    Hmm.

Well, I just called & laid it on thick about some of the other cheaper providers & she just played dumb & said "okay, I can disconnect your BB from here right now if you want". I was a little surprised by this response & basically wondered if they could do anything by way of a price reduction.

In the end I just got my BB reduced to 12.50 a month for 3 months & she seemed reasonably blase about my declaration to simply call & have the same conversation with them every three months.

The thing I'm unsure about is that my new 2meg BB connection has no download restrictions (although I'm sure some kind of "fair usage" condition applies) whereas the companies I'm quoting the prices of have all sorts of horrendous limits for the cheaper prices.

I'm surprised the NTL telephone people aren't ready with this kind of information.
Elements of the past & future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

Won't put me throught to retentions not even really interested in what i have to say, got an address to make a complaint about being sold a new contract when i was told it was just an upgrade and not being given the full information.

It seems once they've conned you to sign up you aren't as valued a customer as you are when you're threatening to leave

Have a read of this thread which gives links to other threads regarding the deals that NTL customers of TV/telephone/bb have managed to get.

The retentions free phone number is in the first post.

Thanks for that Edinburghlass the number doesn't exist anymore and the number they gave to replace it puts you through to customer services but it was worth a try.

Still no luck they're saying because i just entered into a new contract (even though i wasn't told thats what i was doing) its tough basically

And as far as they customer service fella i spoke to no one has ever got broadband any cheaper than £19.99 a month :confused:

But thanks to everyone who tried to help me out :j

Cheers to this thread and all the comments ;)

called today well informed and got myself 6.50 off my 2mb (24.99) BB from NTL.

I thought Id stick a few warnings on tho. They appear to be twigging to people calling 0800 052 9403. Coz he feigned a survery and asked how I got thru and where I got the number etc, so be ready to blag that part. Luckily I got chatting to him about football and such and managed to still get on good terms....

They dont completely keel over either :D I had to add a 2quid evening and weekend calls package to my bill, but in exchange he gave me a permanent 8.50 reduction on the BB (so he said - soon see on the bill).

So thanks to this forum I've saved 6.50 on bb and tenner off my main tv package - so a BIG thumbs up and cheers!
  • Going to give this a go today, thanks to all the posters with their stories icon12.gif

  • I've only just read this post and I'm on the 24.99 2MB package with NTL. I've just telephoned and said I was changing because I can get Pipex or Madasafish for nearly half the price of what I'm paying with NTL. He didn't offer me any reductions, just said that the 2MB will be going up to 10MB within the next 3-4 months. How do you manage to get reductions, what am I doing wrong?

try again. sometimes you get a duff person at the end ;) also did you call customer services regular number, or the special 'retentions' 0800 052 9403 number and press 2 'wanting to disconnect'??

altho as I said the other day, I am sure they are starting to twig about this forum or that 'something is afoot' so to speak ;)
  • hi ive got tv family pack and telepone unlimited national call for £25 been with ntl for about 8 years. i want to also subscribe totheir internet package, they gave me a pretty good deal 6 months free and the rest for 17:50 a month for the 2mb bradband. the only thing is i download a hell of alot i know there 2mb uuncapped service is going up to a 10mb service capped. so im scarred that if i take up this offer when they move me to the 10mb service theyl star shouting that im going over and try to move me to a higher package. i know i can ask to stick with the 2mb but with adsl2 comming oout and bb speeds going so fast 2mb just wont cut it anymore. anyhelp on how to get the 10mb a month uncapped because if i make a mistake im stuck with it for a year without any negotiation.
    thanks money savers

the 2mb service is not uncapped?? not sure where you got that. there is actually a 30gig limit in place thats never really enforced. unless like some people this year who got cut off, your using like 400gig a month!!! (adsl usually havea fair limit in place like this too).

When ntl have moved to 10mb they will be pricing their plans on 'usage'. Ie the current 2mb 30gig service will be 10mb 30gig, and then 3mb/10mb will be 75gig. There is also a low use plan for people on the low limits currently. but everyone will have 10mb line.

So you either use 30-50gig a mth and you wont get in any trouble.... or you pay for the 10mb line now (maybe they'll give you a deal for that??) thereby getting the 75gig limit (prolly can use 100 without a warning).

Hope that helps. Oh one last point, Im not sure your stuck on a plan fora year. you can upgrade plans usually but not downgrade or terminate in the contract.... maybe somebody else can confirm that?
  • i just read this "Our 1Mb and 2Mb Broadband services offer unlimited usage. This means you can surf the internet for as long as you like and download music or video files as much as you want without worrying about going over your monthly allowance giving you total peace of mind."
does this not mean that there is no capping, i was also told there is no capping from ntl.
i download alot not 400 gig alot :) but alot nonetheless im just scared that theyll tell me to pay more and ill have no choice because im tied in with them. ill probeby go for the 2mb and just wait till they upgrade us. nay help on how to get a beeter deal then the one ive got?
