  • I've been with NTL for broadband and telly for 3 years and never paid their "normal rate." However, at the end of each 12 months they try and put it back up again. But yet again thie year -- and spurred on by the people here -- I rang NTL cutomer retentions armed with my cheapest broadband deal -- Madasafish £11.99 -- and they dropped from £24.99 to £12.50 for a year. They also knocked my telly down to £20.25 -- slightly under the broadly similar SKY deal. I also mentioned that NTL still don't have a SKY+ PVR type box, and that that was another reason I might switch -- they are getting such a device sometime soon though - but as ever with NTL I wouldn't hold your breath!!

So they do want to keep customers and we can get a good deal. Great!

Yeah I never saw that on their website - I guess its true then!! But I bet in the t&cs there is a 'fair usage of 30gig per mth' blah blah. When they name it unlimited, I am sure they are talking about HOURS you can use it hehe sneaky innit?

But I wouldnt worry if your not doing massive downloading. I frequently hit 50 or 60 in a month, for 9mths solid at one point, and not a dicky bird about it. But I did read an article that said late last year and early this year they basically kicked some heavy users off. I got worried but then read more and it was 300-500gig a month users - which is astounding.

    Basically, dont panic.

As for getting a good deal, read thru the thread a little, loads of suggestions in here on how to talk them into giving you a price you want. I havent done anywhere near as well as others here, but I got a small discount I am happy with :D that 6mths free deal is actually pretty darn good tho if its the unlimited service. its like less than 9quid a month! lol.
  • ok ive done it. i phone up and got 10mb broadband, tv family pack, telephone national unlimited for...£30 a month for a year
i was previously paying £25 for everything without the internet. so that phone call made it £5 for 10mb broadband. is that a deal or is that a deal. i kept saying that i wanted to leave and how homechoice where offering great deals.
    many thanks
  • I've been with NTL for about 6 years. Started on 0.5Mb for £24.99, then the speed increased to 0.75Mb and has topped out at 1Mb because that is the limit of the set top box. After reading this forum I checked my bill and noticed that I was still paying £24.99 whereas their web site was offering it for £17.99. So I rang up. I am now paying £17.99 for broadband and they are back dating that to last August. They have also discounted the TV/Phone package so the whole lot now comes to £30/month rather that the previous £48/month. One serious saving for one phone call!
  • Can I just say a big thank you to all the new users who have signed up to post of their success on this and the other Make That Call threads regarding reducing their packages with NTL :j

These posts are so heartening to read for the regulars who take the time out to post their very helpful tips on the Telephone Boards.

Well done to you all and to those who haven't yet achieved the package they want, try again.

    :T :T
  • I, am holding off doing the retention call until NTL announce there price increases, as sky normally put up there package price end February and NTL follow a couple months later and they normally take the opportunity to raise other prices.

As I used to work for NTL retentions many years ago we normally get good retention packages after they have announced the increases in order to try curb customer churn.

BUT………….i,am watching this space just in case some good deals are about and they price fix before the increases would be worth considering ;-)
Tell it as it should be....
  • Well I did the ring up to leave thing in January, got a deal which suited me fine, just got my latest bill which should have shown the new pricing structure, sadly NTL have got it all wrong and are still charging me some of the old prices.
Rang again today to complain and was told the new pricing should have been implemented but something went wrong, as usual NTL guy says someone will ring me back, you guessed it, i'm still waiting.....
  • Hi, as a very new money saver and a long term customer of ntl I decided to switch to BT as a line provider in order to subscribe to cheaper broadband. BT contacted ntl to inform them of the switch, ntl phoned me to ask why? When told that they were too expensive they cut our £24.99 per month for 2MB to £12:49 garunteed for six months and agreed to negotiate again at the end of this time. Thank you Martin and your website I feel empowered!
  • Phoned iup NTL for my customary 6 month review - e.g want to disconnect everything; prices not competitive etc.

I am currently on the three for 33 deal.
I managed to wrangle broadband free for half a year. They have applied a credit for £119, to my account. The lady said phone up in six months to review my prices again:)

Not bad for a 5 min phone call.
