  • Hi Everyone,

I have been reading through all of these and am amazed at the deals people have been getting.. sooo.. I have tried to research this as much as possible but am stil a bit confused..

I signed up with NTL on the 6th of june and had 1mb broadband installed at £17.99. Do you know if I have a right to cancel within 30 days as I am a new customer? only since it was installed I have realised i could use a phone line and a faster speed, and I was wanting something to present ntl with so I can try and get a better deal off them, also I signed up with a rep from one of the stalls and then realised If I had signed up online I would of had 3 months at a discount rate, but basically I got nothing...sooo

Do you think I have a right to cancel cuz im a new customer (15 days) and do you think I could use the threat to go with someone else to get a better deal of them.

thanks for taking the time to read this, and for creating such a wonderful forum:)

I'm not sure of the T+C, but it's worth checking your cancellation rights with them if you explain why. Might be an issue with the kit you've been given and engineer costs to install.

In terms of the offer you mention, I would definitely mention that. If you'd gone on line you'd have been much better off. If you get no where with them the first time round, try again with someone else. Like many call centres e.g. British Gas, Thomas cook I find that if a first you don't succeed...

Don't forget to use a freephone number. NTL have changed their numbers recently. Check saynoto0870.com first.

Back in April, I made a phone call to NTL to try and extend my offer of 3 months half price 10mb (normally 34.99) - as posted previously here. This went through fine. In May, it was half price but today it was back to 34.99 in my bank account. I phoned earlier and queried this. It's back to half price for 3 months, but there is no explanation as to why it was full price this month. Keep an eye on what you have been offered.
  • This is my first post so hello!

I recently had a letter from NTL offering me 512k broadband for £14.99, the same amount as the dial-up service went up to on 1st June. I rang them up to join up and they offered me 1meg broadband plus my telephone line rental (including free national calls at weekends) for £24.99 instead of £25.99 which I am paying at present for dial-up plus their standard telephone service.

So if anyone is still on NTL dial-up it is worth giving them a ring.

When you phone to complain that the stall representitive miss-sold the product to you and that they did not correctly advise that you could make savings by taking on other products via NTL this makes for a case in your favour.

Armed with the knowledge gained from the OTHERS , be confident and reasonable in what you want and nagotiate.
Rememember. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.
Never pass up an opportunity to go to the bathroom.
If you woke up breathing, congratulations! You get another chance. And finally, be really nice to your family and friends; you never know
when, You might need them to empty your bedpan.

Do you think my daughter might be able to get a better deal as shes moving into a student house in a couple of weeks and they have ntl broadband and tv because the signal wasnt good on the aerial.

Not sure whos name the accounts are in but I think they pay full price. Shes not bothered about the NTL TV though and I said really the landlord should fix the aerial then they could get rid of the tv but they do definitely need the broadband for the course.

If the bills are in the landlords name can they still try to negotiate? I'm not even sure if the bills are in a students name who has now left the property either.

Do you think if they just have one service ie broadband they could still get a deal? as at the moment 2 of the students have quit uni so they are left to just 2 of them left to split the bills so they are trying to cut down on things
    Thanx

  • i too was getting fed up with my ntl bills compared to talk talk and the like, so i rang asked for retentions - helpd for about 30 mins then when i finally got through - did the why am i paying so much moan mentioned talk talk, hey presto - no questions asked. 1 meg broad band dropped to 9.99 a month for the year and my talk unlimited 24 for free for a year.
saving me £20 per month for a year = £240
    i'm quoted happy!!!

We were on 1MB Broadband for £17.99

and £25 for talk unlimited 24 with ntl.

Explained that for financial reasons we had to cut back,

    so they offered us

    1 MB for £9.99 for 6 months

    and

Talk weekend, which is free local calls on the evenings and weekend for £11.00 , instead of the listed price of £12.50 . So as the line rental is £11, we have effectively got that for free.
  • Hi,

Was just browsing the NTL site to see if there was any news on their HDTV rollout (there wasn't ) and saw an advert specifying that new customers could benefit fron 3 months at £15 for NTL phone, broadband and digital television. There was also a comment saying "Existing customers taking an additional product should call 0800 183 0123".

Those who don't ask, don't get - so I rang them, followed the options for 'I want to change my existing package' and the lady has credited my account with £15 for each of the next 3 months, no quibbling - that brings my bill down from the £30 I currently pay to the £15 advertised.

    Offer ends 30th June...

    Good luck,
