I called back to see when the above was effective from and it was as of nextday, also advised that the free UK calls were only valid for 3months (we are having a system overhaul because of Telewest & Virgin merge..........whatever) so I will need to call back in 3months to ensure I still have the deal in place
My broadband speeds are still crappy having tested this morning getting 1.8mb max and a low of 0.177 hmmmmmmmm, no where near the 6mb others have posted
I'll give it 7days and then c what happens0 -
I called NTL about 2 weeks ago and asked to get upgaded from my 4mb to 10mb as I had received a better deal from Sky. They agreed to this and also gave me 3 months at £17.49. I like everyone else will have to call back in 3 months.
After agreeing to this they hadn't changed the speed 3 days later so I called them on their Customer Accounts line and they said it had been done. They put me through to Tech Support and I spoke to some (I will be polite) fool, who spent an hour and a half trying to sort the problem out. After this he decided he couldn't do anything and was very reluctant to send an engineer round as the line worked. I stated that my modem couldn't accept the 10mb service as I had read it on another site ( http://www.chetnet.co.uk/articles/index.php?page=index_v2&id=91&c=4) he then agreed to send one out.
When the engineer came to my house he took one look at my Terayon ECM 210 and said he would swap it over for me. The engineer was great and very helpful.
It's just a shame the Tech Support don't have a clue!
New modem works fine NTL 250. With a usb reaches about 6mb with the ethernet it reached just over 8mb0 -

What speeds are other 10MB NTL users getting on here ?
Have you tried adjusting your TCP/IP settings? Download this free program and it will optimize your settings for you. If your speed does not improve to nearer the 10MB after adjustment then I would phone NTL and let them know about the problem you are experiencing, because it must be a fault at their end.

Just come off the fone to NTL.
Was paying 31.00 for bb and fone.
Now pay 18.99 for same package, and only 13.49 for first 3 months, when I can ring again.
9.99 for bb permanent(though you have to ring after 6 months to keep it going)
9.00 for the fone, with half price line rental for first 3 months of 3.50(then re apply).
This is my second such deal and I,m indebted to this site once again.
Many thanks,

I have just called ntl and they have waived...yes waived the charge on the bill this month! Should have been £50.78...now...zero!
Had to check with her 3 times as I couldn't believe it! yippee!!!
Thanks guys0 -
Just done my good deed of the day.
An elderly neighbour stopped to have a chat with me the other day and somehow got on the subject of his NTL phone and TV and how he was thinking of switching, I told him I'd pop round and for him to get his latest bill ready and I might be able to get him a better deal.
Rang NTL on his behalf today, there were some odd things on his bill, like paying £5.50 for talk unlimited but only being on the phone for 8 minutes last month. His total cost for line rental and TV etc. was £28 got NTL to make it £14 and he still has unlimited L/L calls at the w/end. As a good will gesture they are crediting him with £30 as well.0 -
I have basic tv package, 10 mg broadband, and phone with NTL. What should I be expecting to pay. We don't use the phone very much. Do you get your bills all in one. My last bills added up to £67 plus. I thought that was a bit steep - what do you think.0

We are on 1Mb, and a year ago argued that the competition was cheaper, and got it at 9.99 for 1 year. It's just gone up again so we rang them again. Got a further 6 months for 9.99 without a murmur. I tried to get it for a year, but they said ring back when it expires.
You gotta haggle!0 -
I`m looking in to getting broadband for my dad. As he`s in an NTL area what is the lowest price I can get it for? Does the £9.99 price plan still exist for new customers or could I get them to pricematch Tiscali at £12.99 a month?
Thanks
