    Hi
after recieving some advice here about ntl costs ,my main worry was my telephone bills , so i gave them a ring and said i was about to get a bt line put back in as i was concerned about the high bills costs of mobile and land line costs
the bloke said he could hand me over to the retention dept but would like to offer me a deal first, i was on a thing called 123 tarif he changed me to 24 talk unlimited anytime for the same price so as i am new to this i agreed , i can always ring back in a few days time if not happy
have i got a good deal as i also have internet and basic chanels wth ntl , or should i have done better
also can any one tell me the difference between these two tarifs
i am new to this as you can see , but after saving £273 on gas /electric now this saving i find it hard to believe why i did'nt do this a long time ago
car insurance is next on my list
    thank you in advance
    Mike

  • I think what you need to look at Mike is your telephone usage, what sort of call bills have you had, do you use the phone much through the day?

24/7 usage may not be much of a great deal for you whereas a saving on all three elements of your NTL would probably be much better.

If you can let us know how much you pay in total for the three that would help icon7.gif
  • Just called NTL. I was on just the 1MB £17.99/month. No phone, no TV. Told them I intended to leave for Tiscali (same package £14.99). Immediately offered 3 months @ £9.99, then the guy said hold on 'we can do better'. Then came back with £9.99 for 6 months! RESULT!!! £48 extra in the bank!
  • Hi . . having read the threads on NTL I called them today as I have been with them for a few years now. Currently I have 2MB for £24.99 per month and said that there were cheaper deals elsewhere and what could NTL do to reduce my bill. She said most deals are for 1MB and are only for introductory periods and that I had the best deal going currently with NTL and fobbed me off

anyone else on this package that managed to get a reduction?

I was automatically "upgraded" from the old 300 kb, unlimited download service to the standard NTL 1 MB, 3 GB limit service and was paying £17.99. I also have my phone with NTL

I did a bit of research on the Tiscalli site and found I could get 2 MB unlimited download for £16.99, but I needed a BT phone line. So I phoned NTL and said I could get a better broadband deal, but unfortunately it meant I had to swap telephone supplier also and could they please arrage for disconnection. Result - they swapped me to 2 MB, 30 GM download service and for £1 less (£16.99).

NTL are always willing to do deals because they do free installation and so having made a big investment is getting a customer they are will to bend a bit to kept him.

The only thing you need to bear in mind with the "better deal or I go elsewhere" tactic is that you do need to have a better deal in the pipeline, just incase they agree to let you go.
  • I called NTL today, firstly rang the 08000522000 (which i think is customer services) as I had rang up 3 months ago about my 2MB broadband cost. They had originally agreed to half it to 12.50 for 3 months, I checked my statement and I have been charged 24.99 for the 3 months. I explained this to the lady (kelly) who said that I shouldn't have been offered this and that she had never heard of this offer. I explained that I know other people on the deal, to which she said that this is incorrect. I asked her what to do, she said she would honour the original deal and credit the account 37.48 but would not offer me anything else. I said well that puts me in the same position as 3 months ago where I can get a better deal elsewhere, to which she replied 'well thats your choice'. I decided I wouldnt get any further and left it (with my tail slightly between my legs!). I left it half an hour and rang up 08000529403 (Customer Retention - Option 2) and spoke to a great guy there, I explained how she had dismissed me completely and that there were not any deals available. He couldn't believe it, He apologised and left the credit on the account as well as adding a further 6 months for 2MB at 12.50 a month. I thought to myself, this is going well, so I asked about any SKY sports offers (as I wanted to add it to my package - currently got all 3 from NTL). He said that there was no offers but expected one to be released before the World Cup in the summer to attract subscribers and said I should phone back then. I said I wanted it know and added it for the standard price, he then said the best he could do is add a £20 loyalty bonus to my account.

So to conclude - if the first person you speak doesnt pay out gamble on another! I will be ringing in 4-5 months to see what deals I can get for my Sky Sports (which has been paid for by my internet saving).
