We were on 1MB Broadband for £17.99

and £25 for talk unlimited 24 with ntl.

Explained that for financial reasons we had to cut back,

    so they offered us

    1 MB for £9.99 for 6 months

    and

Talk weekend, which is free local calls on the evenings and weekend for £11.00 , instead of the listed price of £12.50 . So as the line rental is £11, we have effectively got that for free.

A nice deal but as you were on talk 24 if pushed they might well give you that for free as well, as they did for me and one or two other posters. The difference with your situation to mine was that I was already on £9.99 1 MB BB and had a years deal already and it was just about to go up to £17.99 so maybe that swung it.

I mentioned talk talk deal of 24 hours calls and BB at about £20 a month so they offered for £20.99 the 1 Meg BB and talk unlimited 24, both for 6 months. I see one poster got this for a year.

If talk 24 is still useful to you it might be worth considering giving it a go.

    Hi all,

I've decided to see what NTL can offer me to stay as a customer. We've currently been with them for 2 years, and are on the 10Mb service at £34.99.

Due to current circumstances, we can't afford that amount of money, but because my husband and son play games online a lot, we need the speed (or pretty close to it).

So, I had a look around and found that Tiscali do 8Mb for £17.99. Rang NTL this morning (was kept on hold for 10 minutes till I got through to a "human") and explained that I was looking at cancelling and going with Tiscali. She told me they couldn't price match and would have to reduce to 2 Mb to get the price!! She wouldn't budge

So, I asked for the cancellation dept, which she tried to put me through to for 30 MINUTES, and COULDN'T....then she tells me after all that time (how much did this call cost??) that she couldn't speak to me and had to speak to my husband because it was in his name, quoting the Data B@#!*dy Protection Act  (I wouldn't mind, but they've spoken to me before about the account, no questions asked).

So, for a 40 minute phone call, I got ...nothing, just a bigger phone bill.

Anybody have any ideas on how to get the BB cost reduced, and possibly my phone costs back (it was the 0845 number!)?

    Hi Chatta

You are entitled to compensation so keep records of dates and disruption and when all is up and running contact NTL with your complaint I received a good compenation package which i now build upon should i have to endure any other disruption.

I previously mentioned the freephone number of which you should call to NTL sales use this, and then after they advise you its the wrong department ask to be transferred.

Ask your husband to put your name on the account to save further inconvenience.

Do you have TV/Telephone as for some it works out cheaper as I have just found out the increase to 4mb has cost me less than having the original 1mb and thats on top of previous discounts and deals i received over the past 12 months.

My monthly package after the compensation period runs out.

TV with family pack + one month free. Telephone with free local and national calls. 4mb Broadband . £39.00 per month

    hi cos,

    Thanks for the reply.

I will ask my hubby tonight to give them a ring, and ask them to speak to me in future (he hates phoning companies up, so this will be a quick call!!). I didn't realise that sales would transfer you to the customer service dept...don't they realise people are phoning them to bypass the phone costs. I just assumed they would hand ut the 0845 number and make you redial  So, i'll be giving that a try:p

As for packages, we only have the broadband. When we originally signed up 2 years ago, the cost of tv/phone/BB actually worked out dearer than having Sky and BT seperately (we use 1899 and 18866 for phone calls).

It would be nice, as a loyal customer to NTL to be offered something for our loyalty...is there anything specific that makes them take notice and hand out deals more easily?

Thats what irks me too, Europa.

I have been a Telewest customer for just seven months now. I have Talk Unlimited phone, 2meg broadband and their Supreme TV package. This cost me £35 a month to start with but the last four months have increased to £55.99 a month.

On thier website, they are advertising bundles for various packages similar but not exactly the same for much, much less. My TV / Phone package would cost £19 a month not including the broadband which I could then get from another supplier but I really want to stay with them.

Just rang the Telewest sales adviser who said there is no way to reduce my costs at all. Is it worth threatening to leave them? I don't have any real desire to leave them but I want to get the lot for around £35 a month if possible.

Maybe you should wait for BT new Broadand/Sky/Telephone via their lines.

To have BT and Sky and NTL broadband, it does not appear to be cost effective. The package NTL offer could have saved hundreds.

    OR

Compare what you have and how much NTL will charge as now they are giving the packge to new customers for £15.00 for 3 months, and as you are a customer of two years see what loyalty bonus you can get.

Free telephone calls, reduced price on your broadband TV channels etc...

£34.99 for Broadband alone is alot to pay, in my opinion.

Call there disconnections department and be straight as its your money they want and your custom, and it also looks bad on them when they lose acustomer.

Tell them you are unhappy with the service and that you wish to cancel, if thay inquire why, tell them other companies are offering a better deal ie: Sky, Bt. If you have no joy tell them you wish to cancel. They expect a months notice to cancel which is not a problem because if the rep don't back down and make you an offer you can call them back in a few days to reverse your decision, nothing lost just a free phone call and your time
