alex69 wrote:Is anyone getting any deals that are the better than the published ones *when joining*? I might be interested in the 3for30 but the local salesrep says that's the best he can offer.
On a similar note, has anyone managed to get any good deals on braodband and phone line only as a new customer?0 -
I have been a customer of NTL for many years with mixed results.I was originally on TV/PHONE/BROADBAND with correspondingly high bills and customer services that were dire.Following a period of no broadband connection I decided to change Telephone line to BT to have a choice on broadband supplier(following research on MSE site).
B T sent an engineer and reconnected existing line and extentions at no cost.My existing number was ported hassle free and BT customer services were excellent at the time. This was 18 months ago.
Useing BT line and 18866 has worked as an economical alternative for my call profile.
Following recent reductions in broadband package costs I contacted NTL in July to give a months notice of termination of £17.99 broadband 1 meg account.
Nothing happened they kept supplying the service and debiting the account.
Last week I contacted customer services to cancel again and was offered 2MEG service for £9.99 via a £8 retention rebate every month to be renewed every 6 months no min. contract period.
I have just received my first bill and it worked; £9.99.
They also offered TV service and phone line with off peak call package for £11 a month.I think I will keep separate line with BT at present to keep options open.0 -
I called Telewest to negotiate lower charges on my Phone / TV / Broadband service. This is the deal I got.
Service Was / Now / Saving
Line Rental £10.50 / £10.50 / £0.00
Talk Unlimited £14.50 / £9.50 / £5.00
Talk Mobile £1.50 / Free / £1.50
Call Display £1.75 / Free / £1.75
Starter TV £5.50 / Free* / £5.50
Broadband (4MB) £25.00 / £18.00 / £7.00
Total £58.75 / £38.00 / £20.75
* I will lose Bravo, Challenge and ER4+1 whatever they are
I threatened to switch to BT (they have just reduced their prices), Freeview (free) and Orange Broadband (free to mobile customers). Telewest price matched everything except Orange Broadband. I am not happy with the broadband charge - it is still too high - but will stick with Telewest as my business is reliant upon a good quality broadband connection. The price concession was granted for 6 months (calendar entry to call again in March!). I was not asked to sign a new contract. Telewest indicated that they will soon publish new pricing to compete with BT, Talk Talk etc.0 -
As a Sky TV customer I can have their 2mb broadband free or their 8 mb broadband for £5.00. However it is a bit of a hassle changing your e-mail address and notifying everyone, especially websites on which you are registered.
I contacted NTL on 0800 0529403 - our current broadband provider and told a very helpful lady about the Sky deals that I was looking to change to. She already knew about them as she has her Braodband with Sky. She offered to increase the speed of our Broadband to 2mb and reduce the cost from £17.99 a month to £8.50 a month for the next 3 months. She suggested I phone again in 3 months time and they will renew the reduction for a further 3 months. So 4 phone calls a year to NTL will save me £133.88 a year. Now that is a good saving for just a few minutes of free phone calls.
I will probably switch to Sky eventually but this saving will do in the meantime.IF THIS POST HAS BEEN HELPFUL - PLEASE CLICK ON THANKS :j0 -
phoned ntl yesterday and quoted the tiscali bb price of £12.99, mine was £14.99, so they reduced it to £13.99 and increased my speed by x4.
not bad!!0 -

I phone Telewest earleir this week to let them know i was not that happy about the amount I was paying for their service:
Phone £11
Call reject £1.75
Caller ID display £1.75
TV essential package £11.50
Broadband 4MB £25
total £51
I was directly offered everything for £43 ie a reduction of £8. That's a start. I obviously asked for more but didn't manage any better. I said I'll ring back in a few days once I have look around at the competetitors.
Rang back today to say I wanted more, however I faced a wall, what ever my argument (customer loyalty, other offers...). I was told I was given the 3 for £40 (phone £10.50, TV £10.50, b/b £18) a reduction of £7.5 and 50p discount on my phone options, total £43. They would only give me more discount if I reduced my broadband package to 2MB.
Aftre 5min of arguing, I started saying that I might have to cancel in those condition and that didn't seem to bother my interlocutor. I will ring back at the end of the week end to speak to someelse.
I think it really depends who you're speaking to in the phone, The 1st one was nice and I should have insisted the first day (but I'm chicken on the phone, not use to). Hopefully I 'll have more conprehensible person next time.0 -
I've got the Phone (talk weekends), TV (Essential Package) and Broadband Complete (4mb) with Telewest - total £47.50.
I phoned up to cancel the phone line and was offered the lot for just over £29 a month for the year. I wasn't calling their bluff, I had really decided to cancel it and switch back to BT for cheaper calls with the option later of switching to ADSL broadband for a more competitive price.
The person I spoke to simply asked why I wanted to cancel and when I told him he immediately offered me the above to remain with them. I'm more than happy with this and believe it is a great deal.0 -
Sky is now the cheapest Broadband and ntl know it. Acquaint yourself with the sky package prices at http://broadband.sky.com/flash.htm and quote these as your reason for wanting to cancel. You can then be sure of getting offered their best deal.IF THIS POST HAS BEEN HELPFUL - PLEASE CLICK ON THANKS :j0
