Phoned NTL`s customer services last night they would only offer me a saving of £10 per month for Talk unltd 24 and broadband 4mbs. I quoted Talk Talk`s offer but that made no difference so I said I would like to cancel my subscription.

This had to be done by the cancellation department who are only open Mon to Fri 9 - 5. I called them this morning and was offered a saving of £20 per month and an upgrade to their 10 mbs broadband.

This offer is valid for 6 months but I was told to phone up then and ask to renew the offer.

It pays to persevere and go through to the cancellation department. I`ve managed to save about £600 over 3 years by keep phoning and threatening to cancel :T

    Morning Cos

The saving is compared to what I would have paid NTL over 3 years had I not threatened to cancel. Not what I might have saved by going elsewhere.

I`ve been with NTL for about 6 years started off with their TV and phone package, dropped the TV and took up their broadband.

I have their Talk unltd 24 which was costing me £14.00 Line rental £10 ish and broadband costing £24.99 (these figures are roughly accurate without looking out my bills) This was the best deal I could find at the time for what I wanted without having to go back to a BT line.

I started phoning up just over 3 years ago with the intention of cancelling and going back to BT they persuaded me to stay offering me a saving of just over £20/month. As has been previously stated this offer is time limited so you have to keep phoning on a regular basis. Every time I have phoned they have always matched the other offers I have mentioned and usually given me something extra.

So saving £20/month for 36 months = £720 give or take the odd months I`ve forgotten to phone to get the latest offer.

I might have saved the same money by changing to another supplier as I originally had planned to do but it has saved me the hassle and they have given me various broadband upgrades.

Yes it can be a pain to get through to the right department but it can be worth it

    Hi Fatcon

Thanks for the breakdown as it will gives encouragement to others seeing the sums black and white.

You are absolutley right when trying to get through to NTL, but given the right channels a free call and time can work wonders.

    Hi all

Phoned up ntl a couple of days ago stating we were thinking of moving to bulldog with their 8 mg broadband offer for £19.50. Spoke to customer services who offered our current 4 mg broadband which we pay £24.99 for, for £19.99 for 6 months, alongside a permanent £4 reduction on our phone line rental.

Explained I would think about it and kept details, phoned back the next day, explained the situation and the lady said she was putting me through to customer services, instead I ended up speaking to someone in retentions, explained again, and he immediately said he would make me an offer, so now for 1 year we have 4 mg broadband for £12.49 and phone line rental for £5.50 which is £5 off what we have been paying, totalling a reduction of £17.49 per month which I am very happy about!

  • well signed my life away for the next 12 months on NTL; for 34.99/m = 4mb BB + unlimited Eve/wkend calls + line rental included.

Not bad as im with PlusNet 21.99m [cancelling tomorrow cause it takes 30 days to complete] and BT Option 1 36.00/quarter + calls [about 30 per month on cals mainly to mobiles  ]

anyway have had expericence of NTL before when i was aty my parents, and hope that the not so many problems that they have had roll over to me ;)

I have had broadband with NTL ever since they started it. I pay £17.99 for Img when I have rung up to try and get a discount I always get knocked back, no offers for existing customers.......I changed my phone line last year after they cut me off for 3 weeks, their mistake, not mine....so my phone is with BT, we have freeview, I cancelled the NTL TV service 3 years ago......any suggestions who at NTL I should ring to try and get a reduced offer on my broadband?????????

With respect i don't think you will unless you take on their new three month offer all three for 15.00.

You say they cut you off - you could had claimed as i did. I complained on line to OFCOM and NTL responded very fast, they gave me a direct number made me tea and toast in the mornings they couldnt do enough, ok a little over the top, the toast came later :rotfl:

The point is if you felt you have a valid claim and they dont respond go on line and complain to the watchdogs, although sometimes they dont have authority as i found with Post watch last week, another story with respect to them.

I did complain, very loudly and in the end e mailed the head of NTL as I was getting no where with customer services.............I got a reduction on my broadband and a hhike to 1 mg, although that would have happened anyway as they were into a programme of upgrades......... I am seriously thinking of changing providers, it will cause problems, I will have to get another phone socket installed as the phone line is downstairs and the computer upstairs, I also have a laptop which is linked to the internet by a router, so have that to consider....... I am not a techie amd the thought of doin gall this really puts me off, but I know I can get a better deal from another company. I do not want NTL phone or TV, we have freeview and thats enough for us....
