Having been a customer of NTL for sometime and paying £34.49 for Analogue TV, B/Band and phone decided in July to go for the 3 for £30 offer, digital TV, phone (free 01,02 calls at weekend and Broadband,) rang NTL and engineer installed new Digital box on 31 July.
When first bill received after 31 July it appeared I had overpaid by £6.52 but as NTLs accounting system seems to start in the middle of the month assumed, quite wrongly as it turned out, that everything was in order.
However, after returning from holiday last weekend found the September Bill did not include the offer of 3 for £30 plus phone calls but Digital Base Pack & Phone £22.50 plus B/Band 2MB at £17.99. totalling £40.49 plus phone calls.
Rang NTL on Monday 2 October to claim a rebate on both August & September Bills totalling £20.51 but was told that it was MY ERROR as I should have notified NTL in August that the bill was incorrect!!. It would appear that for the first month you receive a Free Family Pack but then it is up to you, the Customer, to ring NTL and inform them that you want the Select Pack.
Despite all arguments NTL refused point blank to refund any monies stating all they would do was to change my contract to the Select Pack from Monday 2 October.
As it seems that I signed up for a 12 month contract in July, without receiving anything in writing, are NTL, by charging me for the wrong package in September breaking my terms of contact re 3 for £30.
Has anyone else experienced these problems and is there any way I can either (1) break this contract with NTL,(2) obtain a better deal and get my overpayment back (Do not want too much!!)

NTL are taking the p**s now.

have been with them for approx 5 years and no complaints. That is till 4 months ago. I rang them to cancel my broadband hoping that they will reduce it to £9-99 which they did. The first bill was for £9-99 great. The second bill £17-99. Rang them up. They will refund the difference which they did. They also mentioned that they can only offer the £9-99 for 6 months and not 12 as initally stated. Ok will worry about that when the 6th month passes. The next bill was again £17-99. Rang them up and they said they will refund and put the offer on so that my next bill will show the right amount. Guess what, received the bill today for, yep £17.99

true i can ring them up on their freephone number but it is the time involved that cheeses me off
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D
  • i rang them up about 4 months ago and got given the 6 months 1mg broadband for £9.99.
i haven't been charged a thing since! did start getting worried though that they might hit me for it all at once.

then our service got cut off last week and i rang them and she said that it was a local issue and that my account was actually in credit by a few pounds and that my current discount was 6 months for free :D

    nice!
  • I've just got off the phone with Telewest. I am paying £80 pm to them, and thought this was more than a little high. Breakdown is:
£11 for phone (almost never used)
    £25 for BB
£44 for TV (Supreme + Sky Sports and Movies)

I had checked out the deals with Sky, and was all set to switch to them. I could get the full TV, 16meg BB + phone for £58.50 (£36.75 for 1st 3 months).

When I spoke to the first customer sevices guy, he wanted details of the package I was looking to switch to. All he could offer me was to reduce my tv package and broadband speed, which cut a few pounds only. He also went on at great length about how secure the cable network was, but if i used Sky (BT line) I could get infected with a premium-rate dialler virus that could cost me hundreds of pounds. Plus plenty of other reasons why Telewest was great and Sky were terrible (I don't remember the details).

Needless to say, this offer was not very attractive, so I phoned Customer Relations.

They also wanted details of the package I was going to switch to, and then put me on hold while they checked the details on the Sky website. They did come up with a completely bogus statement abount the Sky BB, that I could only use this package for 2 hours per week! I then quoted the details from the Sky T&Cs to dispel that. Anyway, I did get an offer of half-price TV for 3 months. I pushed for some more, and they "suddenly" noticed I had the phone with them as well and offered 6 months half price BB. This brought the price down to £55.50 per month (for 3 months at least), and a suggestion to ring back in 3 months to get another deal.

Although this is more than the intro price from Sky, it's about the same as the regular price (and it saves me the hassle of switching everything), so I've accepted. It's a saving of £24.50 per month, so if I can manage to get it indefinitely that'll be £294 a year.

    I have with Telewest

    Phone rental 11.00
    Evenings and weekends 5.50
Access TV package (very basic) £9.00
    Broadband complete 25.00

    Total 50.50

Do you think they would let me upgrade to Essential + sky sports and movies for the same as what I pay now?

I think they will match the price of Sky plus BT line. They should either give you a decent reduction on what you pay now - for comparison with sky for a very basic phone TV and broadband package at £36 see my post above sports and movies does add a bit to the package.

Sky are offereing 3 months at half price at the moment so it is worth trying to get an extra discount for a couple of months to match it.

Have the sky deal details in front of you when you phone and they wont be in much of a position to argue.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I phoned earlier but my phone line went down during the conversation and they are closed now!

I managed to get the essential package plus sky sports & movies, same phone package and 2 meg broadband (currently on 4meg). Didnt think that was too bad?

  • My telewest bill has come today and it's gone up again. now paying
    £11 line rental
    £5.50 talk evening and weekend
    Essential tv 11.50
    Broadband 17.99
    Total 44.99
Have looked on their site and they are offering 3 for £30, which is all of above but with talk weekends only (really needed the evening and weekend as mum is getting on and on her own like to speak to her most evenings to see she 's ok). Have been with them for 3 years is it worth phoning and seeing what they can offer? What num ber do I phone anyone know?

    thanks

Dial 150 which is free. Definitely worth phoning, just say you'd like to negotiate a better deal as you're considering changing companies.
