frugal_matelot wrote:I phoned the customer relations department in early June to try to get a better deal. I was on the 1 meg BB for £17.99 a month. I told them that I didn't think that was competitive anymore. I said I leaving them for talk talk. They offered me half price 1 meg BB or the 10 meg for £10 a month. Needless to say I took up the 10 meg offer. Guess what though. 6 weeks down the line I get a DD notice saying they will take £35 out of my account. Annoyingly I was on holiday in Cyprus. Emailed them saying that I needed correspondence by email. Nothing. Back in the country now and feel the need to shout at someone !!!! Took the representatives name and extension number so should have something in my armoury when I contact them. I think I will request something in writing this time !
I've had exactly the same - see previous posts (ie more than once) on this thread. Ring them, there'll sort but be firm - not happy, this wasn't what was agreed etc.0 -
I was getting my B/Band for £9.99 should be £17.99 and my phone line for £5.50 should be £11. On my latest statement everything went up to the normal price, I was expecting that, was a one year deal. I gave them a ring, they don't have the freephone number any more it's an 0845 number now, rang the 0845 number put me in a queue and said it would be 10 minutes, last time it said that it was over 25 minutes so hung up. Phoned up later and used the 0800 digital TV sales number, it had an option to put me to customer services, it said I should use the 0845 number in future(I don't think so). Speak to someone quickly. Q. Can I have my line rental at £5.50 I'm a low user. A. let me just check..... No sorry we don't do that anymore. Me Ok. fair enough but BT do a low user service so I'll probably switch to BT. Reply, let me just check with my supervisor....... the best we can do is £6. Me That's Ok but now about my B/B. He interrupts me and says he's already put the price down to £9.99 for another year. I like it.0

Thanks for the 0800 number - just tried and got my broadband back down to £9.99 - mine also went up to normal price this month.0 -
I was on NTL 1M BB for 24.99 a year up until April this year when my 12 month contract was up, I rang up to discontinue and they offered me a 10M upgrade plus line rental of 17.49; I took it.
Now I realised the half-price rental was only for 3 month after recieving latest statement. Rang CS again, he said the best he can do is offer me 3 month half-price rental again, anything more will have to contact Retention.
So I will call again on Monday to Retention/Disconnection. Just wondered what sort of deal can one get? I only need the BB, no phone no TV, so my bargaining chip is rather limited.
I dont mind to downgrade to 1M connection as long as I can get some low price rental for a longer period. How should I ask for such deal?
thanks.0 -
Does anyone know if I can try and get a newer modem? I've been with ntl for years and mines the old motorolla surfboard one. I wanted to make a wireless network but thought it may not be so good with this old modem
What can I do to get one? a guy at sales said I'd only get a replacement if mine became faultyThanx

I was getting drop outs in my connection - not a lot, but a few times. An engineer came and changed the modem over. It's now a small see through blue one. That might be worth a try. (I don't get the drop outs now either).0 -
Could try it... thinking about it I have had problems with that I never thought about it being the modem I just thought network. Would a new modem be better for the wireless then?Thanx

I'm with NTL and last yr I told them I'd be leaving them to go to another provider. They reduced my payment from £17.99 a month to £9.99 a month for 12 months.
A year on, I've just been put back on the £17.99 month package. If I telephoned again and requested they reduce my internet charge per month as there was more competion out there, any chance they would reduce it, or offer me a good deal??0 -
Do you just have the internet with them or other products too?Thanx
