    Thanks for that Optimist,

I'm just worried that if I call to give a month's notice tomorrow that they will just accept it - I would really be in it then!

I have looked at a few packages, one being Talk Talk (although there are a lot of people having problems with them) and sky, but not sure if I could take the hassle!
I was rather shocked with the response I had today - well, no response at all!

You dont have to actually give your notice just say your thinking about it.

This is what I did and got silence on the other end - that is when I said that my 12 month contract was up on 7/10/06 and if I was moving to another provider if I just give a month's notice from tomorrow - she said yes. There was no conversation at all and because of the silence on the other end I just ok then, thank you and goodbye!
  • Get your NTL broadband half price for 12 months.

Call Customer Retention 0800 052 9403, say you can get your internet cheaper elsewhere ie Sky. they will then half your price.
I went from £25 for 4Mb which they offered me a cut to £12.50, i asked about the 10Mb service and got offered £17.50 for 10Mb for the next 12 months.

so you can guess what I went for :D

I had ntl broadband installed on Thursday 1mb at £17.99. It has been very slow so we called up today and they said we could have half price 4mb for 3 months. It does seem much quicker now.

Those of you who are getting slow speeds during testing are you either:
    -testing over wireless OR
-using USB to connect to the modem (the ethernet cable should work better)

We have tested our connection now over wireless and wired - wireless showed 1.5mb and wired 4mb

    Just a thought!

    Hey guys,

I tried again this time asked about 10mb, got it half price for 12 months.

I just phoned ntl to say I was thinking of leaving but they could not find my account and after a few minutes when I said I had ntl freedom, I was told that it was a different service and was put through to ntl freedom!

Ntl freedom is for dial up, through telephone line.
    Ntl is through cable.

I am on a £24.99 per month package (2mb speed) at the moment, and as an ntl freedom customer the best they could offer me was £19.49 per month (2mb speed) but with a 12 month contract, and was told I would not get a better offer! I also found out that I am not in a cable area and therefore would not be able to change over to ntl, where they could offer me better deals and faster speed - ntl freedom speed is max 2mb!

I did not accept their offer at this time, as I would rather keep looking for other providers for the moment. :(

My £24.99 package includes unlimited uk calls but have to pay line rental to BT which is £36.00 per quarter.

I just this second phoned to cancel. I'm on 10mb (paying 17.50 a month for 3 months - the latest offer). They offered me 17.50 a month ON A PERMANENT BASIS i.e. not just 3 months or 12 months etc. They said they want to keep the customers etc.

They also offered 4mb at 12.50 a month.

    what i paid before
    2mb broadband £17.99 per month
    Starter TV £5.50 per month
Telephone including free weekends £11.00 per month
    Caller reject £1.75 per month

I called up telewest today(150, free from any telewest phone) and pressed the option for cancelling my service. Got through to a lady who i told i wanted to cancel my services, as i needed to make some savings and that other suppliers offer more for less. So i said that i was getting a freeview box so that would save me the £5.50 a month i pay for the Starter pack, and she said that telewest do an option called FREE TV,you keep the box and get a basic package pay no fee as long as you have a phone line, but this has less channels than freeview so i said no.

Then she offered me call 200 to which i said no.

Then she offered me the 3 for £30 deal to which i said no.
I said i was after a package that stayed constant and asked if i could have what i already have for £22.00, plus upgrade the phone to free evenings and weekends and throw in the caller reject, she tapped a few keys and said "YES"!!!!!! Then she came out with the old chestnut "i don't do this for everyone, its only because you have been with us for 8 years".
So its only for 6 months but still better than paying out what i paid before, I'm well chuffed.
And yes the lady in the avatar is me

  • Just registered, this post inspired me to call Telewest a month or so ago.

I was then on the standard tv package, 2mb BB, line rental + non DD extra charge + calls, total around £50 pm.

After the first call I was put on the £30 a month package + £4 non DD +Calls.

This worked out a net saving of around 6 or 7 quid.

Trouble was talk talk or sky BB wasn't available on my postcode at that time, they knew that hence no great deal.

Anyway, I usually pay bill when I get the reminder letter via debit card due to them messing up my DD a while back, I strongly object to the £4 non DD charge, the final straw was an ebill email saying that no more reminders would be issued and that a £10 charge would be put on my account if I didn't pay by the due date.

So I rang BT and put an order in to return, after checking Talk talk site it was now available in my postcode.

48 hrs later Telewest are on the phone.

What they offered me to cancel BT, basically to match the talk talk deal.

£21pm total to include... 2mb unlimited BB, starter TV package, line rental + all uk landline calls + non DD charge now £1 as BT.

So I'm staying put for now.

A friend told me she tried to cancel to reduce her outgoings after redundancy(she was genuinly leaving), tells me she has the starter TV + 2mb BB are now free, just pays line rental and calls.

Is anyone getting any deals that are the better than the published ones *when joining*? I might be interested in the 3for30 but the local salesrep says that's the best he can offer.
