I used to be with NTL 2M BB, and I only been with them just 12 month.
Anyone know how I can confirm that I got the 10Mbit connection? I tried a few online site speed test most of them said my connection is 4600Kbit, not even half the promised speed.
I am a bit worry as I am ina shared house where the guy next room also has NTL BB connection so...
Hi,
Try this link:

I should mention, right click the 50mb file and save as.
I'm on 10mb and get a download speed of between 70 to 90 kb/s on average. So the 50mb will download in about 10 mins. That should be a good guide for you.0 -

That can't be right, 'cause I'm only on 4mb and I can download 380mb's in about 12 - 13 minutes.0 -

well, technically 10Mbit connection is == 1.2MBytes/sec. so for download a 50M file it should take less than a minute.
I tried a few speed test on the web (google "broadband speed test") the most promising speed I got was around ~4000Kbit which was no way near the promised 10Mbit.
Start to make me think the 10Mbit is more of a marketing gimmit than reality.0 -

I rang Retentions today as my 3 months were up. After 15mins I got through (free phone number). I spoke to this guy who said 10mb is now £34.99 instead of £37.99. I said I've seen cheaper and want to review my price. He said if I have other NTL packages e.g. phone they can do an offer. Just broadband = £34.99. I mentioned about my previous offer i.e. 3 months half price and he said 'Oh fine. There will already be a code so I'll apply that to your account."
I'll check my direct debit next month and see what happens...
A further update:
£34.99 went out of my account - the discount hadn't been applied (had this before). Not happy, so I phoned today. The person I spoke to said there had been some problems with the system - the code was entered before, but hadn't been saved (!!). The change was applied again today and I was told it's worked for certain this time. I'll double check again in a month.0 -
i got 12 months at the 1 MB for 9.99 and also managed to get compansation of 50.00 after having some modem problems. if you dont get anywhere when making a complaint, insist (politely) on talking to the dept manager and point out all the inconveniences you've suffered because of them and the crap service/connection. always make a note of names and which dept you are connected to because NTL is legendary for sending people round in circles on the automated answering system. keep it all logged and complain about the lot to bump up your compensation.0

Hi folks
Just to encourage NTL customers out there to call in, ask for the "Retentions" team and get a better deal by mentioning the rival TalkTalk deal from Carphone Warehouse.
It took me about 30 mins on the phone (freephone to customer services: 0800 052 9403) but well worth it.
I've gone from paying £35 a month for basic phone and 1Meg bband to £20 a month for 10Meg bband, and 24/7 free calls to uk landlines.
Not bad eh? Good luck!

i rung them up today saying i wanted to leave and go to talktalk which would be free. They game me my 2Mb for halfprice for the next 3months so is only £12.50 amonth0
