Reading through this thread it seems that many are getting quite good deals when phoning ntl to cancel. I am on £24.99 broadband package and paying line rental to BT. October last year I was offered to upgrade to 2mb for free, however this meant going on a 12 month contract - although I have been with ntl for years now.

As the 12 months are almost up, and I could give a months notice from now, I am not sure what to do. Do I phone and ask for cancellations and say I want to give a month's notice as I have found better deals elsewhere? Or do I phone and say that I am thinking of leaving and could you offer me a deal?

I have been looking at other packages such as TAlk Talk (this seems to be a very dodgy thing to do seeing other threads) which on paper is very good at £19.99 the line rental included - considering I am paying £24.99 + £12.00 per month for line rental = £36.99 - a big difference of £15.00 a month!

What to do is the question - has any one any words of wisdom?

I had ntl broadband installed on Thursday 1mb at £17.99. It has been very slow so we called up today and they said we could have half price 4mb for 3 months. It does seem much quicker now.

Those of you who are getting slow speeds during testing are you either:
    -testing over wireless OR
-using USB to connect to the modem (the ethernet cable should work better)

We have tested our connection now over wireless and wired - wireless showed 1.5mb and wired 4mb

    Just a thought!

Haha - I noticed Telewest now have a fre - freeview option on their TV

Already battered them down to £19-49 for 4mb BB and Phone Line rental and Talk Eves and We's - called to ask if i can keep the TV box fer free - got put through to a great NTL advisor in their retentions - 1st time i got them rather than TW

    They now have given me

    4mb BB
    Line Rental
    Talk Eves We's
TV Starter package - better than Freeview

Depends on the max speed your wireless router and network cards can handle.

Is there anyway to manage your account online? I find it suprising that you cant log in to a company that provides the internet! Maybe I'm just missing it.

Can anyone give me some advice please?

I have just rung NTL - RETENTIONS put through to a very abrupt woman. I explained that on 7/10/06 I had a free upgrade broadband to 2mb which locked me into a 12 month contract with them. I asked if that meant that if I wanted to move to another provider I could phone and give a month's notice as from tomorrow 7/9/06 - she replied yes. I then said that to do that would I need a MAC code to give to another provider - she said no because you wouldn't be taking your email address with you - you don't need it.

She never asked me anything or ask why I wanted to leave ntl - it was just yes and no answers! After that I just said thank you and goodbye! Should I just call tomorrow and say I want to give a month's notice to leave or what? It didn't seem that they would try and keep me on or ask any questions - help!

I wonder if she works in the Scottish call centre which they announced yesterday was going to close ?

Leave it until tomorrow and try again, tell them your thinking of moving to talk talk and ask if they can improve on your current package
