do i need to be looking at this thread in particular http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=26006

If so, then my modem is an ..... Ambit Cable Modem
just realised that when i turn my cable modem upside down, its got stickers and one that says NTL:home 100 ...does that help ?
  • But you still have to pay £11 to BT to get it thou right?

Yes, but what is the alternative to having a landline with BT NTL or anyone else?

The alternative is to make all of your calls on a mobile. If you do that, have no friends and even only make necessary calls you are still likely to spend in excess of £11 a month. BT line rental gives you so many options, not only free broadband via sky, but the option making 0.0p per minute calls via folks like 1899 and 18185.

The other option is something like Vonage where you make your calls over the Internet but I have yet to be convinced about going down that route.

Yeah i've just got up to 10meg broadband with NTL, freeview for TV and VOIP for telephone, all for £19.50 a month (£17.50 for bb and £2 a month for VOIP), could be cheaper if you go for a 4meg connection and get that half price so more like £14.50, or £11 for 1meg (not sure how well phone will work if your doing other things at the same time thou)

Just need to buy an adapter now so I can plug my regular telephone into my router and I'm all set.

I'd say cable is the future for those who are lucky enough to get it, due to VOIP.

Get your NTL broadband half price for 12 months.

Call Customer Retention 0800 052 9403, say you can get your internet cheaper elsewhere ie Sky. they will then half your price.
I went from £25 for 4Mb which they offered me a cut to £12.50, i asked about the 10Mb service and got offered £17.50 for 10Mb for the next 12 months.

so you can guess what I went for :D
I called them up today and got half price broadband. no strings attached.
  • Just advised NTL that i was about to leave them for TalkTalk, no battle, offered me the same deal but 10mb unlimited broadband & unlimited UK calls for 21quid a month.

I am chuffed with this, as I work from home and it will save me a packet. No more excuses for not phoning mummy though :-)

I now need to find a phone with a headset to save me from a crooked spine and dodgy shoulder - any advice?
