especially as it’s guaranteed because we all know the pitfalls of cash back offers. Adding to that, there is no tie in period so basically after 1 month you can cancel at any time. If you’re also prepared to haggle for your overall NTL package there are some good deals to be had. At the moment I’ve got the following

    2Meg Broadband
Phone line rental with free weekend calls
    Basic digital TV package
    2 x Mobile phones with 2 x 300 mins cross network calls & 2 x 300 texts (total 600mins and 600 texts)

The cost to me is £41

Following my phone call to NTL yesterday, I thought I ought to make people aware. Seeing some other postings, I decided to try and get a better deal for my broadband. I'm on 2MB @ 24.99 a month and have been a customer for 2 years. I phoned, mentioned Tiscali equivalent is £17.99 and got 3MB @ £17.50 for 3 months. I explained that in 3 months I'll be in the same situation, so why should I stay? The lady explained that this is the best offer she can do at the moment - the offers change and to ring back in 3 months. So basically, if you ring every 3 months you can get the better deal all the time - the lady confirmed this with me. £17.50 for 3 MB of broadband is very good. I think it's £37 a month normally. I don't mind ringing every 3 months if I can get this sort of deal. Thought this might be useful for others.

Sure the lovely sales people will say what you want to hear - that is why its not in writing. Sure you'll get another great deal in 3 months time but it won't be open to existing subscribers - I just phoned them and asked. :-(
