Sign up to it and get it installed first, then phone them and tell them your not happy with it, you'll be in a better bargaining position then as they've already paid to install it for you.
This is what I did, started with 1meg for £17.99, and within the first few days called up and managed to get half price 10meg at £17.50 for 12 months.
You could see if you could get half price 1meg so it would be £8.99.0 -
I have just renegotiated with NTL again, and here's the deal I now get.
TV Digital Base Pack
Telephone (5p talk plan) - myself and missus have ~1200 minutes on mobiles
Unlimited 4Mb BB
Total cost to me should be £47.49
I now pay £20.35 p/m
I'm hoping to get this down again in 2 months, when I have to ring back.0 -
Just got my bill reduced from £17.99 broadband to £9.99 for 6 months.
Also now have free weekend calls included in my £11.00 bill which I did not previously as my other half had been paying the bill using bank giro credit - which also had a £4 penalty per month so...1 call just saved me £12.00 per month...when I check next bill I will also get the virgin offer added if I can as it will replace my current £10 pay as you go with virgin... seem like a great deal to me
Many thanks to all you money saving experts and please anyone reading this who doesn't think it would work for them give it a go...I used the freephone no. 0800 052 9403 and had to hold for 7 minutes but the lady who dealt with me was lovely and offered me the £9.99 before I even had to ask...:T :T0 -
Took the plunge and phoned NTL.
Previously paying £81.99 per month for
1 family plus sports and movies £55.00
1 unlimited 4 mb £24.99
1 talk unlimited local plan £2.00
I quoted the 6 months half price sky deal and free broadband up to 2 mb. They knew all about it and after some bartering I now pay £55.25 per month less five monthly credits of £20 each i.e matching the Sky deal.
The phone is also upgraded to unlimited (not just local) - effectively free calls (providing you avoid mobiles). Yes, the broadband is supposed to be down from 4 to 2, but guess what - done speed tests and they have not changed it - still getting 4mb!
The Virgin mobile offer is now on too -£10 per month sounds good to me - only drawback Virgin use T-mobile servers , so not the best but probably good enough for townies! :j :j0 -
Hi all
im just after some tips on how best to reduce my NTL bill.
I currently have the 10mb broadband and the standard phone line which stands at £45.99 a month. I got a reduction at the back end of last year(10mb half price for 3 months £17.99), so would I be ok to ask for another reduction....
so much to read on this subject......
ThankyouWork hard play hard......0 -
I have been a Telewest broadband user for a few years and should be paying around 17.99 a month, but twice this year I have called their customer services and told them I was quitting for another provider, ( and I made sure I had my facts and figures right about what the other provider charged and whether there was a contract, as they ask u this,( i.e. but don't you know they charge a connection fee, or do you realise their download speed is slow, I guess they want try and put you off and to test how serious u r).
I am on my second period of discount, I got £9 discount a month for 3 months, and now I have £10 discount for 6 months. A month before the discount runs out I call them again, and have the same conversation, I keep the sales persons name to hand.
I used to say I was going to Talk Talk, but wouldn't do it now as they will be well aware that it has had bad publicity.
You just have to sound well informed and convincing!0 -
Thank you everyone here!
Just called NTL to negotiate my bill down based on a comparison with Sky. First person I spoke to was a bit sniffy and wanted to know exactly what channels were being offered so after a bit of research on the sky site I was able to phone them back with sky mix (2 choices variety and family) for £15 per month plus 16 meg broaqdband £10 per month plus cost of BT £11 per month (total £36 pm) more or less replicating my NTL package which was £55.49. Result NTL gave me a discount to match the alternative (actually 2p per month cheaper) plus backdated the discount a couple of months!
You do need to be able to tell them wich channels you would get and exactly what it would cost but so long as you sound convincing they seem to be able to do quite well.
Wouldn't have tried it without the encouragement etc here so thanks!!!

My cheapie offers expired in late September so did some thorough research and worked out that for 3 months Sky/BT could beat NTL at a total price of £44.50 compared to the £72.99 I was paying NTL.
They have come back with a very reasonable offer :
Phone line rental 11.00 (as before)
Talk Unlimited evenings and weekends 5.50 (previously on 3-2-1, then 3-3-3)
Family Pack 9.75 (previously 19.50)
Sky Sports 17.50 (unable to apply discounts on this presently)
4MB broadband 12.50 (previously 24.99)
Total £56.25 per month
but, to also match Sky's half price offer for the first three months, they will also apply a £15 manual credit
Thus for the next three months I pay £41.25, a reduction of £31.74 per month.
Me happy
Make sure you know exactly what Sky offer, esp in terms of broadband speeds etc. Also just asked whether they could match Sky - didn't have to say I was thinking of leaving.0 -
I have just called NTL for my neighbour and got them the basic TV package, line rental ( with free calls 24/7) except 0870 + mobiles and 2mb broadband for £30 per month. it took over an hour being passed from pillar to post but eventually to the retention unit who applied all the codes for six months. He said call back in five months to get them put back on.
It pays to call and persevere, if you don't get want you are after say you are going to leave..... They do give in eventually0
