Just rang the 0800 0529403 option 2 asked if they were willing to match the talk talk deal but they person I spoke to must have just been made redundant as he didnt want to know and he put me through to sales without any discussion. Sales tried to sell me extra but after I explained I didnt want any extra services he put me through to retentions. The gent there was very helpfull gave me 3 months free calls with a further 3 looking very likely and 1mg broadband at £9.99. Happy with one meg so thats no problem. Took about half an hour with all the waiting for people to answer but well worth it!

Is there any point in me giving NTL a ring to see if they may upgrade my speed as I'm already on a good deal as below:

I only have BB from NTL (nothing else)

1MB BB for £9.99 a month for twelve months. (I think I'm on month 8 or so)

I was just thinking of enquiring when my contract ends and dropping a hint in between that I was thinking of leaving for TalkTalk to see if they do offer anything.

    Worth a try?????

Go for it - nothing to lose. They won't want to lose out with the Talk Talk deal.
  • I am with NTL on 1MB broadband and talk unlimited 24 with caller id at £51 per month. I rang their customer relatinos number yesterday to say i was thinking of moving to TalkTalk and what could they do?
I am now on 2MB broadband (soon to be 4MB) and talkunlimited 24 with caller id and line rental all in for £24.74 per month. I didnt have to argue so thanks to those who suggested calling and may i suggest the same to everyone reading this!!:T
Never pass up the opportunity to take a pee!:p
  • A big thank you to all on the forum (and I guess I should also thank the guy who posted a link to this site from the alt.consumers.uk-discounts.and.bargains newsgroup). A nice easy way to save money with NTL.

    Before:
    NTL 1mb broadband - 17.99
Family pack digital tv + phone line - 30
    (total 47.99)

    After:
    NTL 1mb broadband - 9.99
Family pack digital tv + phone line - 20.25
(total 30.24 - confirmed as having no time limit on the offer)

I telephoned the customer retentions line (0800 052 9403, option 2) and got straight through! (that's a first). I explained that I was trying to reduce my spending, and that the call was just to see where I stood with NTL before putting the wheels in motion to replace all my NTL services. I used the fact that all 3 services are linked (to replace NTL broadband with another supplier, I'd need to get a BT phone line. NTL tv service is dependent on having an NTL phone line, so I might as well get Sky if I'm changing phone and broadband suppliers).

I mentioned talktalk (I admitted that they have a huge backlog of customers trying to sign up, but that it would be worth the wait). I also mentioned plenty of cheaper broadband suppliers (Tiscali, Wanadoo, Toucan, AOL silver, Boltblue).

As I rarely use the phone service, we concentrated on the broadband cost. They offered me 2mb (soon to be upgraded free to 4mb) for 12.50, but as 1mb is fast enough for me they offered 1mb for 9.99 instead of 17.99. Without any more prodding they also reduced my phone/tv from 30 to 20.25.

I also asked for and received an email confirmation, just in case the changed don't go through...

    Very happy with the results.
  • Inspired by the successes on MSE, I rang Telewest this morning armed with my facts and figures.
    Current
Telehone line 10.50 (cost of calls £15 per month)
    TV 11.50
    Broadband 17.99

Now for the next 12 months
    Telephone 10.50 - price protected
    TV 10.50
    Broadband 13.00
Half price unlimited calls for 6 months 7.50

My savings aren't as huge as some others, but I'll be using the unlimited calls to the fullest extent to make the most of it.

The guy I spoke to said they were planning to move the call centre dealing with bills to India. Another one bites the dust.

Thank you to this site and in particular this thread, I am with BY, went away after reading everyone's results here, did homework on how to switch to BT/talk talk, called disconnections, and ended up with my line rental/talk unlimited and 2mb BB price matched to talk talk for next 3 months, (a credit worth more than half the cost of these services each month!) will then review again after that, or hopefully BY will have had to reduce prices by then anyway.

They do bash TT dont they - my dad has signed up with them, will see how his service is soon enough, and know if its a viable alternative first hand then.
  • Having read so many members stories of getting a better deal with NTL. I could'nt wait until their Customer Retention Office opened this morning. With no hasle at all I was given an upgrade from 1Mb to 2 Mb. and a drop in monthly fees (Broadband and Telephone) did cost £17.99 and £11. respectively, Total £28.99. Now down to £20.99 and free local evening and weekend calls. Just like to say thank you to all those who led the way. Plus Martin our Saviour!

How did you approach them? Did you threaten to cancel quoting TalkTalk?

After reading all your tips called this morning on the 0800 and straight away got through. Was on the £55 month package (2mb, family pack TV, free evening & local calls) and said I's been shopping around at Sky & TT and what could they do.

With no quibbling was instantly offered same deal at half price, saving £27 per month or £324 per year!! Also told that when this deal expires in 6mths to call back and they will give me another or at least match it! Even better, 2mb BB will go to 4MB next month.

Very chuffed - thanks to all for your tips. Been with NTL for 5 years - why didn't I do this earlier?!
