Called Telewest tonight, got through quite quickly to a customer service, she didnt ask for any account details, i explained my issues:-
told her i had been a customer for over 6 years getting phone and broadband 4mb for last year.
Recently moved house and gone on 3 for £34 deal, line rental, 4mb BB and family pack tv(already have sky, but wanted tv in bedroom!) and was same cost as 4mb BB + line rental I had before i moved house...
Told her that friends who have been with NTL for a while and even newer customers are getting speed increases and reduced costs, but got the answer" telewest and NTL, even though there are now same company are still operating seperate company policies, she cannot match any deal they offer"
i mentioned talk talk, said it was a better deal, quicker too, told her that friends also got better deal than me she said" talk talk is not guaranteed etc etc."
then i said i was disappointed that i had been a TW customer for such a long time and the deal i signed up for was not the good deal it actually looked like, there are better ones out there, she said" it is up to you to look for the best deal not us, but if you want i can downgrade your BB speed to 2mb and downgrade your TV pack" she mentioned i had such a good deal already, but reading all you other guys out there it makes me feel i am not...its a challenge!!!
so failed miserably, will not give up though, will call again tomorrow...
will try and keep smiling0 -
I have NTL internet with phone line costing app. £28 p.m.
Phoned NTL and asked if they could give me a better offer as Carphone warehouse/ Talk Talk was app.£21.
Guess What? Mu phone line is now £7 and the internet is £9.99 = £16.99.
This is for 6 months but he said ring in 6 months to renew if there are no offers sent to me by then.
I understand they are increasing their B/Band to 6 megs for the same price.0 -
I've been meaning to phone Telewest for awhile since seeing the first mention of cutting costs. Yesterday I researched the messages on this thread and phoned them saying that I was about to retire and wanted to cut costs (true) and that I really didn't want to leave Telewest as we've had particularly good service from them for four years (true). No quibble. The alternative was the 3 for £30 deal currently advertised for new customers. It lasts for one year, after which I was advised to phone again. This reduces my particular package by just over £10 a month. Effective immediately with a refund in next bill! Speed cut from 4 Mb to 2Mb, but I never noticed the difference when it was increased! Thanks to everyone.:j0

If you live in a student town/city like I do, then keep your eyes open for the special offer a little bird told me - they will soon be offering half price broadband to students, and someone at cust. services at nt hell told me that you just need to ask them to match this price for you!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

I too phoned NTL re Talk Talk. I've been with NTL for a few years. Without any problem they reduced my broadband price by half for 6 months, increaded it to 2 Meg, and gave me free phone calls for 6 months. Shows what can happen when you try0

SHOCK HORROR!
I upgraded to broadband in June 2004 & when the engineer came to fit everything up for me he didn't delete my dial up account!
I know it's my own fault but I've been charged £323 over the last two years for an account that I've not used.
NTL say it is their policy not to refund this money - anyone got any ideas?0 -
From what I understood if you havent been charged for something like this they can only charge you the bills for the last 3 months.
Theres got to be some responsibilty on thier part though aswell. Not just because the engineer didn't disconnect it (I'm not sure if they actually should themselves though) but obviously they thought it was disconnected themselves or they would have billed you for this all this time. I'm sure I read somewhere in the rules that if this kind of thing happends they can only charge you the last 3 months. Have you been using the dial up then? as if you have it might make a difference as it would be obvious you knew about it being left on. I remember when I had my broadband put in I had heard that some people had been charged for un-disconnected dial ups so I made sure mine was disconnected and rang up to tripple check.Thanx

It seems very random as to what if anything ntl offer you when you mention talk talk.
In my case, I have been with ntl for 5 years, telephone & TV, dial up, then broadband for about 2 years.
The best I could get was half price telephone line rental for life.0 -
I also called Telewest after seeing the threads here. I've been given 3 months half price b/b. It was either this or reduced from my current 4mb to 2mb for 14.99 per month for a year. Will be calling back in 3 months though!0

I rang NTL yesterday to cancel my account, providing the usual 30 days notice as I was keen to transfer to Talk Talk, I figured it was an offer too good to miss and pretty much told NTL that too. I then contatced BT to get my line reactivated to coincide with my NTL disconnection. Today, less than 24 hours later I had NTL on the phone as BT had contatced them regarding porting the number over to then in a month or so.
To cut a long story short, they asked me if I would stay with NTL if they could offer the same package as Talk Talk, free unlimited calls, free overseas calls and free broadband for life for £20.49, that's 50p cheaper than TT. Of course I agreed. Unfortuately they could still only offer me 1Mb BB, but in the 12 months that I've had it it's been absolutely fine and caused me no problems. Also, there is only a 12 month contract compared to the 18 months that TT specify
I'm one happy bunny0
